CCP, seriously, these guys are a joke. All they know is how to DDoS. Get your defences in place. You have the information from last night and advanced warning, I will be upset if you take the servers down for a simple DDoS attack again.

Taking down the server in the face of such an attack is their best possible defense at this point in time, given that different attack vectors can be used (different network peers, different botnet-connected computers, etc.) Also, this thread will be damage-controlled. Probably T2.

Why do you think they took out minecraft? Because they knew it would cause a ton of idiot kids to moan and whine all over the place, and they'd get to laugh at it. And guessing by the twitter post i dont think eve is getting DDoS'd this time.

True, this is the culture that has been cultivated on EVE. Difference now is that the griefing has been taken out of game and into RL.

The long term consequences of a successful attack are bad enough that I really don't mind not playing EVE for another night (that is IF they attack again).

It's a nice movie about prison camps and people and the most "touchy" scene is where the inmates are forced to keep their money hidden away inside a metallic cylinders they have to put in their behinds and all the mess they go through while every time they have to take a dump and each time try to hide the cylinder all the while having their hands tied behind their backs... I believe that authorities nowadays have all the hackers they can get and don't do deals anymore with convicted criminals.. Cheers to the dude that suggested this movie in another thread.

They do actually hack **** though. hacking a webserver is not hacking. the cases where they accessed data was due to crap security and afaik only happened to bethesda and sony. the rest were all simple web hacks (iis security sucks)
