Which is what a lot of the mission runners think should happen, are you guys going to shoot them? lol
I for one, would like to see this happen.
It will be pretty funny.

Ninjas can flag themselves easily by stealing loot if they want to. Also, in b4 not now, not later, not ever.

Edited by: Renarla on 30/04/2011 19:15:27 With all of the recent salvager whines, I've been scanning out missions and stealing loot and salvaging trying to provoke the missioners into shooting... They don't. So why do they want to flag ninjas again? :/

Why do you care if they are flagged or not if they don't shoot?
Seriously - I do see a difference but you may not and I personally like the idea of flagging them. Many won't fight back. Some will. Right now, they can't due to "concord" protections.
IMO - the difference is the same as with some of your ninja thieving groups: They go in, steal something, get shot at and 5 buddies come in to kill the mission runner. Or they warp out and get a bigger ship, come in and kill the mission runner.
Except, sometimes, they get popped for it. Sometimes the runner has more friends around than they do and they find they are popped for stealing.
Risk is the difference. Chance for PvP due to your actions having consequences.
With ninja salvaging, that doesn't exist. It's why I favor flagging them. The more "legal" opportunities for a PvE player to shoot in what they see as a potential win PvP situation - the better the game gets.
Sure, you'll have plenty that don't do it but you also will have some that will and that means more PvP combat and less "no risk" griefing.

CCP should do one of the 2 things to make the mechanics consistent;
Remove the flag when a player shoots wreckage
OR
Have a ninja turn red for taking it.
Since the former is considered an exploit, remove it IMHO. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.

If you are looking for a kill mail then go and get the salvage tagged for looting as with looting the cans.
Otherwise, do what I do and just abandon the blasted things and go on with your game life.
But the choice is yours and if you have the 'friends' around to help pop the guy that is looting your salvage then go for it, otherwise just move along. *********************************

I've been PvE only since returning to EvE a couple months ago. I've only had someone try to ninja salvage me once. I started blowing up wrecks...and he/she left.
I've ninja salvaged on more than one occasion in my prober/salvage boat Cormorant [named her H.M.S. "Violator"]. Sometimes they blow up wrecks and I leave. Sometimes they shoot at me...so I go get my Drake and come back. Every once in a while, they cry in local...mmmmm delicious tears.

Seriously do you understand at all how hisec agression mechanics work?! If a mission runner steals from you they will go red, you can shoot them, this doesn't include salvage, just if they take items out of your wrecks/cans. YOUR corp can aid you in shooting the ninja looter, i.e if they are red to you then they're red to your corp (but NOT your alliance). The ninja looter will NOT be able to shoot at you unless you aggress them, and they will only be able to shoot those that aggress them. I.e you see them go red and call in the help of a corpmate (player corporations only), then your corpmate shoots the ninja looter, the ninja looter can shoot back at them but not at you, unless you decide to get in on the action and shoot said ninja, also if you decide to shoot a mission runner solo, then find you are overwhelmed by they're dps but had a corpmate able to give shield/armor logistics then as soon as your corpmate starts to remote rep your ship then the ninja looter can shoot at them, although if done properly said logistics ship would move out to max range before putting reps on you.
I hope this clears things up.
In summary if a ninja looter goes red to you, feel free to shoot them because they can't get backup (except for logistics), i recommend getting a corpmate to come help you if you can as well, its nice to share killmails :)

Yes I understand the mechanics but I don't think you read my reply correctly. Read it again. I put in bold the relevant portion of what I was replying to.
If they were stealing loot and not getting shot at, then why should they care if salvaging flagged the same way as looting?
I'm for flagging salvagers as well as loot thieves. Risk added with more chances for PvP in highsec -and- the ability to say "shut the hell up" to those who won't shoot at thieves. Right now they can't shoot salvagers without sec status hits and losing their ship to concord and a billion plus mission boat to kill a 60 mill salvage ship... Not a good idea.

Confirming how awesome this would be. The situation now requires far too much work on our behalf to "turn red" and we certainly want to give mission runners every opportunity to blow up our Vigils. _____________________________________ Join our public channel "Ninja Dojo" Recruiting is now: OPEN http://ninjaextravaganza.wordpress.com/Ninja Extravaganza, Strategies for Ninja Salvagers[ |

I am not sure what the big deal about the Noctis is. Some of my best salvaging runs have been in cheap frigates, and the rest have been in destroyers. I can do it nearly as fast as I can in a Noctis and at about 2% of the risk in ship value. In fact the absolute best luck I have had was in a Heron. Salvaged a Strategic Cruiser a couple km off a gate and GTFO just as Mr. Pirate returned in his salvage boat and his friend started to lock me...
Don't think Noctis would have been very helpful there.

ORE Industrial Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Tractor Beam and Salvager cycle time. While the tractor time really doesn't help much, the faster salvager cycle time can make a difference. It's a give and take though. Bigger sig and price tag for faster slavagers, or easier to GTFO for a fraction of a percent of the price but slightly slower salvagers. Personally, I like the Noctis for quick cleanup of missions/anoms that the wrecks are mine/my corps and a dessie/frig for yellows...

I bought a noctis on my second months of play.
It payed by itself by mopping up the bigger (dispersed) fields of wreckage in seconds.

I Could care less about the ninja salvagers, it's the mission specific items that I'm more concerned about. I personally feel that other players shouldn't be able to loot from these wrecks.

Unfortunately for you, this is an intended game mechanic, i.e. CCP wants it to work exactly the way it does.

Since I don't (generally, unless I'm really bored ) salvage/loot, if someone warps in and starts salvaging I abandon all the wrecks so they can take the loot too, if they want.
