My brother got a Megathron a few weeks ago. We both had to work together to afford to buy him one. Anyway, I told him that I had read on he boards that the more warp core stabilizers the better. Well he only had one on his ship and he got blown up. Its ok, he had insurance.
My question though is how mnay warp core stabilizers do you need to be immune to warp scrambling/jamming? How exactly does the system work with this?

a 7.5k scrambler scrambles for 2 points, so you'd need 2 WCS to counter it a 20k scrambler does 1 point, so you'd need 1 WCS to counter one of those
did he get killed by NPC rats? if so you are better off with a decent tanking setup (Repairers and Hardners) to tank the damage as you kill the rats

Its pretty simple.
A ship has +1 warp strengh. If it get scramblet by a -1 scrambler, it reaches 0 and cant warp. If you have a warpcore stab on the ship will get an additional +1 warp strengh, thus needing to be scrambled by -2, and so on and so forth _____________

It really depends on where you are, and who you are up against.
If your opponent really wants to lock you down, there is not much you can do about it if you are up against a wellorganized group.
When I get that occasional paranoia, I fit as many as I have low-slots in my ship. For travelling that is. In combat I fight to win, so I dont fit WCS :) (mostly :P ) --------------------------------------------- When you have to kill a man, it takes nothing to be polite |

Aye, if you take a look at EVE-i's Object DB..
The Warp Core Stabilisers are here - note the Warp Scramble Strength column with it's minus figures.
Now note the Warp Scramblers here, taking note of the same column. The positive/negative numbers on each page cancel each other out appropriately, so for example, if they used Warp Scrambler I on you (Strength 2), but you had a Warp Core Stabiliser I equipped (Strength -1), they could still scramble you 'cos minus one from their score is still higher than zero.
Hope that makes sense :)

No amount of WCS will save you from a mobile warp disrupter - you have to get out of it's sphere first.

As the others pretty much said but I'll add that WCS are really just for travelling. They get you out of a sticky situation that you are temporarily unable to survive due to circumstances beyond your control (you have mwd and nanos fitted so can't afford any weaponry or defenses). Apart from travelling there really is no other time that you should encounter combat that you are not set up for. If you do then your setup is wrong and you probably shouldn't have flown your ship into that situation.
Put another way:A BS kitted out for a particular activity (mining or rat hunting or agent missions) should not have wcs fitted. It should be able to deal with the situation using weaponry or defense in conjunction with the pilot's skills.
This sounds like someone getting their first bs having trained up the bare minimum of skills and then getting their backsides handed to them when they went into combat. If you only have the minimum skills to fly the bs (ie;just the Spaceship Command skill) then you shouldn't do anything with your bs except mine in 0.9 or higher.
Wait until you have the rest of skills up to a decent level first. -- (Battle hardened miner)
