This is a good post and all, but it only addresses what you should keep. What is it that needs to be deleted when someone says "Clear your cache" that will not effect the installation of the game? Is it as simple as saving what you said, then delete everything else? Then restore what you say back up?
Will the game populate the other info?

i would like an answer also. i read many posts where people are told to clear thier cache but not exactly what to clear.
do i select each folder (except settings) and just delete it? or just delete all files in the folders while leaving the folders intact.
and is this something i could do while warping around, or will deleting cache data while in game screw it up? doing this while on autopilot (for many many minutes a day )each day may help prevent me from having the problems associated with the cache.
if i wipe all the folders (except those noted)will they be recreated with a log in, or when the game needs them?
thank you

Can someone point me to a link where it is explained why one should even 'clear ones cache' ? And OT: why is my avatar not showing on the eve-online site? i've seen no option to upload my avatar anywhere.

It is old good knowledge that some hangs, jams, CTDs might be curable by clearing the cache. Also, sometimes people do even drop the whole new package of EVE and install it, instead of number of patches.
Just one of those 'tricks'...

Takes time, some month or so after first post by character - there is a EVE portrait server by CCP that keeps the pictures and it updates the database perioidically.
No place to upload it, other than making a signature and using it - good place to put signature graphics is eve-files.com

The game will make fresh copies of the Cache folder and all it's vital contents if they are missing. The easiest way to "Clear your cache" is to rename the folder or just move it to a new location. That way you have a "backup" for your settings and folders in case you missed something in the OP. --------------------------------------------------

I cleared my cache last night except for the items listed and it totally solved my issue. I'm able to log in hella quicker than before.

Just to answer this old question once and for all. Nothing in the Cache folder is vital to the functionality of your EVE installation. Deleting everything inside it (except the parts I've stated in the OP, for your sanity's sake) does nothing to hamper your ability to play the game. All needed data will simply be re-loaded by the client as need arises, you might experience longer load times in the beginning sure, but that's what caching is there for to lessen in the first place.

This is a fantastic guide. I lost everything when my power went out the other day in mid game and so now will be backing this stuff up early and often.

thanks, really useful. I presume there's no damage done by clearing the 'logs' folder in Eve, as I can see that getting huge fairly quickly.
