I have 2 WTB contracts and when I set them up, in like 30 mins, someone outbid me... now i have no chance of getting them completed.
I have promissed to the one who accepts it an amount of money equal to the highest WTB contract on the market (so that i may have a chance) and i am willing to pay that sum after the deal is done. of course nobody believes me, of course everybody thinks it's a scam... and so on.
there SHOULD be an option to add an annex to the contract, in wich i am obligated to pay some amount of money to the one who accepts it. or we shoud be able to just edit the contracts like buy orders on the market.

Of course you have a chance of having them accepted. For two reasons.
1) Contracts, unlike market orders, can be specifically picked out regardless of whether it is the best offer.
2) Someone will fill the other ones at some point anyway. It won't be as fast even if you assume that all better offers will be filled first, but learn from this and apply it to your market orders as well. You don't have to always be top of the pile, so long as you price it within the daily/weekly fluctuation range if will get filled.

Atomyc, while I don't disagree that your idea is interesting, you have to consider the possibilities.
In your case, you would happily agree to top the highest WTB contract. If I saw you offering that and we had game mechanics that bound you to it, I would just post an insanely high WTB contract for the same item I was about to sell you. You would be forced to honor the fake price, then I would take my WTB contract down.
A lot of ideas are basically sound, but will be twisted.

that doesn't apply in the real world... nor does it apply to the virtual world. :P when you are after an item... and everybody bids 0.1 mil more than you ! IT SUX ! and you'll probably get the item after 10 years!

not exactly... i would not top an insane amount for an item ! example: if i want the item X wich is on WTS with 200 mil isk and no WTBs i post a WTB with 100 mil you post a WTB with 101 mil i change my WTB to 102 mil and so on.. we reach somewhere around 180-190 mil where it would be ineficient to WTB and there the price will hold.

If you're just going to make it so you can 0.01 isk on contracts, why not simply add all faction/contract items into the regular market interface? Part of what makes contracts interesting to trade with is that they work differently then the market and require a slightly different way of approaching the bid/ask process.

well... it would be great if they would add faction items on market... i have no problems with that... i (like everybody else) want to get something cheaper... so i'm trying not to buy from 'Sell Orders' and i try to place my own Buy Orders...

I support all currently contracts only items making it into the market.
Price your WTB contract competitively and nobody will outbid you, or if they do itll get filled anyway. The only ones that don't are the garbage heavily underpriced ones. Go make a new disaster, that's what I'm counting on. You're someone else's problem, now I only want you gone... |

Edited by: Atomyc''al on 20/05/2011 17:30:24 true... and not true! i admit... my contracts were underpriced... but they WERE the highest WTB when i placed them... now the demand has gone through the roof... and so has the price... and i WANT to change my offer! it should be possible.

What fees are involved with a private contract? There's the 10,000 isk to set one up, but does either party get hit with taxes or additional fees?

Nope, flat fee of 10k isk. It's very nice and helps you to offer a more attractive price to a retailer when dealing in bulk.

If it bothers you that much, cancel the contract and relist. I think I would've done that before whining about something that everyone does in the market.

I found recently that both selling and buying on contract - being cheapest sale or highest WTB doesn't guarantee you get all the sales (unlike the Market).
I used to sell a bit of faction gear in Jita and found that enough people didn't give a crap if it was 100k or 1000k cheaper, they were in a hurry and if the price looked good on their first search they'd take your order.
Also people sort 'incorrectly' eg looking for newest or oldest orders and select based on that.
Some even refuse to buy from opposing corps or alliances too.

You can always cancel a contract and create it anew.
Besides: There's another main advantage when it comes to contract trading compared to the market stuff: It's clear who is offering. This way you can convo/email the person selling and negotiate and - once the price is right for both - cancel the contract and issue a private one.
Unlike on market, buyers are not required to accept a contract of a trader just underbidding by 0.01 ISK. That's why I usually tend to undercut by the millions once it comes to contracts.
No matter what: Once you try to sell, expect to get undercut. Work harder and/or smarter than the other traders and you'll sell what you've got to offer.

I wouldn't go that far but I'm pretty convinced CCP is doing a lousy job in regards to some items by having the contract/market - combination as mashed up as it is, full of inconsistencies.
a) there is some stuff you can not search for (was it snowballs & launchers & more old stuff?) b) Quafe/Quafe Ultra/Quafe Zero - Quafe Zero contract only? Consistent, eh? c) Echelon & Sansha Codebreaker - Purloined codebreaker contract only, yet Echelon isn't.
It's clear there is no concept from CCP side unless "it is by design" to abuse the two different trading frameworks to offer opportunities for scamming. It comes at the serious cost of making things way more complex and harder to learn for newbie players than those should be.
But hey, it's CCP.
