This is starting to clarify... We can't opt out captains quarters just because bringing the aur shop to our face is main priority.
If we could opt out CQ, the platform where AUR is used would be hidden and people would spend less iskies/money to accesories.
Money talks, customers walk.

b) it is an unreasonable ASSUMPTION considering that CCP has explicitly stated, over and over and over, that MT will not have an impact on gameplay. Even in the dev thread it sounds like he is not to excited about accessorizing.
Stop and think for a moment, ok? Noble and earnest promises to NEVER EVER sell game-changing items via the AUR shop aside, CCP is doing this for the cash, nothing more and nothing less. The lure for more cash will push that envelope. That is the ONLY reasonable assumption.

no, what you making is a guess on how CCP's business model will change. That guess is influenced by you attitude toward the company, as is mine. I believe they will do as they say as it makes sense from a business model perspective

Or CCP is doing to this as a means of gathering data on how to manage MTs in WoD?
IMO, the vanity items available in the AUR are to a) get experience with designing them, and b) to get a feel for their value. The Eve AUR, CQ, etc. are simply technology prototypes destined for WoD and being tested in Eve. (And the resulting WoD avatar based combat and general MMO world (cities, shops, etc.) will be back-ported to Eve.)
I don't think that selling game-changing items via AUR would bring in additional players and would in fact annoy existing subscribers. AUR game changing items would probably bring in some additional revenue from the existing player base, but I doubt CCP would risk upsetting the Eve cash cow for limited gains.

PLEX prices in RL cash are stable, less so in (game, not RL) ISK.
Just remember: AUR and (game) ISK are currencies under the control of CCP. Once you convert your ú/Ç/$ into AUR or ISK, you no longer own it.

CCP risk upsetting the existing player base? LOL
Then you have a much higher opinion of CCP's risk calculus than I do. CCP makes a sport out of ****ing off its userbase. This is the sunset plan for Eve .. move into a nice MT-hybrid model while the new shiny MMO is getting ready in the stable.
