I'm very new to Eve (started just a few days ago) and so far I'm having great fun. I liked the idea of having a Mining Drone to help me out, so trained the necessary skills and bought one; however, when I tell the drone to mine it doesn't move out of its 'Idle' state. What I do is this: Lock target on an asteroid Launch my mining drone Right click on the drone in the done list, and select Mine (I've also tried selecting Mine Repeatedly) ... and it does nothing
I wondered if it was something to do with the distance I was from the asteroid, so I have tried this procedure everywhere from 10km away to just 100m away, and still no joy. I've also tried doing it while my own mining laser is active, and also when it's not active, just in case it was interferring with the drone.
I can't believe this is working as intended, so can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong, please?
Thanks for your help!

Target an asteroid then select the drone and set it to mine repeadetly. Let the drone do it solo to see if it brings ores in.
Because 1 miningdrone brings in very little you might haven't seen it bring in anything.
Best to use your mininglasers for the rocks furthest out you can mine from and get close to an asteroid where you put your drones on. This decreases travel range for the drones and is the most time effective way to use them.
If the drone still doesn't bring anything in then check in helpchannel if there is something you might have missed in miningdrone use. If not then petition.
Good luck out there.

The level of your drone skills will determine how far away your drones can operate. You might be too far away from the rock for them to reach it and still be under your control....in which case they will ignore your command and remain idle.
To start off, get within 5k of the rock and try it then. The skill Scout Drone Operation and what level it's at determines the range at which you can control drones.....your base distance is 5k, and goes up 5k for every level trained (ie., level 2 training enables you to control drones of all types out to 10k, level 3 to 15k and so forth).
If that doesn't work, and your drones still sit idle after repeated attempts, petition it.

Very helpful answers from both of you - thanks!
I don't have the Scout Drone Operation skill at all, just the Mining Drone one; it sounds a bit odd that they made the Scout Drone one affect the distance at which you can command Mining Drones, but I shall train the skill and hope for the best.
Thanks again!

and work my way in
good tactic if you want the m-drones to work effectily
