Originally by: Lidia Prince I thought I'm the only one who thinks that multiboxing is kinda ruining the game, killing a large piece of MMO part, limition social interactions to corps, fleet battles and gangs. Plus, changing the definition of "soloing" missions, lol. But sadly, IskPlease said it:

Like it or not (though I'm pretty sure that ~95% of multiboxers pay via ISK)
You are certainly not alone in this regard. Multiboxing is really effecting game in some ways. I still find fun to be had, certainly, but those of us wo refuse to multi-account are at a disadvantage. We can't scout for ourselves without logging in and out. We can mine...but not very efficiently. No point in skilling for say, an ORCA as a single account player...stuff like that. I really tried hard to give nullsec alliance play a go...but I just didn't have the time to do it justice. Such a shame that. Way too much "hurry up and wait" in nullsec play for some reason.

While I do have a lot of sympathy with what you're saying, I don't think it's fair to call "greed" on CCP's part. It's a problem with MMOs across the board because it's a problem with MMOs across the board that people leave, and new people need to be attracted to keep the game going - that is what leads to a decline in gameplay quality.
Check out this essay, Why MMOs Aare Designed By Newbies, from 2004 by one of the "old hands" in the business, Richard Bartle.
It's a sort of sad, intractable aspect of the logic of the business - i.e. just for CCP to tread water, it would "have" to happen. And when you compare the trajectory of EVE in this regard with other games, I think CCP have done an amazing job as King Cnut. EVE still has, after 8 years, some of the most intricate gameplay around in many respects, plus they've managed to pull off the miracle of actually growing over time. *****

You want to play like a casual player but receive the rewards of a hardcore player.
If you play casually you can afford everything a single toon will ever need.

You WANT to play soccer - dressed to play soccer (spend time with ur mates etc) but the apathy that is the alliances these days is EXACTLY as the OP reports it. So what do you end up doing? Playing soccer alone.
Sounds like you need a new alliance. If your directors are worthless ****s you're going to have a bad experience. This is the primary reason most of the NC is in such terrible shape. Vuk is at the top hoarding untold amounts of isk, directors at all levels are increidbly stingy with public funds to reimburse losses, and the fc's of any quality have long stopped giving a **** because of this. They realise the leadership is in it to stack isk, not enjoy the game, so most of the skill has bled out to PL or CF where they actually spend lavishly on their grunts and ensure that there is always something to do.
The primary role of an alliance leader is to make the game fun for members, a lot of big-name alliances are failing at that quite miserably at the moment, but they don't represent the whole of null and definitely not the whole of alliances in EVE. Find a corp/alliance that is worth being in and you don't need to command your own personal armada to have fun.

Edited by: BrundleMeth on 18/05/2011 20:04:05 Yeah some of this stuff is funny. I've spent 4 hours getting ready for an op in 0.0 only to have it fail miserably in 15 minutes. I gotta say though for me part of the fun was that 4 hours, gathering everyone up, getting ready, chatting, complaining, etc. I'm in a position where I play 5 hours a day, maybe 12-13 on Saturday and Sunday each day. I have a physical disability and this allows me to stay sane because I just can't do a lot anymore. I pay cash for 5 accounts and have a few special accounts that never undock. I just like watching their training go up and up and don't want to part with them.
I also got 2 dozen or so ships worth over 2 Billion each I just like to fit and unfit for craps and giggles.
And of course I have another 30-40 ships I can take out to fight with on a moments notice. But I really spend a great deal of my time just chatting in NPC corps chat.
It's all good for me...
