me too, shame that the eve physics aren't as nice as the Elite physics, but it's certainly the best MMO space game... in fact the best MMO I've encountered

In Fall 2005 I was waiting breathlessly for LotRO to come out, theoretically the next Spring, and I got a laptop that was hot for its day. I asked my son if there was anything graphics-intensive that I could try it out on to make sure the NVIDIA card was working, and he pointed me to the free trial of EVE. It was gorgeous! LotRO actually started up in early 2007, and here I am.

Back in 2002 (I think) Planetarion started charging and I thought "I'm not paying for a game with no graphics and little in the way of depth" so looked for something more immersive with graphics. Stumbled on to Eve Online Beta and got in

I bought a morning newspaper, and there was little article about eve online.
I ve start being courious , if its comparable to Elite or Freelancer.
With both i still had a lot of fun in the past.
With the first hour of playing Eve, the interest grows endless what could be possible.
My creativity, and Imagination grows , same as i ve start reading the first books of Isaac Asimov or Stanislav Lem 16 years before.
It pushed the interest in sci-fi. |

Took two tries for me to get stuck with eve. First time was right before dreads was released. Second time was early 2006 I think. And it was because eve was different and I was looking for something to get me away from wow. Didn't really expect to stick around this long but damn, I aint seeing myself unsubbing(permanently) anytime soon. |

Early 2005 in the break room....
Buddy: "Hey man, you ever play any on line games, like EvE?"
Me: "Nope, never have played any on-line games."
Buddy: " Well you want to give it a try? I need some help, I need someone to shoot the rats while I mine."
Me: "Wait, how big are these f'ing rats?"
Buddy: "They can get huge!! and the bounties can be great"
Me: "Bounties on rats? WTF kind of game is this?"
At this point I am realizing that he needs help in some video game, to shoot hairy rats as he digs for pixels. So in my mind I am in a dark cave shooting hairy rats, while my buddy digs. I thought, meh, sure I like to shoot ****.
Buddy: "The game?!, Yeah it kind of complicated. But it is really cool, there is corporations, pirates, massive wars and bunch of other cool stuff."
Me: "Wait, how does rats and massive wars connect?"
Buddy: "Just give it a try, what is the worst thing that can actually happen?"

Also, I'd like to point out that I got into EVE because I really liked the X games - X: Beyond the Frontier, X2: The Threat, X3: Reunion and X3: Terran Conflict. |

Was stuck in bed and then housebound for a bit longer than sanity would allow, and while surfing in general I ran across an advert for the game.
Downloaded it, gave it a go on the 14 day trial, subbed on day 3 and never looked back.
Been doin' it wrong every day ever since.
Honestly, I've never had so much fun failing so miserably at a game.
I do hope that you have made a full and permanent recovery and I do like your comments on your in-game performance. Sort of matches mine really... |

A very enthusiastic ex-housemate of mine played EVE and first got me interested in EVE waaay back in 2004 on a trial, but it wasn't until the middle of 2005 that I acquired a PC of my own on which to play. I didn't even bother with the 2 week trial, I just signed up straight away and haven't looked back since. |

Back in 2006, I was a regular on the Battlefront forums, and one day someone mentioned Eve. I asked what that was, and they said, you don't really want to know, you'll be hooked for life...........and I was! |

I dont know what exactly got me into EVE but I know what keeps me coming back. I can literally do what ever in $%&* I want when ever I want, it just takes a few hours of training and poof now I do it. Granted im a hodge podge character but I love it. |

Back in 2003 i played Jumpgate when there was 2 servers : european under Mightygames license and the US one under Netdevil license. Then, european got closed and the way to play in US one didn't please to me. So homeless space game player i went to Beta eve, then retail .. and since that time i've never left the game ! |

I started with my main back in 2008, in May, I had a holiday and wanted to play some new mmo. My first subscription mmo ever. I chose EVE. And haven't stopped since :) Out of all the competition, only eve seemed to have a complex economy, everything-player made was the final touch to make me wanna subscribe :)

I was an avid EVE forum reader way before playing EVE. I was hooked by all the drama, politics, market playing and theorycraft I found here. I made several Trial accounts over 3 or 4 years but the learning skills felt just wrong. When they announced the removal of the learning skills I decided to give EVE a serious try, until now.

Jumpgate (US) OEC/AQM/The Dark Path - fun game with a good player base. Guys in my squad all signed up to fly Amarr under the OEC banner back before the beta even launched. When I got in on the Medusa beta I knew I would be hooked!!!
Now 8+ years later - 3 active accounts and I'm still playing.
And with Dust on the horizon my social life is totaly ****ed...

Saw some stuff about it in the gamer edition of the 2008 world record book. There some cool stuff on EVE and I was facinated. I decided to check it out and now here I am.

Way back around 2000 I played a space MMO few have probably heard of called Mankind. It was crap, but as a scifi junkie I had to try it. I didn't have money to subscribe to it, so after the 30 day trial it was over for me. I got my MMO fix with Ultima Online free shards for a while, then moved into WoW. I still missed the scifi genre though. I was looking for something else to play other then wow and a friend of mine told me about this weird scifi game called EVE. He told me him and his business partner ran a space station in eve making money, which they used to fund their pvp activities. He wanted me to join his corp and help them run the station. Not really being big on PvP, and not really wanting to spend money for yet another game, I decided not to join him. Eventually I decided to give it a go, though he had quit a few weeks earlier and could no longer get me into the corp he was in. Perhaps that was for the best though, as he was a goonie. The shame!

I saw an article about virtual worlds in New scientist, then saw a google ad on the internets and took the 14 day trial... Wont happen again though, I have all those adds blocked now.

I bought my 1st computer in 1984 (a BBC B) just to play Elite, still the big daddy of all space games! Saw Eve for the 1st time in beta but didn't have time to play much then tried it again in 2007 and have been totally hooked since then.

My best friend who had played the beta bought me a copy of Eve for my 35th birthday which was 2 days before it went live. I logged in for the first time on the 2nd day the game was live, and seem to have been permanently logged in since. My friend created his character about 2h after I made mine, and he's still playing as well, and a member of my corp.

I was aware of the game in 2005. In 2006 I got my first credit card, so this was what really got me into EvE. The credit card. I could not get a trial for some reason unknown.
A space MMO site inspired me as I was a fan X-series. X-tension, X-2, etc... The single player environment was boring, and I looked for real human pirates and PvP.
I learnt that in EVE pvp favours numbers over tactics. Making it less likely to win in 1 vs more fight. I also learnt that missiles sucked.
