Because before this was there, people would put useless bpo's in slots for 30 days to reserve slots. If they needed a slot they'd take one down and put in the bpo they wanted researched. As you know ccp's competence, the same "fix" was applied across the board to pos labs/factories as well.

well, now they still can put a useless bpo for 30 and cancel it right away just to **** ppl off... this 'fix' doesnt work.
oh, and i own POS myself and was pretty damn surprised when slot didnt get release.
CCCP, fix that for at least POS labs, will you?
thanks in advance

That's just the way it works.
CCP will not get any more clear than that.
My guess is that they do this to stop people from hoarding slots in Station slots.
Imagine this. You have a spare capital bpo. Your wanting to up the stats on a battleship bpo.
You install the battleship bpo, and then USING THE SAME SLOT install the capital bpo. That slow is now queued up for months. When your Battleship bpo is done, you reinstall it in the SAME slot again, Then drop your capital bpo. Instantly your battleship bpo now has a slot to work in (no waiting). Perhaps I am wrong, and it's just something that they dont wish to spend the time fixing, but that is my best guess on the matter.
Something else you should all know. Filling a stations slots (and dropping the job) for griefing is something ccp WILL GIVE YOU A TEMP BAN FOR DOING. Ask me how I know ;P......

- yes, but i dont care about stations. i ment for POS only. pos has an owner and he alone can deal with lack of slots problem.

- hehe, good one. cheers

I think that you have to repackage the lab too to free the slots, but I'm not sure about it.

Yeah I couldn't recall that either, wouldn't hurt to take it back to station, repack it and then redeploy it

Wow. Never thought of that. Must mean I'm not very good at this griefing thing. I will have to try it out in a small region to see if I can book all slots for a year.

occam's razor. can we have a free slot at the pos' lab after aborting job instead of that convoluted path of thoughts of yours?
seriously. it's a pos. someone is in charge. i this case i am :]. i dont wonna do **** after canceling one job and starting another. i dont wonna unanchor my lab, drag it to nearest station for re-bloody-pack and then take it back to pos, anchor, online... blablabla. i want, simply, take a beer, start a new job and relax.
is it doable in XXI century on Earth or do i expect too much from CCCP?

Is it too much for you to at least figure out if you actually want to put the blueprint in research?
It's a freaking POS, add more labs if you need the slots.

I am not exactly sure what are you asking.
"Is this possible using the current game mechanics?" No, it isn't.
"Could a game nechanic be created allowing me to do this?" Possibly. But then the right place to ask would be Features & Ideas. ---

While it is true that you own your own labs, and you should be able to drop orders and have the queue reset itself, not everyone who runs corp/alliance labs does it as a solo operation. If you have 80 people in the alliance fighting for a lab slot then the same condition I described above could apply if they start fighting for labs. ----------- Never Forget the joy of finding a main to link to a scammer alt. ...that's why you have dirs in each corp to handle those things. as i said : it's internal matter of each corp to handle their labs. it's no CCCP's business tbh how ppl run corps.
anyway, if somehow any mod is reading it, please kick it to 'Features and Ideas' if you will. thanks in advance.

For future reference, you might want to keep the following in mind:
CCP: Iceland-based game development company, notable for EVE Online.
CCCP: Acronym of the erstwhile Soviet Union, the anglicised Russian form of USSR.

this acronym is based on my 7 years experience with that corporation, hence CCCP, but nevertheless, thx for a free bump.

So what you're saying is that you're not ignorant, you're stupid. Thanks for clearing that up.
(Not least because: seven years, and you haven't yet learned how to read a warning popup? Because you totally get one when you cancel a research job, and it tells you that it won't free up the slot.)
Protip: The Soviet Union collapsed twenty years ago. It's probably a little late for satire.

- anything to back up your claims, mate?

- "...you totally get one" i totally get one? what are you twelve to use word totally in such context? FYI : i did notice that pop up, but i couldnt believe my eyes and had to test it. it's not that i had any loss because of that. it's because i own that pos, pay for fuel, manage it and i want to be in control of toys i pay for.
Protip: The Soviet Union collapsed twenty years ago. It's probably a little late for satire.
- this sentence is actualy the weakest of them all but i will try. i dont know... jesus died a long time ago too yet ppl sometimes tell jokes which refer to him. i dont know. your last sentence is invalid and it's too hot here to try to explaint to you so try on your own, will ya?

"Satire is primarily a literary genre or form, although in practice it can also be found in the graphic and performing arts. In satire, vices, follies, abuses, and shortcomings are held up to ridicule, ideally with the intent of shaming individuals, and society itself, into improvement. Although satire is usually meant to be funny, its greater purpose is often constructive social criticism, using wit as a weapon."
no one said that satire (sarcasm, irony) can only be used in context to living individuals, present phenomena, etc.
my advice to you : dont use words you cant fully understand.
cheers

Yes you do have to repackage it before you re-anchor it, if you dont the slot doesnt get cleared.
