Quite a few yeah, problem is you have to be crazy to get that far, and it won't actually give you any benefit |

It's something I have always wanted but the amount of missions needed to grind is somewhat insane.
COSMOS, FW Promotions, Data Collection & Epic Arcs are a great way to gain standing with a little less repetition involved in the grind.

do Fw missions.
It will bomb the opposing faction standings, but you will gain your militia's faction standing ridiculously fast.

I had a character that had 9.99999999 with caldari state and caldari navy and I know my char wasnt the only one.
A true perfect 10 is not possible.
Took me years grinding...I'll probably never do that again.

If I am not mistaken a true 10 is possible also with security status.

I had an indicated +10 to Minmatar and Gallente up till a year ago, but since I started raising my -10 Amarr and Caldari high enough so I can enter their space I have dropped to 7+. I still have the Sisters of Eve faction at +10 along with a half dozen Npc Corporations.
As mentioned above you never achieve a perfect 10, just a 9 and high number of decimal places

Edited by: Kerfira on 25/04/2011 21:43:31 You do not have a perfect 10.0!
You have something like 9.9952, which is then displayed as 10.0.
It is not possible to get a perfect 10.0. Every standing reward is a percentage of the difference between your current standings and 10.0, but the limited accuracy of floating point operations makes it impossible to get to that since all standings increases are <100%.
Say for example that the accuracy was 4 digits after the '.' (it is higher, but just for the example), and say you got up do 9.9999. To get to a pure 10.0, you'd need 0.0001, but you can only get that if you run a mission that increases your standings by either 50+% or 100% (depending on how rounding works). There are no rewards that gives this high a boost for faction standings.
QED. You do not have 10.0 faction standings, nor does anyone else!

Edited by: Franklin Delano Roosevelt on 26/04/2011 20:28:55 Getting a 10.0 is possible. There's a person in our corp that has 10.0 with both Gallente and Minmatar.
edit: Ok, I just read the above post, so yeah, it might not be a perfect 10 but you will still have it show up as 10.

I'm afraid not the first one. I know guys who had faction 10 back in 2008 already and I dont think even they were the first ones. All it takes is few years of consistent missionrunning. However for 2 run faction battleship BPC COSMOS reward you only need 9.98. That is considerably easier to achieve.

Sorry i dont buy this argument.
10.0 is 10.0. No matter what number below 10.0 you choose, i can ALWAYS mission run enough times such that your standing is more then your number.
IE, no matter what you choose below 10.0, for example 9.99999998
I can always mission run enough times such that my standing is 9.99999999999999999 which is more then 9.99999998
In short, it converges to 10.0
When something converges to 10.0, it is basically 10.0 Because its impossible to be anything below 10.0 (which is proven above)

You can never hit perfect ten. The relationship is asymptotic.

I am a perfect ten. Wait until we get to walk in stations and I'll give you a key to my "quarters".

...and to General Constipation here: yes, I ground one of the factions to 10.0 years ago, but I'll tell you it definitely wasn't worth it.

What im saying is, the limit will never be below 10.0 i can easily prove that any number below 10.0 will not be the upper bound.
If it cant be below 10.0, then it must converge to 10.0
Just like 1+0.1^N is converges to 1 when N tends to infinite. Any number above one, i can easily prove that it is not the lower bound

While mathematically you are right, whether this works in Eve is something else.
Two things, 1 time constraints: if your run missions for 100 years and reach 9.99999 whatever number of 9s behind the digits, I can run missions for 101 years and reach a value closer to 10 which isn't 10.
2 which might be more interesting. We're dealing with computers here. Computers store their values in binary. A binary number has fixed number of digits. That means it doesn't support a 9 with 1000 9s behind the point.
So the question is, at some point you will reach the closest possible value to 10 binary and what happens then depends on your standings jump. Will it be enough to take you to 10 ur just not enough and give you a fixed standing which can never increase.

I was 10.0 amarr empire standing for a while. But it didn't really do much for me. I was an outlaw at the time so going out to get my cosmos BPC's was simply not doable. Beyond that the only real benefit of such high standing is you can use any agent with any corp belonging to that faction without any grinding. That ability may or may not be useful to you. But I at least found it somewhat useful. I don't think you have to be crazy to reach that point, I never tried to reach 10.0 standing, it just happened. I got there by very casually collecting it via storyline missions and FW promotions. The only missions I ran were for amarr for about 2 years and so even though I'm a very casual missioner (mostly pvp), it did add up. Thus far you shall read, but no further; for this is my sig. |
