Take the 4 level 1 cruisers, all point at being miners first and formost with large holds and several turret slots. Look at them though and the amarr one is heavilly unbalanced compared to the the other 3.

name- cargo- drones- turret- missile
Aug - 465 - 100 - 3 - 0
ExE - 425 - 800 - 4 - 0
Osp - 485 - 400 - 3 - 2
Scy - 440 - 100 - 3 - 2

The Exe is far too strong able to fly 4 harvesters, 4 med drones and mine with 4 miner1's. The Aug basically has to mine with 3 miner 1's and 2 light combat drones. Or 2 elites ( if you can afford them ) and lost a miner 1 to a gun. The Osp and Scy aren't bad although losing a missile slot on the Osp to compencate for the extra drones probably wouldn't be a bad idea.

Personally I think the exe needs two turrets removing and 1 or (preferably) 2 Missile bays adding to the Aug.

Maybe they are supposed to be miners, but they still have a lot of other strengths. I would say the lvl 1 cruisers is the most balanced line.

Well the exe is the toughest but I'm sure it wouldn't win. Pretty sure the exe would or maybe the osprey as they have more CPU and power to power up shield boosters etc. not to mention more med slots.

Sorry for answering a belated thread, although I think this thread is very useful.

The comparison in the first post does not take account an important factor which is the number of low slots you can use to put cargo expanders.

If you take this into account, the Aug has the best advantage for having as much as five slots.

Level 1 cruisers are in effect, mining cruisers. You don't take these ships out to engage other cruisers, especially other player cruisers. That's a nice way to blow an investment.

Instead level 1 cruisers are cruisers you make serious money with by mining with sufficient defense to take out low to med level NPC pirates. Or as a trading ship on high to med security areas.

The Aug has the highest cargo capacity of all level 1, with 465 plus five cargo expanders. Is there any other cruiser of any level that has that much space? (The closest is another Amarr cruiser called the Omen.) I heard there are people who reach nearly a thousand cubes with this cruiser. Add three mining lasers and two mining drones, you got a ship seriously fitted to eat rock.

In fact, just because of the space alone, I would pick the Aug as the best roid eater of all the level one cruisers, and for those looking to use level one cruisers as a money making machine that can serve as a stepping stone for more powerful combat optimized cruisers.

I love my Osprey. I use it for mining and fighting NPCs. I haven't tried other races' ships, but looking at the stats, I would say that level 1 cruisers are very well balanced.

Because corp mining involves the use of indies ( heck even solo usually does ) the cargo space doesn't really matter. I have 575 on mine atm and never top half of that space.

When it comes to drones I can only fly a single harvester but can't even really do that as I need the drone space for combat.

OTOH the Exequeur can run several harvesters and mount a single gun or run seveal combat drones with 4 guns or mix it. In other words sucks roids like there is no tomorrow.

The onyl thing the low slots are really handy for are OD's and power systems.

Well have you dropped a container lately? After the patch, I recently find the timed dropping pretty annoying and actually found running back and forth the base pretty quicker.

I could mine 550+ cubes inside my enhanced Probe well within 5 minutes. What do I do for the extra one or two minutes, jiggle my thumbs?

If you miss the 5 minute window on your container drop, you wait for another five minutes.

By the way, if a looter comes to take your containers away in a high sec space, what are you going to do? Shoot at it? And have the Concord come down and blow your cruiser to bits?

You can sit and watch there in utter futility as a looter in a Bestower******your container nest, no matter how well armed your cruiser may be.

Setup yourcontainer first with a piece of ammo or use a pirate can. Then start mining. If you then start trying to produce a replacement at say 30 mins you should manage one before the first pops without any mining interuption.

I know that trick too. Thanks anyway.

But the other problem stays. There is no defense against looters other than find a system where no one goes. But usually high level areas tend to have a considerable amount of people, and I had cans looted before.

I would rather take home the ore rather than sweat this ammo for a can or use timing techniques.

BTW, an AUG with five alpha cargo expanders reaches to about a thousand cubes in cargo space.
