They exist, but does anyone actually use them? If you do, what advantage do you perceive?

There is no real advantage the damage output is the same as tech 2s. They are really just novelty items...

The perceived advantage is that they do more than one damage type, so they are more useful against a wider range of targetsà
àbut that's just the perception. In reality, the split damage only means that they are always worse than the correct selection of T2 drones. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

The only use I can see for them is a stop gap while your training for t2 heavies/sentries, they are cheap enough LP wise

The split dmg is a huge nerf. Are they actually any better than t1?

They do have some advantages, more EHP and better tracking
I use faction sentry drones in PVE for this reason
Shield: Armor: Struct: tracking: Curator I: 448 960 1440 .02rs Curator II: 537 1152 1728 .024rs Navy Curator: 1074 2304 1440 .252rs
Not everything comes down to how much damage it does, also integrated drones do multiple damage types, which could be helpful to a ship like a probing ishkur that could encouter different types of NPCs but lacks the drone bay to carry many different types of drones.

the faction ones such as Republic Fleet Bouncer don't do split damage.

I can confirm they complete missions faster than non faction drones in a Rattler using only drone DPS. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

Faction Sentry drones are WELL worth it. They do comparable to tech II damage and tracking, but have greater sheilds/armour. They will last longer. I have a flight of each type. Just dont loose a drone and your ok.

If you don't have Sentry Interfacing 5 then it wouldn't hurt to use faction sentries but the T2 versions are better. They do more DPS than the faction variations and although there is a difference in tracking it's very small and anyway you counteract the tracking yourself by proper positioning, target priority and just general common sense.
If your drones are getting shot you're doing it wrong, never mind the fact that you can instantly scoop them, sentries are very robust and take quit some time to kill you have to be incredibly stupid to let one die so getting better tank on one is pointless.

Is there some sort of player written guide to the exact and proper use of sentry drones? Like, when to use them and when to use my light/medium scouts? At what distance do you launch which sentry?
I would like to study up on this and know what I'm doing.

Faction drones don't do split damage, thats the augmented/intergrated drones.

Try a form of PVE other than missions.... Drones are aggro'd quite often in incursion sites and wormholes.

Nice to see you actually read my post and aren't just being another eve-o tard.
There's one very simple way to get aggro off of your drones, try figure it out.
To the OP treat your sentry drones as if they were battleship guns so while your targets are at a distance and closing try to get the frigates first then cruisers then battleships. Depending on the type of drones you'll have to switch them out at some point, Garde IIs can hit pretty much anything orbiting you except for frigates and any cruisers that come into very close range <15km.

Don't post false statements like "If your drones are getting shot you're doing it wrong", I can read just fine.

Yes, and in all other cases not missions the result is constantly scooping so your drone dps is a paltry fraction of what is stated, assuming they don't get popped between the time you register their being attacked and the time it takes for you to actually scoop them. Don't confuse that with not paying attention.

Yea i have a wing of Federation Navy Ogres on my Rattlesnake for pve, i'll train for T2's eventually, but in the meantime Faction Drones kick T1 drones ass. Only down is the pricetag for new ones if u forget the others in space.

So would it be worth my time to search out some faction drones if I already have Hammerhead II's and Hobgoblin II's?

I somehow knew you'd post here...
train for T2 already you lout!
But as regards to the OP, personally I'd just rather use the T1/T2 variety simply for costs sake. Must be nice to pay 30-45mil per Navy Ogre and not be broke
