Personally, I hope CCP stays a private company. Would be nice to have the influx of capital an IPO would bring- you also become beholden to investors and your design hopes and dreams kinda become secondary. Stay true to the vision CCP! |

Oh those EverQuest flashbacks...
We have an emergency patch to fix the emergency patch that was suppose to fix the emergency patch slated to fix the regular patch.
All the servers are up, except Bristlebroken, which is still down.
We know bards can not play their songs but will fix them with next week's patch.
We know these two expansions were suppose to be one expansion. But we figured we would give the players a challenge by having the monsters be extreme difficult with this expansion and the means to kill them next expansion.
We know the main boss for this expansion was a naked human that dropped a cloth cap. We did not expect the players to beat it this quickly (we're still creating the expansion through patches).
Rangers are not overpowered.
And of course the forums filled with VAKs at first until Sony bought out Verant and they became SAKs. |

CCP have been "beholden" to investors for a very long time now. There's not much of CCP left in the hands of the original founders/shareholders.
An IPO would, if anything, reduce the influence individual investors have. That may or may not be a good thing. |

Well yeah but is there anyone who has the ability to say: Hey, we don't like this current direction, we think you should spend more time on walking in stations..? |

There are people who certainly have the ability to say "wtf is happening to revenue (subs)" which is much the same thing.
Individual investors/venture capital groups bought into the revenue stream that is Eve, simple as that. They've had a pretty rocky road with WoD/Dust costs and someone made the decision to pull the plug on WoD/Incarna (more or less) - I doubt that was a purely internal decision.
The danger with IPOs is that decisions of that nature are unlikely to be made that quickly and may in some cases happen too late.
/me shrugs, CCP has been effectively owned by venture capital for most of Eve's life..... |

Basically. One might hope that he's learned a useful lesson.
And ofc one ought to remember the role that Lucas Arts played in SWG's death. Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

Articles on TM.com have much more integrity than those on EN24. Riv's articles are the most biased hate filled rants I;ve seen come out of the eve community.
If you read TM.com arrticles, mittens gives opponents of the CFC lots of credit when they score kills on us or score some sort of advantage.

acording to the CEO's twitter account, he was in the CFC at one point. He is now in HBC
This obviously means he is in TEST

If you chill out in the help or rookie channel, a large number of new players inquire about being a pirate. I don't think anyone picks up this game thinking: "Yeah! I wanna be a miner!" It's a necessary means to an end- generating income. |

Yes but when it's made public that the CEO of a major gaming division plays for one of the troll alliances in EVE Online how can that not impact one's perspective on the corporation they represent? That makes no sense. If someone played as a Horde character in WoW, being an evil race and evil faction, that doesn't make them an evil person IRL. We're talking ROLE-PLAYING GAMES here. It's not real friend.

I blame Captain Jack Sparrow.
I think the difference between venture capitalists- who by nature, believe in the product, and someone who snatches up an IPO is passion. |
