Aiya all, My first month (+ the trial period) on EVE is near its end, and I have a question.
As my English is what it is, I must recon that I didn't even bother reading the contract (EULA?). Here is the question: Does the fee I pay, is used for EVE and just EVE, or is it used for some other games of CCP as well?
Voila, I hope you get my point and the sense of the moral contract I speak about. I wouldn't like to pay for something I don't use.
I fear this has been discussed all ready in the past. But I didn't find anything, probably because I was in trouble to formulate my search. Please, link, or answer. If someone from the staff can take the time it would better of course.
Don't get it wrong, I am optimistic about the answer, as for me it is quite obvious that all is well proof to avoid a global sink. Sorry for the boat structure clichT. Just the fact I didn't came down with the last shower explains the creation of this topic, and my willing for a clear answer.
Cordially.

CCP is also developing World of Darkness and DUST 514. Their main income comes from EVE subscriptions.
But I don't your reasoning.
If you like the game then what do you bother about any other things? |

The money has to be used to pay the different charges oki, but the remain, must be used in further development of EVE, not an other game. How that's loud, but I think you didn't get my point so I explain heavily. Sorry If I am wrong.
You get free expansions twice a year, awesome community, great internet spaceship pew pew and lots of fun plus the (imo believable) promise of CCP not to abandon EVE for any time soon (and soon means 50 years or so, they are Icelanders after all ).
If they snatch a little bit of the money to do some fun stuff, fine with me! |

Of course its true. If you go buy milk at the store, do you complain if the store owner uses your money to buy fruit? Once you hand over the money, its not your money any more.

What you are basically asking is for a developer/publisher of a game to only spend money that it earns from one title back into that single title... am i correct?
It would be the same as asking Rockstar (developers of Grand Theft Auto) to only spend their money on Grand Theft Auto.. (Which would also remove LA Noire, Bully/Canis Canum Edit and various other small titles).
Another similar example is asking Gearbox Software (well known for Borderlands on the PC/console market) to not spend *any* money they earned from it, on developing Duke Nukem (or infact any other future title).
Its not going to happen.
About the only way that this would *ever* happen is by having each game title set up as a totally seperate *financial* entity... and by not having CCP hf. putting *any* money towards it.
Granted, if that happened... then some of the "big name" developers/publishers past and present (BioWare, Electronic Arts, Bullfrog, Lionhead Studios, Interplay, Bungie (they were around before Halo was developed), Rockstar, NCsoft, Netdevil, Cryptic Studios) would not be around in any shape or form to entertain us now.

May I ask what is the objection to CCP using their money for whatever they wish?
At the end of the day if you think that Eve is good value for money then pay a subscription. If you don't then don't pay them.

Just look at the constant additions and polish they have been doing. If you are new, the only thing i can tell you is keep paying, you will soon see where your money is going. It's going into EVE. Even Dust 514 is going to be an EVE product. At some point, in the future, maybe we'll be transporting DUST soldiers into sov to storm stations, planets, POS'es. Who knows.
Just pay, play, and watch. This is the only game where i've seen my cash put to work... and enjoyed it.
DEV Team, and all of CCP (even the donut guy/gal), you folks are doing a ROCKING JOB. Thank you.

your perspective is screwed up. when you give CCP the money to play EvE, it's up to them what they do with it. You don't pay a fee for them to spend on EvE, you pay a fee to be able to PLAY EvE. What they do with the money is up to them.

And it matters ....why?
Do you ask your butcher or grocer what the money you pay him goes on? Does your supermarket get letters from you asking where all the moneys goes?

Of course NOT. The fee you pay for EVE goes to CCP, which own EVE. They use the money any way they see fit. _

So when you work for a company, does the money they pay you go only to making things better for the company? Or do you buy cars, clothes, beer, hookers, etc?
What you are buying is the right to play Eve. You are paying them for services rendered. What they spend that money on is their business.
When they stop giving you the value in services for the value of the money you give them, then stop paying/playing.

Yes, That's right.
The fact I invest of my time in a game, drove me to the point I thought that I invest some of my money for its future evolution. But it is wrong of course. A nice ideal idea for sure, but more an open source concerns project. An utopia, oh what was the name of that english guy by the way? I always forget.
Definitely, it is not like a meeting of different owners of a building or a corporation of independent workers putting money together for the future. Thanks for saying, I know that will do not please everyone, but that's the crude(?) reality, it is a consumer product. Point.
With Dust514, I see the perspective. Is that for PC too? Hell we never had anymore console here since ps1, the last time I saw it, my husband was using it to support the swingarm of is bike :x Ow, we have a kind of respect for these old ladies, but that's it.
The problem in Iceland, of what I remember, is that these people are same as those here, Savoy (french alps), they won't talk much, before time has come to speak. For us to know more, it would cost a lot of the finest booze(?)
Oh and no, it is not an anti anything thingie or troll or what ever some would. We are not all, mind twisted, some resist you see.

For the past few years your Eve subscription has not been "Software as a service" but has instead been taken out of the project and invested into other unrelated products.
Do not subscribe to EveOnline expecting your money to fund further development.
Any work CCP do on Eve within the next 2 years is a smoke screen. Very limited dev just to give the impression of movement.
