The socket closed message is displayed when your client fails to receive five consecutive packets of data from the server. Of the petitions I have handled regarding this error, the vast majority of the problems have been with a players connection.
If you continue to have socket closed errors then please feel free to submit a petition in the Technical Support group and Connection category. We will be happy to guide you through running some diagnostics so we can determine where the problem is.

Scorpio63 wrote:Had this before when i first came back to the game. It was 5 past the hr EVERY hr. After the last big patch it stopped doing it. It started again yesterday at 13 mins past the hour, EVERY hour. Today its 47 mins past the hr EVERY hr. As much as I appreciate your quick response, I really dont think its my connection. No other games i play drop me regularly at the exact same time every hour. Just FYI i have tried the change port workaround as suggested by CCP. And its made no difference.
If the disconnections are happening with such regularity it could be that your router has Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) enabled.
Essentially DHCP will give your computer an IP address which it can use for a limited time, usually an hour. When this time has passed it will give your computer a different IP address. When a new IP address is given to your computer then this could cause you to loose connection to the server.
If you could take a look and see if DHCP is enabled in your router. If it is then try disabling it and hopefully that should solve the problem.
If DHCP is not enabled or the connection issues continue then please submit a petition and we will be happy to offer further assistance.

Perhaps you should look into ways for players to solve the issues with their connections because at this rate, I think the players' connections are going to lose you more than a handful of subscriptions.
If the connection problem is found to be not server related then all we can generally do is advise players to contact their ISP. If the problem is affecting a number of our players then we also generally contact the ISP in question to reinforce a desire for the issue to be fixed asap. GM Arcade | Customer Support

It may be of use if people could list their service provider and country. I have spoken with numerous EVE friends of mine and of the 5 or 6 of them who have suffered this issue, all of them have been from the UK, and all of them are Virgin Broadband customers.
There was an issue I recall from a number of years ago whereby some ISP's were blacklisting any EVE data being sent across their networks, listing it as heavy P2P traffic and "dropping packets". These dropped packets resulted in players disconnecting from the EVE servers.
This may be something everyone here needs to consider, as it does seem the much more likely explanation for how so few people out the 400 thousand or so that play EVE are suffering such problems, rather than the chances of it being software related.
