Edited by: Kat Bandeis on 09/05/2011 22:08:08 Been looking at a Rook for some low-sec pvp action, and curious about some suggestions. Here is the fit that I'm looking at:
[Rook, Kat's Rook] Damage Control II Ballistic Control System II 'Hypnos' Signal Distortion Amplifier I
ECM - Multispectral Jammer II ECM - Multispectral Jammer II Medium Shield Booster II 10MN Afterburner II Dark Blood Warp Scrambler (10.5k) Large Shield Extender II
5x Heavy Missile Launcher II, Thunderbolt Fury Heavy Missile
Medium Particle Dispersion Augmentor I Medium Warhead Calefaction Catalyst I
Warrior II x5

One suggestion: Rooks have 7 midslots.
Also, why invest in the cost of a faction point and only fit a T1 distortion amp?
I'd be interested in seeing your km's.

There's plenty wrong with that setup of yours but I'll give you one hint. Cap booster. Solo Rooks can't do without it.

Speed is definately in issue, I'm working to get that taken care of. Any real recommendations?

I don't have a specific fit, but relying exclusively on a disruptor to keep them around is a really, really bad idea. You're slow, will have to use your MWD a lot more, and the cap dies on that fit in just over a minute.
I never run out of cap and never have a problem with keeping stuff in range of the disruptor. To me getting into web/scram range yourself is a bad idea. As for the launchers, I guess some of us are richer than others You could always go with XR launchers if you are poor or Malkuth if you really like your pennies.

^ Evidently.
Anyway, I think your fit would work better if you changed it to:
[Rook, Get AWU 5, also use meta 4 jammers] Damage Control II Ballistic Control System II Signal Amplifier II
Y-T8 Overcharged Hydrocarbon I Microwarpdrive Warp Disruptor II BZ-5 Neutralizing Spatial Destabilizer ECM Enfeebling Phase Inversion ECM I 'Hypnos' Ion Field ECM I 'Umbra' I White Noise ECM Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction
Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile Heavy Missile Launcher II, Caldari Navy Scourge Heavy Missile
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
Warrior II x5
More DPS, less cap consumption, T2 ammo, and half the price, in exchange for a loss of 1k EHP.
Still has no way of keeping people from burning back to gate when solo, though, so I don't see how you're going to kill anyone who's not a drooling vegetable.

Well you can fit a scam if you want but I dont like getting that close. Some will escape yes but I like the range the disruptor gives so I can gtfo when it goes wrong. Im still experimenting with the fit so improvements can always be made

Except when they fit dual ECCM and gank you down before you have another chance to jam them.

Bit of a difference between a Falcon and a Rook.
Though under those particular circumstances, the Rook would still have some trouble.

Or tech 2 because my skills and fit don't suck. Just because you have the money doesn't mean it's not an idiotic waste of cash. _________________________________

In a Rook solo? First, as with all solo engagements, knowing what to fight, and what not to fight is key. If ever there was a Caldari ship in EvE to get up close and personal with it would be the Rook. Plus, the Rook's extreme jam strength potential means you can reliably jam almost anything that doesn't have ECCM or an extreme sensor strength, like other recons, or certain T3 fits. Jam, scram, plus a decent amount of DPS = dead target. With long-point, he can get away, either when you cap out of he burns out of point range.

Ship still works. Unlike you I am at least trying to help the OP with a fit rather than having one.
As for the scram vs disrptor. Pilots choice, I just like the range option more.

The problem is as I see it, that the rook doesn't have much ability to hold it's target without a scram. Just the other day I was fighting a rook I guess "I don't have a lick of sense" but, I really don't usually worry about a rook too much in my myrm, but when due to miscommunication my friendly mega warped out leaving me alone against 2 drakes, a rook and a cerb, I found surprisingly the rook had no scram (I am in a blaster myrm so I was right on top the rook the other ships were far away shooting missles at range).
All I had to do then was MWD away a bit and warp, sad thing is we could have got that rook had there not been a miscommunication, seeing as people don't seem to be packing many gallente jammers these days oh well, killed a drake and didn't lose anyone I guess.
But my point is, if you are solo with only your own tackle, unless you are sure you are faster than them (i.e. in a vagabond or something) you really need to be able to shut off their MWD or they will just be able to leave.

Fighting stupid tards is definitely going to be enjoyable pvp experience. Go for it...
Really, no. Get bc, you will get MUCH more interesting fights. Rook is gang force multiplier, you should use it only when you absolutely need to. And if you are not out there for fun, i dont care about you.
Also your fit is terrible, it seems like you dont understand basics of pvp /db scram, ab, med shield booster?/ - or you are trolling.

I suppose a truly talented Rook pilot should be able to go solo against multiple targets, but at the end of the day, he'll probably only kill one because its all you'd be able to point.

iirc hypnos has same stats as T2, is easier to fit and costs less than T2. Why anyone uses T2 is unclear to me.
As for rook for solo pvp. Imo solo with ecm is lame and good luck gettin solos where you can actually kill something as any competent pilot will either not engage your rook or flies something you can't catch or has blob nearby.

I don't see many solo caldari ships around or if it is, that's a drake which i doubt u can drop in time or even ever.
Drop caldari jammer for something else i suggest.. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote: "For me EvE wasn't that much fun, many ppl refer to it as a nicely designed database front-end and that |

A Rook is quite capable of dropping a Drake solo, if he can keep it jammed. If you miss a cycle though, you're going to be challenged

Drake will load stalker fofs and rook is going home soon. Especially that loltastic fit without any sign of buffer. Ofc there is bigger chance its going to het alphad somewhere "on the way to solo pvp."
