[32]
Not my real name.
Azure Skyclad is adopted to remember a brief, violent moment in my people's recent history. A midsummer festival where everyone disrobed, danced, drank and laughed before twilight on midsummer's day. The system's governor wasn't too bothered until the old duffer died and a considerably more hardline successor took his place. The new governor wanted to remind everyone of our "duty to god" and went about tidying shop. Violently in our case.
I will not forget that night, the day the sky burned. The day god created a monster.
The monster needed a name.

Cosmo Cyrano

[33]
On my birth certificate, Cosmoline Isobel Maria Aurora en Cyrano.
Cosmoline, a girl from an old fairytale. Its one of those ones what gets rewritten every so often so its different every time I hear it. I always liked the version we had at school where she had her own castle. Only my granny ever called me Cosmoline, and when i got to around four even my mum told her to bloody well stop it.
Isobel, my mum's name. I like it actually, my Granny always said she got it from the back of a cereal box and we still don't know if she's taking the mickey or not. No clue what it really means, let me know if you have an idea.
Maria Aurora was my dad's idea. I dont know this one either, the Aurora bit is those weird lights in the sky on the poles of planets isn't it? What passes for an etymology where I'm from though, well...one of my uncles got drunk once and told me (as well as a room full of my mates, it was well shameful) that it was some dancer my dad used to know at a pleasure hub somewhere. I suppose she left an impression, but I could have lived without it.
en Cyrano is well old apparently, the name comes from some place on Intaki where we were all from. Not that any of us went there for a couple of centuries, but I saw pictures once. It might be worth looking into I reckon, to see if I got any second, third, forth, or fifth cousins running around down there.

Orphan World
|
Posted - 2011.05.04 18:27:00 -
[34]
An orphan world is a planet that has been slung from the warmth and gravitational pull of its parent star, to drift endlessly through a cold, dark universe. I took this name because the names I had before were not mine own. I had a name in the Mandate, but it was a slave name. I had another name in the Tribe, but I found it to be nought but a label. After my time with the Society, I took my own name, one to symbolize both solitude, freedom, and the cold of the infinite space I regard.

Lorna is my given name. Doone was a nickname my grandfather gave me. Although I had no idea what it meant, he always used it affectionately. However, when I proudly told him what my callsign was, he collapsed into tears of laughter. Doone, apparently, was a particularly obstreperous goat he used to keep on his smallholding --------------------------------------------------------------- "Meantime, all around me is violence and robbery, coarse delight and savage pain, reckless joke and hopeless death." |

Elodin comes from old amarian word meaning lively. Vintaes is our house name granted to my great great grand father by emperor him self after knighting him for zealous valor and courage in battle during early ammarian race for the stars. Vintaes is a really old abrivation from the word victorious.
So lively AND victorious i am and shall be under service for the ammarian empire.

Manwe is the name given at the time of my marking. It is a name that hearkens back to a time before the discovery of the gate. It is from the legions of ancient literature. Iluvitar, when he created all things made lesser being through whom he sang the notes of his essence. Manwe was second of the greatest of these beings. The greatest whose name we will not speak turned to evil when he made his own dissonant music against the will of Iluvatar. Manwe becoame the orderer of the sky and leader of all those who sought the good of iluvitar and to oppose evil. It was this name I was given. Todako was a name given to me by my Cladari master. The Amarrian slave holder in whose household I went when my world was overcome sold me illegally to a Caldari corporate minion by the name of Todako. At a great personal cost I won my freedom. When I escaped to Gallente space, it was determined that I could be cloned and become a capsuleer. I decided at that time keep Todako to remind me that freedom is not free. I also had the scars of my travail programed into my cloning so that I would carry them with for all time. I am Manwe Todako

Edited by: Mekhana on 06/06/2011 09:06:25 A few years ago I received orders from the navy to intercept a slave trader crossing Federation space in Sinq Laison. After that was dealt with, we rescued the captives and released them. Among them there was an old Sebiestor man that insisted to speak with me personally. I eventually decided to meet him but since I remained anonymous he kept insisting on calling me 'mekhana'.
A rough translation of that in my language would be words like freer, rescuer, deliverer. I have decided since then to take that as my alias and noticed there are causes worth fighting for outside the Federation as well.

