Hoi Shadow, I support your oppinion, but I dont have much hope, regarding a server sweep, even though the game is so young. But the fact that the "marketing-machinery" wasn't activated by CCP, prior to the release, may not have been an error of the staff, but pure intention. Here's my scenario: I do not monitor any CCP intern chats, dispite knowing CCP is monitoring our corp's intern chat
CCP had to release the game. The investors called for it. CCP was aware of the deficiencies whinin the game, so it was in their interest to draw less people to the game, then the game could actually handle. That the whole policy of EVE is directed by the Investors and not CCP can be seen from a different fact: CCP sold the game for at least €40. if we consider, that 20000 copies have been sold the first 4 weeks after the release, this is €800000 in revenues. I bet this barely covers 20% of the dev-costs and start up expenditure, but for the investors it's cash, you better have, than not to have. Even though, this kind of greed is human, for the game of EVE it was not the best way to go. Considering, that the main revenues a MMORPG delivers is not from the game-release, but from the number of subscribers, CCP did wrong! It followed all it's predecessors, cashing in on any occasion there is. Instead of doing so, CCP should have made the game downloadable for free, registering the account would be €15 for the first month. I just imagine, what kind of echo this would have had in the press and comoputer-games media. I bet at least 40-50 thousand players would have tried this month of EVE for 15 bucks. If you count in the addiction factor (this is nothing new and has been seen in many mmorpgs), we could nearly have double the number of players that are in EVE-universe atm. Imho this would be a win/win situation. The investors would have the cash, and we would have more players->fun. That this way was not choosen, shows to me, that the player figures we have atm, are the ones, that CCP wanted. Just my thoughts, but think about it.
