So... what you guys think?
Me no, actually, likey. Won't it catalyze PLEX market so much that it will radically affect in-game PLEX prices?

Edited by: Black Dranzer on 27/05/2011 13:30:15 I don't like microtransactions. I've never liked microtransactions. I accept them as an inevitability, but I'm not going to cheer their arrival. Even if it's true that the money made from microtransactions will go back into making the game better, it has to make the game so much better that it makes up for the fact that it is now a game with microtransactions.
The cynic in me believes that the main benefit of this change will be to pad the wallets of investors.

I think it sucks.
New currency? Are you kidding? Aurum = real money. (even if player can buy plex with isks). It looks like a donate in stupid mmo (even if those items won't bring disbalance to game). Something like "gold bars", "crystals" etc.
Why not to make it as another part of market? Just add new category, name it ANTIQUARY or anyhow... And sell those items for isk. Just set big prices, but... PLEASE DO NOT ADD NEW CURRENCY.
I'll lose my respect to CCP. Do not become same not smart donatable mmo!!!

lol, lose all your respect for ccp...over this. As the dev said, if this is popular, its going to need people to design new things. This would either take away from eve (i think a vast majority would not want to see less people focusing on game play) or require more people on deck to program. To pay those people you either a)make everyone pay by rolling it into the subscription or b) make the people who want it pay through MT. MT has my vote.
As for putting it on the market, you are removing the actual money this requires. It could be on the market if we pay for it with subscriptions, but I don't want that to happen. -------------------------------------------------

Or if they can't afford to hire some devs, they could always allow players to create clothing.
But there wouldn't be any profit in that.

At the currently hype-inflated prices ? No, thanks. I'd rather wait until this stuff actually goes live and people realize just how laughable it is and PLEX prices drop back down again. _

But there wouldn't be any profit in that.
Leaving aside the technical nightmare of content creation tools for the playerbase. And then the problem of advertising unique items available only at certain stations. Would need a new market window of some sort.
But that sounds like what they're doing ... There's the Eve player driven economy and now there's a parallel economy and currency that won't effect gameplay. But allowing players to create items necessarily merges the two. Trainwreck.

I don't like microtransactions in a MMO that already collects monthly payments. Best idea would be letting players manufacture clothing which would actually add a new layer to ingame economy.

Yeah, here was me thinking a whole bunch of content would come from the vampire game into eve. New ground missions, coop pve, pvp, exploration etc. It looked like the future could hold station battles, ship bridges and such. I was looking forward to it. But somehow CCP turned that around.
How CCP's management twisted this into a huge negative, is hard to understand. It must have taken quite some brainpower. But once again they snatched fail from the jaws of win. 'I know, let's charge people a buck for a monacle, and a buck fifty for a pink space ship!'
I can only speak for myself, but there is no way on earth I am paying twice for a game. I have a budget and I am sticking to it. And I will not be gimped in a game after paying a sub. Guess I'll be getting pushed elsewhere. Shame, because there's a lot about eve I liked.

a) post with your main so we can settle this. Or we can continue to battle it out forum warrior style. I assume you will choose the latter. b) it is an unreasonable ASSUMPTION considering that CCP has explicitly stated, over and over and over, that MT will not have an impact on gameplay. Even in the dev thread it sounds like he is not to excited about accessorizing.

This is starting to clarify... We can't opt out captains quarters just because bringing the aur shop to our face is main priority.
If we could opt out CQ, the platform where AUR is used would be hidden and people would spend less iskies/money to accesories.

Stop and think for a moment, ok? Noble and earnest promises to NEVER EVER sell game-changing items via the AUR shop aside, CCP is doing this for the cash, nothing more and nothing less. The lure for more cash will push that envelope. That is the ONLY reasonable assumption.

no, what you making is a guess on how CCP's business model will change. That guess is influenced by you attitude toward the company, as is mine. I believe they will do as they say as it makes sense from a business model perspective

Or CCP is doing to this as a means of gathering data on how to manage MTs in WoD?
IMO, the vanity items available in the AUR are to a) get experience with designing them, and b) to get a feel for their value. The Eve AUR, CQ, etc. are simply technology prototypes destined for WoD and being tested in Eve. (And the resulting WoD avatar based combat and general MMO world (cities, shops, etc.) will be back-ported to Eve.)
I don't think that selling game-changing items via AUR would bring in additional players and would in fact annoy existing subscribers. AUR game changing items would probably bring in some additional revenue from the existing player base, but I doubt CCP would risk upsetting the Eve cash cow for limited gains.

PLEX prices in RL cash are stable, less so in (game, not RL) ISK.
Just remember: AUR and (game) ISK are currencies under the control of CCP. Once you convert your ú/Ç/$ into AUR or ISK, you no longer own it.

CCP risk upsetting the existing player base? LOL
Then you have a much higher opinion of CCP's risk calculus than I do. CCP makes a sport out of ****ing off its userbase. This is the sunset plan for Eve .. move into a nice MT-hybrid model while the new shiny MMO is getting ready in the stable.
