Hi. Since the 1.4.1 patch, both of my clients seem to lose or have their settings cleared, on an almost daily basis. I'm using WinXP SP3, and before this patch, never had this happen before. A few things I've noted:
1. Doesn't necessarily happen on disconnect, but can happen while sitting idle in station.
2. Characteristics include:
A. Loss (closure) of player made chat channels. B. Loss of Drone Box Folders C. Loss of Bookmark folders. D. All "Are you sure?" questions reset to ask. E. Aura visits (Tutorial starts itself) F. Window positions and colour schemes are NOT lost. G. I do not get disconnected, although this CAN happen (not usually) on a disconnect. H. Any hotkey changes I've made get reset to default, as well as "autotarget back", and "show tactical crosshairs". I don't have to see the introduction movie again, though.
What I've tried so far:
1. Ran Repair .exe on both installations (separate drives, separate monitors, windowed mode). No problems found.
2. Cleared cache and restarted clients.
3. Used the /end /LUA:off on both client shortcuts. This seems to work IF I log off with my existing settings intact (IE, I get them back next time I log in.)
4. Set max permissions for the CCP Folder in C:\ Docs & Settings\ All Users\ Application Data.
5. Ran memtest for 10 hours while I was sleeping, checked voltages in bios to everything. Ran CHKDSK.Ran SFC. All good. No overclocking. (GTX 550 Ti 1 GB video)
6. Asked for, and recieved, remote assistance from an IT helpdesk professional (another Eve player). After spending an hour going through my system (many thanks!) trying to find out why this was occurring, his advice was to rename the Settings Folder in C:\ Docs & Settings\Myusername\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\Eve so that the client would build a new one. This worked........for 2 days. Now the problem is back.
Obviously, All my settings were lost when I did this, and I redid them all. And as I sat here idle, in station, looking at the market.........it happened again. And I'm back to square 1.
I've read through quite a few threads here from the past, and have tried all the fixes I found. I'd rather be doing something else than resetting all my settings every day or so, as I have last week. Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance, if you can.
Nuke it from orbit..........just to be sure. |
