Ok shame on me first, I was foolish enough to give them 100m ISK for the so called "recruiting security deposit." I thought they won't scam for they have 2600 corp members and the recruiting is really formal. I was WRONG. The guy who contacted me has block me.
Yes, I was foolish to give them ISK without looking at this forum first.I don't deserve my 100M ISK back, but I just wanna let ppl know don't do that again if they (or others doing the same thing) recruits you.
GoonWaffe is such a big corp, and I don't think that 100M ISK really matters to you. How many tier 3 battleship you're losing everyday if you're really doing PVP? You just don't let my 100M ISK (which is even cheaper than a tier 3 BS) go......what you're doing is really disgusting!

I see this as a great way for GoonWaffe to filter out suckers and people who don't want to do research.
Do you want a bunch of easily persuaded people in your corp?
Do you want a bunch of people who won't do any research in your corp?
The OP is probably right, the 100mil is chump change. However, this is a really good filtering technique for removing those who are not going to be a good fit in the corporation.

1 goon leader is on the csm so nothing going to happen to them
2 they do this to everyone they recuit, went to join goon on an alt and they wanted to "transport" everything i had ahead of time while i waited to get into 0.0 due to them being in a war dec, ofcourse i questioned it on another alt that was in the NC and they deny that none of their members are capable of such acts and that if any one did they would be blacklisted lol

I would be interested to see the demographics of those who get scammed, namely age, level of education, country of birth and level of exposure to the real world to see if there are any emerging patterns as to where stupidity originates from.

What I was hinting at though is i.e. for instance I would be inclined to think that a 20 year old from Kansas would be more susceptible to a scam than say a 20 year old from Auchtermuchty.
Just saying.
Thus if peeps put there age and location when posting about being scammed it would potentially allow for the identification of "hotspots" demographically where those residing within that region / country are more "vulnerable" to a scam.

I had a similar situation happen to me. Though I saw that it was a scam, and calling them out on it they simply denied it and closed chat. I don't see why you would want to join goons there are allied corps to them you could easily get into. Good luck either way.

Goons are like that. today they killed my hulk in high sec. they joined my corp and shot me and another member. they are just griefers who use game mechanics to legally make people get angry and want to quit the game. they originated in somethingawful.com which is a site full of game griefers. unfortunately the leader is the chairman of CSM so we can't really do much about them or change the mechanics that they do these things from.

As a recruiter, the scammers make my job quite difficult. I have successfully recruited dozens of players with no hassle. However, at times, an issue arises when they apply to join the corp. Sometimes the personnel directors are being jerks, sometimes they miss a step, and sometimes someone makes an honest mistake. However, they seem to jump to conclusions far too fast and assume they've been scammed, and instead of bearing with me while I sort out the problem, they just block me. Oh well.

Serious, Goonswarm recruitment scam is so old, i never knew different, hell, it's so known they warn you for it in the rookie help channel, and all other helpchannels & recruitment channels after :o Even asking merely in local would yield this intel. While I don't approve of scamming, this is one scam only the most gullible & lazy fall for. And so, if you fall for it, you deserve it.
Eve is a cold & harsh universe, be on your toes if you want to survive! I'm a kind & helpful person, but far from gullible, and will not hestitate to either decline, run away or open fire if you are not honest in your intentions.

Goons are a well know group of griefers and scammers. Obviously if you where trying to join them you want to be one or both of those. You deserved what you got.
Every scam starts with the victim hoping to scam someone, usually the scammer. Stop trying to scam people and you won't get scammed.

People still get scammed out of the full rate of 500m. Not that I would know or anything.
Also Goonwaffe is not "invite only". We do have recruitment requirements (which are publicly viewable on our wiki) that are there to prove you're not 1. a j4g and 2. That you don't have a Xenuria level personality disorder

We also have a public ingame channel that states "if you paid ISK to join you were scammed" in big, red letters in the MOTD. Everywhere the corp is involved directly it says "don't pay money to get in". And still people are happy to pay "recruitment fees". I consider that a kind of idiot tax.

What's funny is how people fall for it. Some fanboy pm'd me and said he wanted to be a pirate, I said id teach him for a fee. 150Mil was my 1st offer but I lowered it to 75 mil. Then I told him to contract all his ships so I could haul it, again he obliged I was amazed ay such stupidity I closed Convo then the tears started flowing
it ended with a "I trusted you" and I said well atleast I taught you something...
Don't trust pirates. I did this 1morr fome for a total of 550 mil.

The fact that this is probably the most documented scam in EVE makes the OP tears even sweeter.
There's a Wiki about it, it's on their recruitment website, and last time I checked it was in their corp/allinace info.
If you're *still* mentally deficient enough to get scammed, you should probably go back to WoW and let Blizzard hold your hand.

I almost felt for this, in the beginning everything sounded okay , till they asked for 500m on a site, which I did not have. hey I just started to Play EVE after 2 + year. I said I don't have assets or ISK for it. Then a guy that had been a member for 1 day which was in same channel "thunderpub" convo me and said he could "lend" me 500m if I contracted some ships i had which was worth not more than maybe 200m. It was here I figure this was a Scam. So yes, they still continue. Name for the guy was ROCKYID btw.
Way to go CCP. Only care of $$$. If you want to keep your players, try at least to clean up this type of scams.

Forgot to mention the details of what went down but if u knew it took me all day to move my ships and stuff lost like 30mil in process than had to drop other corp apps because i was gonna get in this 1 so it goes far beyond just getting scam for 200m this person made me waste and entire day of my life just moving ships and still took 200m what balls i really hope u mother****ers would be brave enough to meet me in real life its not even about the stupid 200m when anyone can buy 370m for 8$ its about the action this dude made. I made over 160 jumps moving my ships and stuff ok so yea... and half of them wer ein my pod...

Well I don't blame him for it, but perhaps one day they scam someone that takes this to seriously and end up like Anders Brevik #2 at the fan-fest. Since there ARE sick people in this world it wouldn't surprise me if it really happened.

About this scam, never heard about this type back in 2008, but it's a good one :)
There have been scams like this dating back to release of the game, it was actually one of the premises of the game, they want us to scam eachother, thats the way the game is designed.

I think I know where this conversation comes from. It looks like you don't belong in this place. It's a little hard for you, I understand that, but really, we can't have people threatening to get physical every time they get a bit upset over losing loose change.
You have had the privilege of being taught a lesson in EVE for so little money it barely registers.
You are right though, you don't have to take this, nobody can force you to stand this kind abuse. What you really want is to find a more comfortable environment that better suits your needs. Don't worry about New Eden. Few people really find it, it's not the best place for everyone. Don't expose yourself to this kind of grief while you so much fun somewhere else.

Don't worry folks, EvE News 24 says it didn't happen, and since we all know how reliable a news source they are, looks like all us on those killmails are innocent. I for one, am appalled my good name is bismirched by these events which apparently didn't occur. On that point, who do i speak to to get the ammo I didn't fire reimbursed?
