Hi, I feel rather silly about this. In my haste to get into the game I just typed anything as my character name (Stuart85 - my real name and birth date) expecting that I would be able to change it later. Now I seem to be stuck with it. Is there anyway I can change it without creating a new character?

would be nice if newbies got to change there name once or twice in the first month of service..

Thanks anyway Lek, I was thinking I was stuck with it. :( Been playing for a week, but i've done so much I don't want to restart, ah well boring 'ol Stuart85 it is then.
*Edit god damn it posted under my even worse 'newbie character creation accident' name.

noooo, change it now...a week is easy to make up for. a year playing with a character you don't like is lame. In the long run a week is nothing

Change it now and you wount regret it later. Seriously I had no problem throw away 2 week old char When I was new, since I wanted new name and better attributes for combat oriented skills (had too much charm).

You could try to create a petition for it ingame and ask one of the GMs to change it for you, but I doubt if you will have success. GMs generally only change character names if they break the character naming rules (ie. are offensive in nature and/or against good taste).
A name change for a character has significant impacts for the roleplaying aspects of the game (think - a character's personal history in EVE is associated with their name), and this could be abused by scammers etc.
In short, if your character is new, you might as well just put the current one in the biomass queue and create a new character with a name you are happy with. Better to do it now, since you probably don't hav all that many skills trained up and won't be set back by much.

Heh, thanks for the replies guys. I might try a petition, but if that doesn't work then I'll just have to stick with it. I've found a good corp, and I'm just about to get my first cruiser, so I can't be bothered starting all over again, feels like I've done so much to get to where I am! (Even though I'm aware that on the grand scale of Eve I've actually done very little  )
