It can be argued how the forum ratio falls, either towards pvpers or 'carebears'. For me Eve is a PvP game and I can't imagine never killing someone. So I ask the question, is there anyone here who retains their 'virginity'? How do you feel about it, do you often imagine doing it one day? Is it by choice?
Thanks.

I will admit, I have never attacked another ship in 2.5 years. There is no intrinsic value for destroying another ship, killmails cannot be cashed in for isk, ships are flown with the cheapest modules I can pull out of level 4 loot, and I have to give up training time by replacing my implants. And everytime I have tried to head into lowsec, the return on investment of the time spent aquiring, putting a cheap ship together, and jumping into anything lower then .5 sec is not worth the 15 minutes or 3 jumps it takes me to loose it. If I want to make deep safes and jump gate book marks where I have to land on grid then burn away I want to do it uninterrupted so i can get it done right then and there, not dodge every dude for a couple days to make some decent safes in a dozen systems. I choose not to get involved in ship to ship combat, its over before it begins for me and the mechanics of clicking overview-orbit-right click directions feels to sluggish for me.

If you build drakes and target other drakes. There's is definitely an intrinsic value for destroying another ship.

Why bother playing a game at all if it all comes down to the acquisition of ISK? you say kill mails cannot be cashed in for ISK but ISK cannot be cashed in for any benefit IRL (not "legally" anyway)
Whats the point in playing if you are so terrified your space pixels might get turned into some different space pixels by another player? PvP isn't about kill mails either its about the experience of flying with your corp mates and enjoying all the random events along the way, some of them are good some are bad, some will make you laugh and others will frustrate you but at the end of the day you get to actually live your IG life and fill it with experiences instead of everything being a time to profit calculation.

I'm more or less categorized as a "Carebear with teeth". That being said, I've got a few corpses that are waiting for display in Incarna. If I get a half-decent chance, I've got a few more heads I'd like to add to the collection.
For the most part, I'll just take the contents of their wallets, instead of their lives. Market PvP, FTW. _______________________________

Edited by: Bane Necran on 20/05/2011 02:43:58 I've been playing since '05, and have never actively tried to kill another player.
The game doesn't offer any real incentive to do it, and i'm not the type to grief. I spend a fair bit of time in lowsec and even 0.0, though, escaping people who'd like to kill me while doing my own thing. The same rush some people get from killing others i get from outwitting them. Have had some particularly epic chases in 0.0 flying a prowler. Looking forward to what smuggling might be like in Incarna. That's something i could really get into.
Actually, now that i think of it, there was one time i set out to kill people. I was pretty drunk and some friends talked me into heading into the great wildlands looking for people to blow up. It ended pretty hilariously, and caused a bit of a diplomatic incident.

I got my first true PvP kill the other day can flipping.
Me and a corpmate had been checking belts and find two retrievers, I'm in a caracal, corpmate is in an itty II.
I flip both retriever's cans (completely full of kernite, lucky find for us) and they both warp out. We wait for a few minutes expecting and hoping they come back in some failfit miner-combat vessels, and one warps in in a Prophecy. He takes my shields down, and I warp out. Switch to my Drake, warp back in, and engage the Prophecy. At this point his friend has come back in a Bestower and is taking OUR rightfully-stolen ore (and is now red to me).
I would have started firing on the Bestower and continued fighting the Prophecy but I wasn't 100% sure I could take the Prophecy and I only had one point (after this I had my Itty friend carry a distruptor to pin people down in situations like this until I could take care of them)
Of course in hindsight I should have kept the Prophecy pointed and 2-volleyed the Bestower because his first volley of lasers took my shields to 98% and my first missile volley took him to 40% shields. I beat the Prophecy with a good 45%-50% shields remaining and my Itty friend takes the remaining ore. My first successful kill, my only regret is I didn't get the Bestower as well

this is why miners don't shoot can flipper. even if they come back with a ship made to fight back there is always an escalation until the miner dies. its the flippers that have the Epeen to loose, the miners are just trying to make a living.
i haven't killed many personally like to shoot at ninja salvagers, spawn/agro the room and cloak up (it is a real art to get out and back into a mission without taking out the scramber frigs). just to watch him and his buddies get killed by the mission. then i salvage them and the mission wrecks, so much joy from such a small act.
i dont get ninja salvaged much...i wonder why?

It's not that hard.... I got a guy to quit Eve because I said mean things to him
Also I was typing in a Jigsaw type voice (if that makes any sense), Saw ftw
Anyway, that + putting random private bounties on him drove him away. I hated that guy

I never killed anyone solo, outside of fleet operations or corp task.
I hunted in solo mode, sometimes finding acceptable matches. I fought people to ship destruction, but most duels were unfair - their buddies came to save their sorry ass. Even though I had PvP buddies too, I think that duels must be honored, otherwise you can as well get out of low sec and move on to exile.

Yeah, never done it. I like the excitement of PvP when it happens, but I'm pretty crap at it and haven't managed to kill anyone yet, but have been killed a dozen times or so.
Mind you, I've fended people off a few times too (i.e. got them down to structure and they warped out). But I don't have point as I like fiddling about with different sorts of modules in my mids, so people just get away.
Basically I'm a carebear (missions, exploration, mining) who's learned to live with the ever-present possibility of PvP in EVE because I like the feeling of background danger and risk, but my heart's not really in PvP, I'm more into just pottering about pretending to be a space pilot.
Part of the problem is that I'm one of those unfortunate players who's congenitally unable to play "bad" characters, so I can't bear to besmirch the rp "feel" of my "good" character by going out attacking people for no reason.
I actually started a Minmatar character to see if I could learn PvP from scratch, but even with a pristine character intended for the purpose, I just couldn't go out attacking people for no reason, and she ended up being a "good" character too
I'm slightly embarrassed about my nonexistent k/d ratio, but not embarrassed enough to be bothered to do anything about it. If I ever manage to kill someone one day, or if I ever get a decent k/d ratio some day, that will be nice, but it would be just sort of incidentally nice, and it would only, always, and ever be as a result of fighting in self-defence. I would never attack someone out of the blue for no reason, just can't do it, sadly.

