I know how to get the splash screen to not show, but is there a way to eliminate the pause in the load?
It takes 17 seconds to get to the log in screen whether the splash screen is enabled or not.
Looking at PerfMon, it's certainly not processor or HDD related. Max of 13% usage on the processor and less than 750KB/S on the HDD during load. Considering I can load Photoshop CS5 in under 3 seconds, EVE should just as fast.

There's a graphic file you rename....can't recall what it is. Not that it matter because it doesn't speed it up at all.
Cache is cleared. Still 17 seconds. Didn't figure that to be the issue though since it's happened since I did a fresh install to my entire system.

Open EVE after long no-EVE break. Takes 26 seconds. Didn't look at CPU&HDD use, just time. Close EVE, reopen EVE. 17 seconds. HDD&CPU use minimal. Close EVE again, reopen EVE again. 17 seconds again. HDD&CPU use minimal.
Hmm. I doubt my machine is nearly identical to that of the OP, but you never know. Odd.

10 ISK says a lazy programmer hard-coded a delay on the time between splash screen and client opening.

I can confirm this too. There is a very noticeable "longer" delay in loading the client since about patch 1.2 or so. 17 seconds sounds about right.
It is amazing how annoying just 17 seconds is. CCP, fix please.

I was curious about this too.
If you turn on the logging server you can see it's actually loading a ton of things. Could do with some feed back to the users. It's not stalling, just feels like it.

Spurty is right. The client does load a lot of things on load of things on startup, which means it takes a bit of time for the actual window to present itself to you.
But at the same time, those of you who's noticed that the client recently has taken a bit longer to load are right as well. It will be fixed in the next major patch.

whenever a new major patch comes out (like a new splash screen sorta big patch) it seems to work lightning fast for me, then over time get slower and slower. Until the next patch, not sure if it's related >< Or I'm seeing things.

Yeah, but the question is, WHY is it loading so slow ? Where does it load it from and where ? The HDD is not heavily used, and the CPU is not anywhere near 100%, not even for a single core, and the memory size after full load is a mere 244-245MB after starting up with 109MB in the first couple of seconds. So the HDD is not a bottleneck, the CPU is not a bottleneck, WHAT IS the bottleneck that makes it load in 17 seconds on almost all machines regardless of machine power ?

Edited by: Merouk Baas on 11/05/2011 23:41:22 Professional programs show a loading bar at the bottom of their splash screen. Actually, they have an interactive splash screen (with buttons to Play Game, Cancel, or connect to various official web pages / tech support) that also shows useful information (such as whether the server is up, how many people are connected, version information, etc).
At the splash screen, EVE should load the security (anti-macro) routine first, then do server and login handshaking, then load up its cache/etc. Loading up the graphics and game engine should happen last.
EDIT: Akita, test for you: unplug from the internet and start EVE, see if it's faster.

With just the information so far, one is almost tempted to conclude that there's a long string of fixed time delays which make the bulk of those 17 seconds of waiting, when the client could theoretically load in just a couple of seconds on "stronger" machines otherwise.

I give a frak, and some other people do. Just because he said it will be "fixed" doesn't mean it will. For the huuugely long time of maybe 5 minutes, no, I had absolutely nothing better to do. Funny how you also don't have enough of a life to not snap at random people wondering about how stuff works the way it does instead of some other way. You must absolutely and totally hate the Discovery channels too.

Disabled the network card. Same 17 seconds from double click on EVE shortcut to the actual login screen fading in, give or take half a second. Basically, no noticeable effect.

Edited by: Mitera on 12/05/2011 12:01:49 Just thought I'd follow-up.
My system has a i7-960, Radeon 5850 and a C300 SSD. If I'm getting the exact same load times as someone who has a lower-end processor, video card and regular HDD, then it HAS to be a built in delay. Granted, I don't know if other users who posted times have similar configurations.
I was just hoping that there was a switch or parameter to disable it.
And you're right, 17 seconds is not a big deal. But it SEEMS like a long time when there's nothing going on.
(Meh....I'm the OP....just posted on wrong character....)

Introduction of the delay *seemed* to occur with the patch claiming better anti-macro trickery.
I for one couldn't care less about 17seconds. Eve boots into a playable state far quicker than any other game I have installed. If it's there for a reason, leave it be.

I'd probably feel the same, but it becomes really annoying when switching alt's and having to regularly log-out/log-in (I'm too poor to run separate accounts, both in $$'s and ISKies).
Actually, why on earth does the client need to shutdown completely in order to switch between characters on a single account? All that purging and re-loading seems totally unecessary and redundant. CCP, please fix.

I can go from clicking an icon to being ingame in other MMO's in the time it takes to go from clicking login to getting the character select screen in EvE.
As an Australian with an "average" net connection (aka drops a couple of times an hour at peak times) it gets annoying. Luckily I spend most of my time station spinning so it hasn't cost me a ship yet.
