Hi guys just a quick one from a returning player. I got my Ferox blown away by a fighter jock in a Frigate he locked up my warp and then just slowly took my ship apart. I could not hit him with my med rails my rapid launcher did not even dent him and he killed all five of my light drones. Anything I could have done? |

Probably not - Railguns are extremely poor at close range and unless you had a web your missile would have done little to no damage. Do you have a lossmail for your fit? It would help us tell what went on! I write a blog. I think people read it. http://throughnewbeyes.wordpress.com

Scram and/or web to slow him down enough to hit him. Maybe a tracking enhancer/ computer if you have a spare slot.
But it sounds like you fit you ship for one thing, and found another - basically the fight was over once you undocked. Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. |

Sounds like you just got caught in a bad match-up. Apart from ending aggression and then jumping or docking (if you were close enough to a station or gate), you probably couldn't have done a thing. There's a bunch of modules that can help in this exact situation but many of them will make your overall fit less than optimal in many others. So it's all about knowing what your ship does best and trying to steer the situation towards that. It doesn't always happen...but when it does... mmmm <3 CCP Guard | EVE Community Developer |-á@ccp_guard |

Blaster Ferox is a very nice ship indeed so for sure try it. Tracking enhancer[s] is/are needed for that extra range and don't be afraid to use null ammo.
Alot of players use the buffer Ferox but an active shield tanked Ferox is where its at.
The issue you had was as explained above, railguns are so terribly under balanced when compared to all other races large weapons yet CCP still wont do a thing about them even after the "buff" to them.
The Rifter can and did orbit you at will, without being hit due to its speed, tiny signature and tight orbit [ I'm guessing he orbited in this occasion ] and the fact that big weapons track slower than smaller.
As a general rule smaller ships have a breeze with bigger ships because of what I stated above.
What you should do in this situation is put T2 warriors on him, kited him used blasters to destroy him using a web if he gets close enough.
Perhaps use a medium energy nuet in a high slot, frigs hate that. |

You're more upbeat about this than most.... what's going on here? "A genius throws a Molotov cocktail and soon realizes that he's going to die choking in a maze of smoke and flame. You're doing it now, and doing it well. Take your lumps and learn from them.
In this case, micromanaging your drones (recalling them as he starts doing damage to them, then sending them back out) could prolong the fight, giving you more time to call for backup (or maybe making him run out of ammo, unlikely as that is).
ECM drones could have let you slip his lock and warp off.
But in the end, you had a long range ship caught up close and personal by a short range ship. You lost the fight when you got tackled.
You could get a BlasteRox with a web or two and go back. Hopefully the guy will assume you're stupid (often a safe assumption) and you'll be able to tackle him before he realizes his mistake. EvE: Everyone vs Everyone

I seem to recall somthing like this hapening to my first harbinger, years back. I would just do what i did and move along to your next one (ferox in your case). For me it was a learning experience, so its not a complete loss. |

DOA to that fight by the sounds of it.
It comes down to what you're fit for and what he is. If you aren't fit to fight that frigate (scram, web, blasters, tracking enhancers, light drones etc.) then what you needed to do was avoid that fight in the first place.
Use your directional scanner, check local, be aware of everyone around you. If you see a ship that you're not equipped to deal with then you need to make sure you're not caught in the first place.
Either that, or have friends close by. A while ago I killed a Myrm whilst in an Ishkur and it took almost 20mins for him to die but, as in your case, he had no means to fight back once I'd shot his drones down. |

Pull the drones in before he can kill them. If he is targeting drones the next time you launch them it will take a few seconds to get them locked up so they'll get a shot or 2 off before you have to pull them again. Try pullin and pushin them one at a time, too if they aren't dieing that fast.
Not much ya can do but at least making him target hobs 100 times is annoying. |

Medium Neut. Be ready to warp off when the cycle hits and his point turns off. That is why, when possible, fit a neut. The missile launcher(s) you had instead add so little dps overall since the guns are you main weapon that the neut wins over them possibly 95% of the time. If you could fit launcher(s) then a neut should not be that hard to fit. |

This.
If the fit is vulnerable enough to neuting (or if the pilot panics when he sees his modules turning off) you might even have killed him, otherwise you can just warp off. It's 1000x better than a rapid launcher |

X-L ASB is the way to go solo. Blaster asb Ferox is a mean little beast that can punch quite above its weight and has means to deal with frigates too. Just copy this fit. http://eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=14128497 |

Several comments to add to this thread:
1.) A frigate can orbit under most medium guns, especially railguns. A good frigate pilot will also get under the tracking of medium autocannons and blasters... especially since the ferox doesn't receive a Tracking bonus!!! And 425 autocannons track like crap against frigates.... I'd **** that Autocannon Ferox fit with my taranis!!!!
2.) A medium Neut is a VERY good idea... although it won't work very well if the frigate fits a NOS. You can still get out, but the trick is to cap yourself out using your own neut, so he can't pull cap from you with his nos.... This is tricky... after you cap out, you make sure you align and spam neut so you neut the instant you have just enough cap... then you spam warp.... and hope the timing falls into place.... I once engaged a cynabal in my ranis, ate his drones, and had him into structure when he performed this maneuver to escape...
3.) Drones are easily destroyed by a competent frigate pilot, especially when they are flying a t2 frig. EC-300's actually work well to escape the initial tackle... but it's chance based and won't always work. Make sure you align before releasing them, and be prepared to warp as soon as they get a jam...
4.) If you are actually trying to WIN in a ferox vs a frigate hull, rather than just escape, you should have the smallest medium guns possible (dual 180's or electron blaster cannons), a scram, a web (or two is even better), and a neut (or two).... A tracking enhancer also helps, and if you hit them with EC-300's too, their pretty much SOL.
