They've been living together for years. If he hasn't bent her over an oak table by now, I would suggest the Pope has him made a Saint.
I guess then an alternate reason for them getting married on Friday then is she's already up-the-duff.

If they hadn't, they wouldn't have asked the limeys to leave, would they? No one asks governments doing a great job to bugger off, do they? Well, except the rednecks, but what do they know? ♥

That's not true at all. You criminals in the US didn't want to pay your taxes - and you still don't, which is why you've got such a whopping national debt - only this time you can't blame the Queen, have a hissy fit and throw a lot of tea into the harbour. :p.
The reason we became so powerful was because we had the strongest navy in the World and the reason we had the strongest navy in the world is because we were the first country to industrialise, hence we were also the richest nation in the World thereafter, right up until the First World War I think. The thing about having an empire is you need to be able to project your strength a long way from home - that's why having the strongest navy is the most important thing (or in the case of the US, having a large number of aircraft carriers and bombers that can fly around the world and cost 2 billion isk each).

In my country we fought a war a couple hundred years ago against the British so I wouldn't have to care about the romances of the Royals, why the hell then is it on every major news channel every other minute?

Am quite curious why people even bother about these 'royal' weddings. Inbred people who inherit money, titels and in some cases, power, for what good? Mostly feel sorry for the poor suckers who don't get a chance to a normal life.
Apart from that, I'll leave the sniping for this thread and they'll live happily ever after. -

Public funding for the event, ú30 million.
Projected value for the UK economy, ú3 billion.

I don't care about the entierty of the Uk economy. Following the same train of thought you can compare UK's economy to the entire worlds and say it is small. Or compare the biggest mansion on Earth to the size of the solar system and say it is samll. Irrelevant comparison.
Point is that thoose ú30 million that can go into say cancer research or other things that is far more important that some random uselss "royalties" marrying. Outdated traditions like this needs to go.
Ahh the old, 'it could go to cancer research' argument. Nicely done.
Build a hosptial, a school or something else for all I care. Just don't waste it by perpetuating some stupid outdated royal traditions that serves no prupouse other then to suck up resources. That was my point, and i used cancer as one example.
Other then that your commnet itself is also a classic idiots discussion tactic :) --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That stupid outdated royal tradition is making the UK a pile of money and is part of our countries identity.

Show me the numbers they make then. And do they really have to be royalty to make it? Could not soe other part of governmet do the same?
As for the image they make? Each to their own, I perfer not to have some ruling monarch part of my nations identity, but unfortunatly I still do :(. Why treat them with some kind of outdated respect that they do not deserve, just because they are born with "royal blood"? Ridiculous. Some traditions should go, and sometime making a new identiy is a good thing. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

tourists would visit whether we had a royal family or not, countries without such outdated institutions are not devoid of a tourist industry. also the 30m/3b ratio looks a little less impressive when you remove the money lost from the economy from most people having the day off and the tax loopholes companies will use to avoid paying tax on any extra revenue made. very little of this will end up back in the public purse.

The royal family cost the UK tax payer ú36.7m last year. They made London ú300 million in tourism alone last year which would not be made if they were not there because people go to see them not some government minister.

I thought the US was supposed to be "the land of the free"? I mean, assuming you've actually given meaning to those words that is, the freedom to enjoy the event in all its splendid ridiculousness, or not, as you please.

I am a Royalist at heart I guess but I was utterly non-plussed by the wedding.
Then I started to watch it and got suckered in... to be honest it looked like a brilliant affair.
I especially loved the Battle of Britain fly past. Sounded ****ing awesome in surround sound.
