haha, remember the days of 486 or Pentium 66-100 where a mp3 realy did take resources :)

Its been down to me for a few days too. Tried pinging it via dns and came up with the ip addy, but either way its down, request timed out, so server would appear to be down rather then routing or dns issues from me to them.
I needs my fix too, so fixxerz it please!!:)

If they made the Object Explorer downloadable, I'm sure the EVE-I server would get hammered a lot less

I have heard a rumor that EVE-i may not be comingback up at all.. due to CCP shutting them down.. ok i will eleaborate and explain what my sources have said , and plz note that none of these "sources" are employees of ccp therfore take this info for what its worth, a rumor.
I was told that CCP wasnt very happy about the fact that EVE-i made the games npcing quite easy as in, as a survey i conducted, most people find having the information they provide readily avaliable is cheating.. I personally find it as doing research into an aspect of the game and protecting your assets through information.
But we are off subject. Do to the content of eve-i i have been told ccp MAY and i repeat MAY be able to shut down eve-i infinitly. i will personally be looking this up with some atturney friends of mine, who will forgive me for spelling that wrong. If and when i have more information i will post it for those of you that are concerned by eve-i's being gone.
Disclaimer: nothing conatined in this post has been confirmed or denied and as such is in the realm of rumor or gossip. Please do not make any judgments based on my information alone.
And if any of the devs or admins want to confirm orr deny any information they are more than welcome to.

completely wrong
afaik the server is technically 'kaput' as all sites hosted on it are dead. We have never been 'censored' by CCP and everything we did was with their knowledge.

how hard would it be to have a back up server and redirect to it when main server has problems?

Hard, no. Costly, yes. Eve-I solicits donations, so I'd assume it doesn't have huge amounts of cash to chuck at the problem...

on that part I have no idea, Eve-I does involve two servers (Eve-I has a dedicated server) as part of a hosting package iirc but Dancer or Kreischweide are really the ones to speak to on that as I am just a front end person with not much knowledge of the backend stuff, and Dancer is really the only one who can talk to the host or correct what has gone wrong.
I know the site was struggling to cope with the load of past week's unscheduled downtimes, which ate a tonne of bandwidth has people spammed the server watcher (and it actually broke) but as to the cause of this most recent downtime I can only speculate atm as to why the server is either broke/disconnected etc.

With EVE-I down there is basicaly no source of information, a la object explorer.
Where did you get that information from, is it possible for anyone to pull the information out of the client or what? If so how, since theres a fair few bits that were in the object explorer that I could really use to see again

aye it is no obex but it's still something. Guess you can find most of the information there in the item database at eve-online anyway. I miss EVE-I to __________ Capacitor research |

With regards to the object explorer, it's not like CCP gave this information to EVE-DB/EVE-I is it? So there must be a way that anyone can get this information, right?

perhaps a full database needs to be created updated and made available on an online basis to all players - it would take soem time so perhaps over a 6 month period incremental updates could be made to it. Starting at the lower level skills goods etc and work up ?
