CCP is not the first company to connect the PC and PS3
Portal 2 had co-op where you could play with a pc-ps3 combo first.

But this is the first time 2 different games have interracial relations

Which is not what the CEO said on the alliance tournament video feed.
And it's still on the same shard.
If you ask me, portal 2 is more ground breaking because you can interact with the ps3 through the pc directly, not through some numbers and a different game entirely, but with the same game.

Actually I it was the PS2 not the PS3 that linked PC gaming and the Playstation gamers together. Good ol Final Fantasy (I think it was 10) combined the PC players and the PS2 players on the same server and game. I remember that the game came preinstalled on a hard drive for the PS2 and unless u had a keyboard for the PS2 u couldn't comminicate with the PC players in your group.

I have to disagree as well. Dust 514 is cross-platform while also being a merge of two different games, which is a first. Nobody has ever done that before, though I can think of many Cross platform Co-op's with a lot of games. Halo, Battlefield, etc.. I don't think CCP is making any claim to that, though there might be some impression they are depending on how they make that statement.

+1 for smart-assery
-1 for not recognising that this is not about cross platform gaming but a coherence between different games on different platforms which has never been achieved before.

Ahem...
CCP is the first company in the world that will have 2 different games that will have influences on each other.
Other examples mention in this post, like FF11, Portal 2 and some other games, still are the same game on different platforms.
The only example that comes close to it, is an idea from novalogic (back in 2000 if i'm correct) to combine armored fist and comance (tank and helicopter warsim) to play on the same server. As far I know that never happen.

First company with a big budget and backing from a major console producer is not the same as first ever.
I remember BBS games that had plugins driven by mail. Those plugins could only be played via the bbs mail systems, but they did interact with the actual door game.

I don't think that's what he said or meant. It's the first time an MMO has been directly connected to another game in this way, not that it's the first game to combine the PC with PS3.
