Hello everyone!
I created my account around christmas 2007 and I never really got going with EVE. Played in periods of two months or so before I stopped so despite having my account for 3,5 years, I still consider myself a noob. I had an incident where I was set back for buying ISK aswell, so my account is a big mess. (Note: Since selling PLEX for ISK was allowed, I didn't know buying ISK for real money was not. Be gentle on the flaming please! :))
All in all, I have 3 characters that are okay-ish at best. I have a few million training points in each of them but it's nothing spectacular. As the title suggests, I'm thinking about starting over, simply deleting the characters I have and going from there. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this? Should I? Shouldn't I? My main character has skills that are pretty much 50% mining 50% fighting and I don't like that at all. My taste for character types have changed a lot over the years, I'm not sure what I want to do, but I don't want my character to be okay at several things, I want it to be good at one thing!
Any ideas? Sorry if the post is messy, just speaking my mind. :)
Thanks!

If you are ashamed of your history, then go ahead and trash your characters.
Otherwise, having mining skills on your character, even if you never plan to use them does not hurt you. This is not "insert some other mmo or game" where you have fixed skill trees and whatnot, and making a "bad" choice early screws you up forever. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Thanks for the reply. Still a bit indecisive...
Question: Say I have a -1.0 bil ISK currency on a character. Can I sell it in the bazaar for let's say 2.0 bil, send the net 1.0bil to my other character and then transfer the character being sold to the buyer?
Thanks!

You are not allowed to sell character which have negative ISK balance.
If that balance is seriously that low, and you only have 3 mil SP, i would say trash the character, unless you are willing to buy 4 plexes. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Oh alright. Thought the rules thread said I only had to state if it was negative. I'll be trashing that one for sure then!
I'm curious about getting a diplomatic or science/trade character, but I'm not really sure what role they fit in the EVE universe. What missions can such characters take on etc? What ships do they fly?

There's no need to start over even if you never want to mine again. That's one of the great things about Eve's skill system...if you don't like the path you've been training down, then start on another...in the end, you'll be more well rounded for it. ~Gnosis~ |

I guess that's true... However, I like the thought of starting from scratch, feels less messy and having a new project is always exciting! :)

Actually, that's not really accurate. This was one of the reasons why the new ruling is "you have to pay the ISK for char transfer to the char being transfered", so that any negative balance would be automatically extinguished. Attempting to sell a -1 bil ISK char for 2 bil ISK would have the buyer send 2 bil to that char, which would end up at +1 bil wallet, and only 1 bil could be transfered to one of the other characters on the seller's account(s).
Of course, it makes very little sense to sell a character for LESS than the ISK equivalent of abs(negative balance) plus the ISK "equivalent' of either the 20 usd/eur or 2x PLEX transfer fee, because that's basically just breaking even. So, selling a -1 bil wallet char for 2 bil ISK actually only nets you around 300-600 mil ISK (depending on chosen transfer method). _

I stand corrected, you are indeed right. Although I doubt many people would buy a 3 mil SP character with -1 bil ISK because average value per mil SP is ~250 mil, so that means you would have to pay someone 250 mil to take that character from you. ;)

Diplomacy in EvE is something that is based on trust and player skills, so any character is good for it. Science on the other hand requires a lot of research as a player to see where to invest time and money. _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

Actually the character with negative balance has alot of skillpoints as it is not an original character of mine - I bought it off of someone else with the ISK I had earned "illegally". Thanks alot for the information!
As for the science route, I think it might suit me as I will have little time for playing, I'd rather spend time on planning etc. This is one of the reasons I'm returning to EVE, since I can still progress without having to "grind" my way through the game.
The Incursion expansion has hit since I last played the game. Did it bring any new interesting choices of "careers"? :)

By having ISK removed from your wallet by CCP for one reason or another.
