Ok, so here's some 100% pure, grade A speculation:
I believe that the reason why we do not have a full iteration of Incarna in EVE yet is because of the launch of WoD. I think that to succeed with an MMO you need something unique, something that your competitors don't have to draw in the bigger audience. Well, at launch time, if WoD and EVE looks too much alike, there won't be as big of an attraction to WoD. So, here's my hypothesis, I believe that we will never see "Walking in stations" on a larger scale until after WoD has been released and either received with enough attention to stand on its own feet, OR if it fails.

Posting to confirm that if an MMO features walking with realistic looking avatars it will fail, because other games before it also had realistic looking avatars. Looking realistic is totally enough to differentiate your game from others and relying on it will definitely not lead to your game dying a horrible death soon after launch.

Meh, WoD will succeed no matter what is in EVE. Different player base. I'd play WoD for about a half minute to kick the tires but otherwise you can keep your Twilight/Interview with the Vampire/Dylan Dog/True Blood game. I always hated those live action role players of the Masquerade. Now they'll be in a video game! Doubt the two communities will have a whole lot of crossover beyond a few months.

You raise an interesting and valid point when it comes to the video game industry and unique.
As far as not releasing Incarna due to World of Darkness lets look a these facts: The new character creator is already out and is the first step into full blown Incarna. Captain's Quarters are coming very soon and they just the next part of Incarna with more to come. As for World of Darkness... well, there are no such things as vampires .

My 2 isk:
If WOD is not very polished before release, it's going to fail hard, and polish is demonstrably not one of CCP's strong points as a MMO developer. What to do? If CCP were smart they'd make us suffer through at least a year of half-baked "Incarna" patches while they try to get it right before exposing their backside with a weak-sauce WOD release.
EVE players payers are somewhat captive, and already accustomed to shelling out cash for the privilege of beta testing unpolished content. This is a big contrast from our short attention span WOW and Second-Life pre-pubescent counterparts. So, I think we'll be walking about in stations before WOD gets an open beta.
The whole popular vampire/undead shtick we are experiencing could also wear off anytime as CCP is well aware, and that pressure could certainly reshuffle priorities and polish making CCP take a gamble on shipping a premature WOD release.
/long suffering from vampire fatigue.
The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the ho's and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' and I'll look down, and whisper 'no.' |

Indeed, but CCP has an increasing tendency of advertising game play in their marketing that is not possible in-game.
Smarter economically to actually deliver most of what gets hawked to the masses in an initial release, especially if you have a cash cow (EVE) already footing the bills, and sheep (EVE subscribers) willing to graze on content destined for other pastures.

CCP doesn't do "polished" very well. Or at all. They do "ooh, shiny" very well, but the shiny is so only from afar, cause once you log into their game and find the bugs, the lack of polish takes the shiny away.
If they could get money from just periodically releasing videos, that would be peachy.

It's been going strong for some 20 years now, so I don't think they're in that much hurryà

You do realize that vampires have been popular for far longer than Twilight and Sparkles popped on the scene? Or have you been living under a rock so long you failed to notice that?
Vampires and the undead will remain popular long after Sparkles and friends fade into memory. The fangirls too will pass. The fans of Twilight wouldn't like WOD anyways since it isn't full of lovely flowers, magic powers and emo vampires; it'd be far to gritty for them.

Well, duh. And I wasn't talking about twilight specifically, but it will help serve to make my point.
In terms of popularity, I was referring to the recent explosion of undead entertainment options that have appeared in the last couple years. The undead will always no doubt be a popular genre to some extent, but it will not maintain its present high-water mark of popularity forever. Something new and weird and shiny always comes along that isn't just elves, dungeons and sorcery.
In marketing a common saying is: "Shoot the Bear when the Bear is there". Undead (the Bear) are very popular now, thus they provide a target-rich opportunity to be exploited. When this popularity falls back to background levels, the Bear is no longer considered to be there, i.e. less targets.
Dinosaurs, the Maffia, and sharks with laser beams are probably due to be trending again soon, but ALIENS should probably be more on CCP's radar, ALIENS are doubleplusgood everywhere right now, and I'm not talking about documentationally challenged earthlings.

For those who aren't paying attention, WOD is based on IP CCP acquired from White Wolf, from the pen and paper games they put out in the 90's....it's not some bandwagon hitch off of Twilight or something.

Not for us Mac users. You dock, see one frame of the CQ, then a black screen (bug reported).
When will I see it, on any server?

I think I can speak for CCP when I say that I highly doubt it's going to look anything like Twilight. CCP is an evil-minded company who relishes in the online suffering of its player base through a virtually zero-rule online space game in which you can kill, steal, and pillage whomever you choose. Not only that, it's encouraged.
CCP doesn't cater to whiners, even when they may have a point. I don't see them doing a 180 and marketing a game to tweens who wear "I'm on the gay-ass werewolf team" or "I'm on the gayer-ass vampire team" t-shirts.
I'm all about the gay-ass Gallente shirts, though.

They should do a hardcore MMO using the WoD/WiS back end, based off the idea behind the now canceled TV series Caprica. In that series that had a sort of virtual reality game in which if you died in the game, you were out of the game for good.
Would be pretty cool to run a MMO like that, and have it restart every 30 days, then give people various goals & targets with-in the game. Would bring a different approach to PVP if you were out of the game til the next restart if you died.
Granted it wouldn't be very popular with the people whom died easily.

I had a look at it on the the server and all seem'd okay. The biggest issues on getting on the server (for me, a w7 user) is that the patches (both test servers) overwrite my shortcuts for eve and I have to re-make those every time.
Duality patch also doesnt patch the client to log into duality, instead it's wired for sisi. Once you log in with the /server flag for the first time it saves your choice, but I know some people who dont get that in-depth.
It looka okay to be honest, the UI will need a LOT of work (as in time) but the motor behind it all looks like it'll work now.
It's not out because it's just not ready, I don't think there's any sneaky plans to tie it's release date with other games, but I am sure they would like to lauch before some other games coming to market ;)...
Atmospheric flight was demo'd to us and we hear nothing of it anymore, For all we know, some of the walking in stations plans could get quietly shelved too.
I think walking in stations is going to be a wise move, if they can get it going pretty good and it runs on seperate nodes to the flight universe, then no extra server congestion but more player rewards.
Time will tell, until it's in a full TQ build then you cant be 100% sure they will drop it in. ----------- Never Forget the joy of finding a main to link to a scammer alt. N-y-p-h-u-r ! ! |

atmospheric flight was a joke...literally....CCP never had any real intentions of actually making it
i use Win 7 64-bit and ive never had the short cut override problem uve spoke of since i got this thing
maybe try emaking ur own shortcut instead of relying on the one generated by the installer?

I personally play very few games apart from EVE. Loved it ever since I started some 5.5 years ago. I am also very much looking forward to this vampire game from ccp, I have always enjoyed supernatural stuff that if you didn't know better could actually be real.
However, most RL people I know that play games don't have a taste for MMOs. They like a log on, shoot stuff, log off, get back to real life stuff kinda gameplay. However, they all keep asking me "when is Dust coming out?".
They like the stories about the politics in eve but don't care to spend the time training etc to "get into" the eve world. But they sure would like to get into the pew pew of it thinking they might be making a difference in the "eve world".
So when is Dust coming out?
