Hallo again everyone. I've been doing a little reading, and knowing that scorch crystals dont last forever, I've begun to wonder how long they last for. Medium ones in particular, if it makes any difference. Planning on fitting them on a Navy Omen and eventually a Zealot. I'm a bit concerned about the lifespan of the crystals since both ships have a significant RoF bonus. While subjective estimates are great, if there was a way to calculate how many shots you can get out of one crystal, thay would be most helpful.

1000 shots.
Load a fresh set of crystals, never change them, then go fire at an asteroid.
They all break at the same time; after 1000 shots. |

So for the 400k they cost, i only get 1000 shots out of them? Doesnt sound economically viable for running missions at 40isk pershot per gun... Especially on high RoF guns...

Edited by: Linda Shadowborn on 08/05/2011 03:14:25 40 isk per round isnt much. Thats about what most ammo cost.
Edit: to clarify medium EMP goes for around 50 and autocannons sure spew them out

Faction torps for my Golem average about 4000 per round. 40 is nothing. ______________________________________________________ PVP is a question that has no one right answer but a lot of wrong ones. - Aelana Anais

I spent about 850 isk per shot in my Kronos. So yeah, 40 is pennies.

Flaming over a typo... Sheesh. 40 wouldnt be a problem, but 400 a shot is 2k a salvo, and shooting at mostly frigs for 2k a salvo just doesnt make sense to me... Sounds like i just need to stick to my beam lasers and get the same range out of T1 crystals. Especially since part of the reason i use lasers is to avoid ammo costs.

Are you going to be running level 2, 3 or 4 missions in that ship? If it's level 2-3, then I agree with you; it's probably not viable economically to use Scorch. However, this is assuming you're doing those mid-level missions for money. If you're just trying to quickly grind the standings to move on to level 4 then speed is more important, or if you're doing level 4 missions then the money you earn in the level 4s will easily cover the cost of the ammo. It also depends on what you're fighting and where they tend to be. Scorch gives you almost the range of beams while still using pulse lasers. If the targets are already going to be in pulse laser range with regular crystals, no need for it. ______________________________________________________ PVP is a question that has no one right answer but a lot of wrong ones. - Aelana Anais

1 crystal will last 1000 shots right. so if I fire 999 shots and reprocess the crystal do I get some materials back?

Except you can't. Well, maybe large ones, but both medium and small crystals need to be in a single stack to reprocess. So once you fit them to your ship (not even fire them) they cannot be sold on the market or reprocesses.

You're thinking of t2 crystals. Faction/t1 can be reprocessed.

You wont use scorch long anyway if you do missions. When you can start doing lvl 4's, beams/tachyons are usually the better option wich you'll use t1 or faction ammo for.

Not very long, about 8.3 minutes in pve with a gank fitted legion(7474 shots/h) per crystal(about 45 minutes per set of 6 crystals).
Zealot and NIO have a quicker rof(still one turret less) so expect life frames of less than 40 minutes for a set.
You are basically looking at a ammo cost of 3M+ p/h. ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

ANd if you look at what I quoted, it was referring to t2 crystals.

Only use them on Battleships at far range. Otherwise you're just saving maybe 3 seconds per cruiser or whatever. Frigs you're gonna 1shot anyways
edit : was referring to PVE
