Can "compact" compact the like button into a little dot, zero pixels high, zero pixels wide?
don't worry we can still use eve-search which every loves right? http://www.eve-search.com/
oh wait it has the same margins as the new eve-o forums...
well.. uhh. i don't know guess chibbra should change eve-search for you haters. Is that what you're saying?
No. But seeing as you brought it up...
I use eve-search as infrequently as possible because it's kinda ugly and not especially easy to use, so it doesn't matter if it sucks a bit because I don't have to use it every month.
Things I am supposed to use everyday have to have been designed with daily use in mind.
Milk is more expensive than petrol. But you don't run your car on milk, so it doesn't matter.
I'm sure you can find a way to misinterpret this or reinterpret it to suit your needs and I look forward to you doing so.

I'm sure Chribba will love paying CCP $99/year for the privilege of archiving their forums for them in a useable format. So will internetarchive.org, for that matter.
On an unrelated note, is it possible to subscribe to a given person's posts? For example, it'd be nice to keep tabs on some diplomats. --------------------------------------------- "Gate is green. Jump and meet your maker." --Mr Vee

Cannot login to forums or evegate (which used to work just fine) on any of my accounts. Says "This account is not active. Please visit account management to activate."
Login ok to account management pages, both accounts reports as active. New account management pages look pretty, but could use a "Support" link of some sort
EDIT: Evegate works ok from gate.eveonline.com, not from test.evegate.com
I've got the same issue. Started a petition on it.

My initial aesthetic complaints about the forums are gone, as far as I can see, so yay for CCP! I *do* however have a new gripe...
Hovering over a post brings up a little pop-up box that displays the first bit of the post contents which is great, but when I move my mouse that box should disappear, not stay there until I move the mouse pointer outside of that box. Every forum I visit has the pop-up box disappear as soon as the mouse moves 5-10 pixels from where it was, regardless if it goes over the top of the pop-up box or not.
Ok, make it 2 gripes. Once the pop-up box is up, if I just click inside the "thread box" without moving my mouse it doesn't do anything. I have to move my mouse for it to register the click inside the "Thread Box".
Google Chrome, should be easily reproducible and I don't think a bug report is really necessary but I'll file one if you think I need to.

Edited by: Mitchello on 16/06/2011 14:29:45 Ok, serious question. As always, please don't take it the wrong way, it's not a case of :lolcustomers:
Why was the decision made to not choose for a responsive layout, or why was that not an option?
The reason I ask, is because that is not exactly something new. It's a very solid best practice in web design and development, which not only allows you to bypass a multitude of issues in adjusting design to customer behavioral patterns, dealing with expectation management and so forth, but also provides a most beneficial way to prevent having to invest substantial amounts of extra work or even reinventing the wheel once devices become a point of attention.
Something, which I should add, which should already be a point of attention. Think of mobile markets, handheld gaming devices with connectivity, and so forth.
See, all too quickly we get an impression of "style over substance", sometimes even impressions of outdated and commercially invalid doctrines like "if it looks good it is good enough". Which simply makes no business sense whatsoever, nor does it make any sense for the divide between presentation, intended use and actual use.
Maybe that makes it a little more clear, but yeah, the question stands. Ofcourse, I can imagine that by now it is too late for such considerations, but, this has been worked on for quite a while and has been a substantial investment of resources and time. It's just not making any sense, hence the question.

Becuase the people making the forum have nothing to do with CQ....
also yes you need to make it so quick reply and post thingy he talked about.
I know that... but how is it the guys who are testing these new features can manage to post, while those doing incarna can't? If CQ was getting devblogs / devposts then I wouldn't be complaining... But as it isn't, and is coming out in a few days, unlike the new forums, MT paint jobs, or paying for licenses to be able to cover the gaps CCP leaves... which are not coming out in a few days. -------------------------------------------

The new new forums are already much better than the old new forums.
Especially the compact mode and the "hide user" are good features (the first version should have had them to begin with anyway).
Only bad thing? The posts are difficult to read!
Please alternate the color between posts like we have it on this forum here - this increases readability SO MUCH more. One post normal grey color, the other post lighter/darker color. Please!

On a more serious note, it seems the forum settings page is broken on the new forums.
Oh and the lack of signature images makes me a sad panda, what is the ETA to get that feature added through iteration?

Nice! I have some ideas that I think can improve functionality just a bit. When you roll over a thread, a little popup info window appears underneath. The experience would be better if you eliminate mouse focus from these panels so that if you roll over another thread (the one directly underneath the thread that has the info panel) even if your mouse is still over the info panel, it moves the info panel to the current thread you're over. Swiping the mouse from top to bottom should flip the info panels quickly and upon each rollover of each thread.
.infoPanel { pointer-events: none; }

HAHAHA! Well played mam!
QFT - CCP - I am normally on your side but keep in mind how much players DO FOR YOUR COMPANY - FOR FREE (mass testing, forum testing, security testing, APP Development to supplement the game). Now you charge them for it. I am all for licensing, but maybe CCP should just BUY OUT the intellectual property of those that make useful contributions to the EVE community instead of FORCING THEM to pay. Just a thought.
Oh and seeing as you guys majorily sórTwTd the pooch with the last forums and lost the trust of many of us...my response to testing your new ones will be - NO. It makes me wonder too especially with you guys on Lulzsec's radar what else I need to worry about.
Have a nice day. Sorry to be so ....err...direct.

So apparently the team which developed the new forums hasn't heard of variable-width elements that scale depending on desktop/window size. Means the web team wasn't purged of idiots after all. A shame. And the "new" forums still lag on a 1mbps connection from all the useless and bloated "features."

Why CCP so obsessed about changing old forum?
They tried once and it was total failure. Now they wanna try it again.
But why they want to change old compact , simple format, easy to use forum with this Large font , large buttons with huge toon pics format?
Now in order to read forum not only I have to scroll up and down but also left and right.
This formot more like elementary school children text book format. Waste of space.
in same space, I m able to read three reply in old forum while only able to read one in new forum.
Please stubborn CCP. cancel this forum change. Just improve some feature of old forums. like search function. its insufficient in old forum.
(btw new forum doesnt let user leave space at the begining or end of the pos, unless you type some character, bu instead it uses and waste more space with its format so its not possible to ready one topic without many scrolls.)

Did you look into finding a method of porting the old forum database into the new forums? I know reformatting a bunch of text db entries is is high science and a lot of effort, but surely you'll want to please your users after the previous deployment fiasco. Thank you in advance. ... If you like choice please support this topic in the Assembly Hall. Thanks.

Edited by: Kerfira on 16/06/2011 18:54:24 On your screenshot of your so-called 'compact' forum view, vertically you're still wasting 55% of the screen-space vertically, and 28% of the horizontal screenspace.
We like your joke, but this isn't April 1st, guys!
Also, where is the old content? If you can't even find out how to convert from an old forum format to a new one, how the hell can we trust that you got the much more complex issue of security right?