But it was Wensley! I think I shot him twice and ran out of ammo.
I've lost a couple of drakes though, so that more than makes up for the damage I've done. One of them had a module on it that I thought was missing. I found it! On the KM :\
But seriously, I fail at PvP.

Regrettably, I have accidentally killed someone. I couldn't help it, they just attacked my rifter and I was so panicked I shot back and their merlin died.
Pirates must have been scanning the gates though, because suddenly about 20 people jumped through the gate and shot me till I popped and then podded me.
Far too scary for me, I have never been back to low sec. Safer to mission in high sec with a few friends.

On this character - 54 days old - no. I've never even been involved in PvP on this guy.
On my old account - which is gone now - I killed ~100 pods, and probably twice that many ships. Being a can-flipping, ninja-salvaging, goad that carebear into shooting at me pirate lent itself to popping many a pod from many a ship that I destroyed.

I have two accounts, fully populated. In over four years of play, none of my six toons has ever killed another player.
I don't feel anything about it, tbh. I'm not interested in PvP, and I only PvE for standings. I'm an industrialist and trader, and the more people (other than me...) who shoot at each other, the better business becomes.
I have never been to nullsec, and I only go to losec when I absolutely have to. Cut me in half and you'll find "carebear" written through me like a piece of seaside rock (Brits will understand...) I still belong to NPC Corps, and resolutely plough my own furrow. The challenge of this game is to see just how much I can do, how much wealth I can accumulate, how good I can become at my chosen profession, on my own. Killing other players doesn't help me, so I don't do it.

oh and ive killed a few other ships, not too often or grand or shiny. its really kind of boring since most PVP these days is straight on blob warfare, which is lame (IMHO). Likewise, I find it more fun to come close to dying, but not actually dying and either surviving and getting away, or coming out on top when I probably shouldn't of been able to do either. --

I have killed people's characters in this game, though. Although, they were quickly recloned at their nearest cloning facilities. Does that even count as killing them?

Originally by: hired goon It can be argued how the forum ratio falls, either towards pvpers or 'carebears'. For me Eve is a PvP game and I can't imagine never killing someone. So I ask the question, is there anyone here who retains their 'virginity'? How do you feel about it, do you often imagine doing it one day? Is it by choice?
Thanks.
I began to pvp after a year of carebearing or so.

Not never, but rarely. I've had bad runs with alliances in the past, and I've never found a corp I could settle down with.
That said, I'm not dumb. More often than not, gangs win fights, so I'm hardly going to win a fight on my own.
However, it's not impossible to make ISK as an individual in manufacturing or low/0.0 exploring. I much prefer to be the juicy rabbit for someone to catch, coz it's a pretty big thrill to successfully run the gauntlet of bubbles and gatecamps on ones own. Looking through my losses on the various killboards, there's plenty of T1/shuttle/pod losses out in 0.0 and that's all acceptable losses, yet during those times I was usually out piloting T2/carriers with an alt running T2 transports around with goods.
It's pretty fun tbh. ---

Sure ya do
You dont really get a choice
Eve-kill doesn't have a lot of older kills fyi... It shows me with 38/12, while Battleclinic shows me with 246/19...
But they were accidents...... honest.... really.. (yes, I really need to start actively playing again )

Well I got a few.. lately none take my bait and most around me are roaming in gangs so I wind up sitting cloaked at a safe spot and make recommendations in regards to ship names...
But even us carebears will get out and blow up folks now and then..

I've not gotten a kill.....yet...
I'm no carebear nor am I a pvper. I have lost a few ships due to wardecs and thought it was fun, sucked but still fun. I grind missions to make isk to buy ships to hopefully ....at some point...pvp in. I mean its like playing BF BC2 just to drive the hummer around.

I once got in on a rifter killmail during my short time in RvB. Since then I have lost a bunch of stealth bombers pottering around in nullsec but haven't killed anyone. So, one fragment of one kill in 20 months of playing.
On the other hand ... the mercs I have hired to kill people have added quite a few notches to their belt whilst fulfilling their contracts for me. Not sure if these count as my kills or if I still get to claim to be a virtuous bear.

If we are talking about popping someone's pod, I've never done so solo, but I have some kills from fleet actions.
As far as ships, I'm fairly carebearish, but I cannot imagine someone playing this game and not exploding someone's ship, sometime. You'd pretty much have to tailor your playstyle in such a way as to avoid it ever happening. He put... creatures... in our bodies... to control our minds. He made us... say lies... do things. |

Ship kills? Yes. (none solo, though)
I think I have a pod-kill or two, though I don't remember for sure. -----WARNING SIGNATURE BELOW-----

could you change the name of the thread to
"....never destroyed another charcter's ship"
I certainly havn't killed a person, and unlike the accusations of many on the forrums, I don't regard shooting a character's ship as doing something bad to the other player. (its a game where we bonk each others game pieces and go get another piece)

Nevr killed anyone, dont intend to. I think Eve is there and you can use it as you want. I am 80% of the time watching stuff off my hard-drive as I play Eve. I dont concentrate on Eve enough to do Pvp. Its like something else to do in boring bits because I have such a short attention span. Carebear life fits perfectly for me, because thats how I want to use it.
