I agree on most of your observations, but that doesn't change the fact that what Israel is currently doing is wrong. While the jews have indeed been on the wrong end of the beating stick throughout history, it doesn't make it right when they do it to others and Israel as a nation shouldn't be treated differently from any other nation. Arab states should be held accountable for their actions and so should Israel.
Israel was forced on arabs without their concent and their land was stolen and is being stolen even today. Israel is standing firmly on the throats of the palestinias and they still complain that there can be no talk of peace because the suffocating people of palestine are still impotently stuggling a little against their oppressor's bootheel. Point being Israel is sowing even more seeds of desperation and anger, and any nation with any pride would try to oppose the situation to the best of their ability. That struggle leads to excesses, but it's not like they have other alternatives besides totally submitting to every Israeli demand.
I don't hold Israel solely responsible for the current situation and there is enough historical grievances between the two to justify a few generations of retaliation strikes on both sides, but it's still Israel that is in total control now and they are content in just tightening the already tight stranglehold they have on the palestinians and leaving them to their suffering, while actively preventing others from helping them either. That is not a sustainable path to take. The only two long term options available is the unacceptable final solution or creating a painful peace treaty that creates two viable neighboring states.
I think Israel knows this, but religion, politics and fear is preventing them from acting on it. Religion because it is very strong influence in Israel and it can be used to justify all methods they do. It won't convince everyone, but it will be enough for many and more importantly the most important consideration for those people. Politics because a peace treaty and likely painful negotiations with high risk of failure will mean the death of your political career. Finally fear, since Israel knows it's doing a terrible wrong and as a consequence there now exist a violent hate towards them in the hearts of many arabs.
I'm sure Israel wants to let go, so no more hate is created and they can have long term security and non-hostile neighbours, but that will also mean letting go of their stranglehold which is ensuring their own security now. Understandably they don't dare to risk letting go of that stranglehold. Problems are that it's being partly payed for by the USA and would become increasingly difficult to maintain without that backing and the simple fact that it's going to happen sooner or later one way or the other. While it will indeed be risky to let go voluntarily with some unavoidable deaths resulting from it, it's going to be an absolute disaster for them if the people they oppress can ever gain enough force to remove that stranglehold themselves. If that happens, those few unavoidable deaths can potentially turn to full scale bloodbath on both sides.
