I'm at least glad that us being out of it leaves room for such well established, dedicated, and DEFINITELY NOT FAKE alliances like "The Conglomeration of Ill Advised Ideas" whom have 23 members and a total of one kill during their entire existence as an alliance.

Oh, and what's that... the only guy in the alliance with a kill only joined the alliance the day after the tournament rules were announced?

Your chances of winning are a lot better when you have 5 or 6 teams in the tournament, after all.

Lots of entertaining teams missing :< Goonswarm Federation, Dead Terrorists..(final 8 last time)
But it's too late now to add another weekend of pre-qualifiers :/ Hopefully next year CCP will actually give a fu ck about the tournament and not half-a ss the preparation and format because they're too busy with fanfest

Edited by: Devi1man on 20/05/2011 16:37:49 surely they could cut the prelim matches down by a few minutes each (srsly, how long will 5v5 limited ship combat in this format last anyway...if you cant kill each other in that time...its a draw)
viola, double the matches.

Double the work for GMs transporting people / checking for banned modules / implants / whatever, but dunno maybe it would be possible.
Doesn't seem likely tho ;P Making the tourney good is obviously a really really really low priority for CCP.

Edited by: Devi1man on 20/05/2011 16:44:43 I certainly respect the fact that with so many people, no decision CCP ever makes is going to make everyone happy. They could mail out gold bricks to every subscriber and someone would still post a complaint somewhere.
However for an event that draws so much attention, and only happens once a year, and they load up advertising for...you would want it as entertaining and "alliance friendly" as possible.
cmon CCP, there has to be a happy compromise somewhere, surely noone is arguing that this particular outcome is in the best interest of the alliance tournament as a whole.

DT have been final 8 for the last 2 years and last 16 for 3.
Me and my guys will really miss flying in this torney. Changing the auto entry to last 4 was a big shockfor us.
Grats to those who got in.

Clearly the only resolution to so many applicants to compete is to have more alliance tournaments. Spring and Autumn sessions, or Summer and Winter sessions. It would be very cool to run them every season and fly the top teams to fanfest to compete live.

Good job CCP not having the largest alliance in the game participate and instead letting an alliance with our name who only has 54 people in it join.

I would like to give props to PL on their 4th tourney win in a row because none of these scrubs will have a chance to drop them.
I am so glad teams who made it to the Quarter Finals the last two years are being dropped in favor of such powerhouses like Bacon Fortress Gaming Syndicate, Corcoran State, The Conglomeration of Ill Advised Ideas, Waterboard, and of course the infamous Not an Alt Alliance I Swear!

Edited by: Silas Vitalia on 20/05/2011 17:51:11 As a newer alliance that got lucky and made the draw, I do agree with a lot of the sentiment here.
Older, more experienced alliances with proven track-records in this tournament need to be respected and granted admission.
Think NCAA tournament. They don't put all the names in a hat, you have people who know what they are doing making seed rankings.
I'd propose a much larger 'seeded' field based on previous performances and expected capabilities, and a 2nd, 'wild card' feeder branch for unproven groups.
It does seem ridiculous for teams that have gotten far and played well not to be involved.

and worst of all, they think they did a bloody good job to let these no-name bands enter to the battlefields of AT9... PL won this tournament for sure... again.

Here is a totally out there idea: set a minimum alliance member count and age. You know, like how it is with logos?
Hold on. This makes too much sense. Lets nerf jump bridges!

That is not bad actually. You still keep the top 16 teams and then open the field to new alliances who can beat each other senseless in pre quals to earn their spots. Then you begin like normal. I mean seriously CCP, it is a once in a year thing and for some of us the only thing we really look forward to. Keep the dedicated teams and let the nubbins fight and claw their way to victory. If it takes a month of weekends then it does but at least you will put forth the best tourney possible rather than this. --------------------------------------- www.eve-pirate.com original author |

I forgot that is how they pick the best teams for the World Cup. Without their random draw we wouldn't have had that riveting World Cup final of Burkina Faso vs The Democratic Peoples Republic of the Congo. --------------------------------------- www.eve-pirate.com original author |

I'm glad my team made it, but it's still really disappointing that only the top 4 teams get a reserved slot. Top 16 makes much more sense to me.

This is going to be the worst tourney on record. A bunch of scrub alliances are going to bring @#$@$# setups and get ROFLStomped right out of it. Enjoy your new ships PL, I might wanna buy one for 25B if it's what I'm hoping for.