How I got my name? I was born on a ship, so my name is not exactly Matari. I think my folks were just being creative in what they wanted to call me. It is what I have been called for a long time, throughout many systems and galaxies. ----

Hm, interesting thread of discussion here...
As most of you that know me have probably guessed, "Raze" is not my given name.
However, I took the name "Raze" after a point in my history where I proverbially burned down the foundations of my upbringing and set my future on fire.
Thankfully ashes are great fertilizer and new life springs up from them, as it has for me, which is fitting given that my given name is Lazarus.

[45]
My father was a blood-and-iron Civire mercenary who married a Matari girl living in Rancer. When she became pregnant with me, he suspended his career as a merc and the two stowed away onboard a blockade runner bound for Caldari space, my father being convinced that Rancer was no place for a child. At one point, the blockade runner stopped in Jita; my parents used the opportunity to disembark and secure a flight to the Otela system, where they settled down.
My father eventually fell to his old vices and signed on with the Guristas, whom he fought with for years before eventually being killed in a CONCORD raid.
Adrian is a modernized form of my given name, Aedrijan, which comes from an antiquated and archaic dialect of Matari spoken by my mother's clan.

Edited by: Andro Ryan on 09/06/2011 01:08:27 I was born to a Siebestor family with the name of Lopt Farbauti. Lopt being the name of a minor air-god in some panthon or other, Farbauti clearly being my clan name. I then quite naturally changed it in my youth when I discovered that my fellow clansmen had traded in despotism for lunacy, by way of the confiscation of my property as "clan land". My first self-given name in a Caldari station was Aleksai Zinovyevna Rosenbaum, I thought it sounded suitably noble and sophisticated. When I entered the corporate world I signed my first contract as Andro Ryan.

Biko is an uncommon family name on my homeworld, Schoorasana IV. It's origin and meaning are unknown, at least to me.
ChT is a name with very old origins, but it is a very uncommon name on my homeworld. It has it's roots in the word 'che' which has several meanings and origins, but the most common use is 'friend' in a vocative sense. Others common uses are 'man' (Also vocative, very close to 'friend' as in "Man, that is some good beer.") and 'I'. 'Man' (not vocative) is also the oldest known meaning of the word.

[49]
I was born on Tolle V, but I grew up aboard a deep space colony in the Aydoteaux system. Although I have spent most of my life in the Gallente Federation, our family originated from the Amarr Empire, which is reflected in the etymology of my name.
My first name means "iron" in an ancient language, and it is commonly given for children when the parents wish them to become leaders and visionaries.
The family name is actually composed of two words - "theory", which means the knowledge revealed by God, and "abies" which is a tree in an ancient language. So a modern translation for it would be "the tree of knowledge."

Lord Wamphyri
Amarr Starside Lost
|
Posted - 2011.06.09 23:15:00 -
[50]
I was born, many centuries ago, as a human on a world in a parallel dimension. My human name is long forgotten. I became host to a vampiric symbiote in my 34th year, transforming my human side into a member of the Vampire super race, the Wamphyri.
Upon my ascension I became allied with other Lords and Ladies of the Wamphyri race, and joined the monthly culls of the human population. And my deeds were both revered and reviled! I basked in the blood of my victims, and quickly rose as the most feared of my race.
This gave my former allies much cause for concern, especially as I was decimating the human population at an alarming rate, so my 'fellows' laced my meal with a poison that incapacitated me for a short while. Thus disarmed, I was bound and thrust through a naturally occuring portal leading to this dimension.
Upon coming to my senses and realising that the portal was a one way trip only, I took the name of my race as my own name, such was my pride. I became the Lord Wamphyri, and set about exploring this new galaxy in hopes of finding another portal to lead me back to my world, my home.
Starside was lost to me, but it shall not forever be so.

I'm told that my given name is Achuran in origin -- my mother's more distant relatives were from the Saisio system -- and that the root means 'unification' or 'cooperation.' My family name is a not-uncommon Deteis family name and I'll be honest when I say I'm not too sure what it means.

Since I see so many have shared I believe its time for me to share also.
I was told my first name Caviar, *looking at the camera... yes I've heard all the fish jokes already* as I was saying Caviar is a variation of word Cavalier.
Then there is my family name Liberta which is from an old word meaning Liberty or Freedom.
When my family came to the Federation they knew they had become part of something much larger than themselves and adopted the family name Liberta as a way to express that feeling and idea they were able to be part of.
Nothing is more certain than the indispensable necessity of government, and it is equally undeniable, that whenever and however it is instituted, the people must cede to it some of their natural right |
