I recall reading some post from long ago that made the case that 400 were more ideal than 800 because you would get more cap at a faster rate than using 800. Has anyone found this to be true or do you go with 800? -----------------

Activation time is dependant on your cap booster not your charge, therefore, your choice is whether you want an instant hit of 400 or 800 cap.
As the cap hit is instant, it doesn't matter which you use, you will always get either 400 or 800 cap for each activation of your booster. Bonus of the 400 is you can fit more charges in your booster, with the benefit of you having to reload less.

In a booster where I can only fit one 800 or two 400, I go for the 800, because it gives twice as much cap after a reload. Sure 400 are more efficient in this case, but reloads are killer.
800 + reload + 800 + reload
vs.
400 + 400 + reload + 400 + 400 + reload
Another strategy is to only use one that is big enough to power everything while neuted.

IMO its a judgement call as to clear hold space of ammo or not to fit the extra charges
not much room and expect to need more than a few cycles of boost = smaller charges
when cargo fits tight like on my Domi , I'll run 400's (even 200's when 4's are running low) to keep booster running

800s give you better cap recharge, and are suited well for bursts of high cap usage. They are more suited to being neuted by a lot of short cycle small neuts.
400s give you less cap/second but will help you manage your cap while under a long cycle heavy neut.
Remember that you can fit a navy 400 into a small cap booster, in case you consider a 400 sufficient for your needs. The saved powergrid will help fit more of something else. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

The smallest one that keeps you cap stable or gets you above peak regen rate if you need a quick boost. That way you don't need to waste (for example) an 800 if only a 400 will do at the same time.

Since we are talking medium injectors, why not use navy charges?
One can cram 3 of those puppies into a medium so it becomes: 3x400 + reload + 3x400 + ...
Never again do you need to sacrifice efficiency (much) to avoid over capping!
PS: Small injector can take two Navy 200's or one Navy 400 for all you AF buffs out there

First time i ever considered using a cap booster was on my Rokh. I was advised that 800s were the way to go; now I'm not completely sure.
Also, a question, if I may - how can you tell what size booster charges a booster module can fit? In other words, can a Small Booster use an 800 charge?

Edited by: KrustyKrab on 27/04/2011 20:22:50 each cap booster charge has a volume. 800's are 32m3 if i remember correctly.
each cap booster module has a volume it is capable of holding.
Navy booster charges give the same cap amount but are smaller m3
edit: example - if you have a small T1 booster, you can only fit cap 200's in it, but if you use navy 400's, you can get a single 400 in it before reload Stuff goes here |

Aside from that, though, there's no limitation?

Whatever size you decide to use, stock navy booster charges unless you're in a cheapo throwaway ship. iirc you can fit one or two extra 800s in a Heavy Cap Booster II if you use navy charges (I forget, it's at least one more though). Less time spent reloading with your pants down. |
