Hi
Caught in a situation where iam not rich enough for a tengu ( budget of around 700 mil plus ) but can easily fly and afford to lose a drake.
So are there anything effective in between .. then I turned my thoughts to a NH .. would cost 1/3 of a tengu and i could still recover if i got ganked.
Also they have some nice bonus for frigate killing. ( btw would some Painter drones help ? )
As well as you might be able to squeeze a Shield Harmoniser Link in ? ( might drain the cap )
Is it a good or crazy thought and why ?

I am by no means a wormhole expert but 700 mil is enough for a tengu. You can even throw on a few cheap factions mods.
I'm pretty sure that the tengu>nighthawk because it does more dps and while it its tank is smaller on paper its small sig and much
faster speed make it tank more overall.
Of course I just reactivated yesterday to find out that my beloved NC has been killed by Russians so I could be dead wrong.

Edited by: Obooz on 06/06/2011 08:55:08 Edited by: Obooz on 06/06/2011 08:54:42 I personally fly a tengu fitted for 450mil isk, in a class 5. But it is dependant on remote reps from other ships.
Am I right in assuming you are wanting to solo the class 3? In that case I would go for a nighthawk for several reasons.
Even though the tengu has smaller sig and better velocity, you normally see yourself being webbed mots of the time doing combat sites. So the speed is not possible to factor in. Neuting - A good Tengu is an active tengu, probably not the most neuting in a class 3, but there still is some, and depending on skills and modules, you'll have to fit accordingly. If you wanna passive tank, you should alwyas choose a nighthawk over a Tengu. Which brings me to;
Nighthawk can easily be fit to passive tank 1300 dps or above (iirc). Make sure you have t2 Heavy Missile Launchers and swap between Scourge Fury (anything above frigates) and Scourge Precision (frigates and turrets)
So yer, if you are alone in a class 3, I would choose the Nighthawk over the Tengu any day.

When I lived in C3 I watched a nighthawk work tougher site ... no problems solo. He wasn't quick tho.
A drake will be ok for the easy half of the C3 selection, but unless your skills are very good it will have trouble tanking the tougher few. Tengu no probs, and in C3 a not-too-terribly-expensive T2 tengu be fine.
Target painters help too. When we dual-boxing, using cruise missiles, there's always a flight of TP drones helping.

i agree about the nighthawk. though the tengu can field a ridiculous tank, to do so means that 1. your tengu gets very very expensive, and 2. active tank. though c3's dont neut as heavily as anything above that, it neuts enough to get you into trouble, especially if you use a T2 fit. nighthawks on the other hand have massive tanks and dont actually do that much less damage then a tengu.

You cant afford the tengu? Make a drake for the day and clear the 2 weakest anomalies.
Now you can afford the tengu you want. . Adapt and overcome or become a monkey on an evolution poster.
