As for solo stuff, one thing I see over and over again is the grasp of speed. There's a good reason nano canes/drakes/etc are so popular with small gangs and solo pilots. Same reason applies to the Vagabonds, inty's, and other fast movers. Speed lets you dictate range and when you can call it quits and gtfo when things look bad. It also comes into play against an unorganized/undisciplined gang you might come across, kiting out faster enemies from the bulk of their fleet is a sure fire way to isolate them and possibly down them before their friends can get to them.

Rule number 1 of pvp, there is no solo. Get this out of your mind.

There's plenty of solo to be had. Just needs someone with the balls and brains to go and find it.

Edited by: Christine Peeveepeeski on 27/05/2011 20:00:10 I don't get this 'no solo pvp' crap I keep hearing. Sure I don't get the kills someone who flys with a null sec fleet or gate camping gang would but many of my fights have been solo or real small gang work.
I'm new to pvp and basically grabbed a rifter at 2mill sp or so and went pewing. I've ****ed up, and still new to it all with a KB that's nothing to shout about but I've had some great solo pvp's in my time.
2 tips,
Work out how to keep range and work out when to run. If you learn these quickly through practise you'll have a blast.
P.S. wensley your guides rock. Thanks for those

It seems like a lot of people think solo pvp = honorable 1v1 ***et. Solo pvp is usually 1 v 3-4 (depending on what you are willing/able to engage).

Don't believe the claims that solo pvp doesn't exist, just depends on your level of vigilance.
I'd say stick to rifters for lone roaming for now, I've trained up interceptors and AF and most their support skills, but still got plenty to learn about other ships and such as I'm barely 4 months into eve, so parked them for the time being. But even I can tell you solo pvp isnt just possible but also fun.
There is only one way to learn.

Confirming that solo pvp is alive and well, even for new players. In my blog I have recorded every fight I have had since I started pvp (back in February). Virtually all of my fights are solo.
I wouldn't want to fly any other way.

Greetings:
Patience is a virtue, even in Eve. Learn your ships, learn the enemy ships, and then go hunting leaving targets be that you know you cannot handle; and hope, you don't run into a gate camp or fleet that can take you out in the mean time.
When you have trouble finding targets to fight, consider asking in local or private convo for a 1v1. You might be surprised how many say yes. Fleet up, and go to a safe you know will be burnt.
Yesterday I had a short conversation with a Rifter pilot while flying my battle Helios; and he was happy that I didn't blow him up the other day when he tried to engage my Cynabal in the same Rifter (I didn't see the point; and I try not to be a km junkie). He agreed to a 1v1, and it was a very good fight (he almost won) - http://www.minmatar-militia.org/kb/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=197981
But as others wrote, you may find what you think will be a 1v1 only to get ganked (the other day I went for a 1v1 in Rens, and the Rifter pilot had a Guardian repairing him shortly after the fight started; I lost), or the odds may still be doable (same day as the Harpy I found a gcc Brutix pilot fighting a Rifter at a customs office near a planet, went after the Brutix and the Rifter pilot went gcc on me... fight was still doable).
Thank you.

They are tossers. Get out before they turn you into a tosser too.
Hilarious! He's right though "I am the Alpha and the Omega" |
