Mate , while CCP has good customer relations (better than most) they exist not to provide a game, but to pay the employees wages, provide a ROI- they exist to make money. If EVE didnt make money it would be gone a long time ago.
It is a business, first and foremost, no website/game that has achieved the scale EVE has lives in a utopia world where the needs of the masses are provided free. EVE is a commodity that is sold for a profit. If you think it should be otherwise then the real world is one day going to hit you quite hard.
EVE will provide what you want, because if it doesnt adapt it wont attract new money, expansions are not done to be nice to the player base, they are done because EVE wants to be top of the game, and attract more paying customers- if it gets stale it dies, and so does the income
EVE is not an ethereal game, EVE pays peoples mortgages, food bills, bar tabs. It does not exist for the players, it provides a service that we are willing to pay. and its ultimate role is to generate income.
EVE will live or die on its expertise to provide the gaming experrience that users desire, but never fool yourself this is in someway a charity, done to provide the gamer the best experience. EVE like every other business will do just enough at the minimum outlay to keep the business viable.
Eve does it better than most, but it is a business and its aim is to make money

CCP is a company made by gamers, and it tries to invest as much money as it can back into the games it's making.
I'm not aware of any great need for donations and I'm not exactly sure how those are handled, but I'm sure it would be of help though. So if you have a few million lying around that you'd like to get rid of for a good cause, feel free to donate .
Use this page to get in contact with ccp: http://www.ccpgames.com/en/home.aspx
p.s. Don't trust Guard, he's a devious one he is.
On that page there I don't see a paypal Donate button... OR any sort of option to donate..
I have to ask which is the better option?
Buying majority stock in CCP
or
Donating Several Million Directly to CCP and dictating what it is allowed to be used on

Well 2 things that got me worried about how CCP uses their funds:
Having a rap band and that trip with 20000 employees that prob cost a lot with 0 return to game.
So unless you buy CCP raising funds to them will only end in their vodka.

If I were to Donate a few million US Dollars to CCP would they then be able to hire more people and turn out expansions faster and in better quality?
I realize that money dose not solve anything and money can't fix stupid but I still wonder sometimes if having more money and to that end more resources would in any way help CCP become more efficient at their job.
They are rolling out Incarna 1 CQ at a time and it's taking so long for them to do so when most larger gaming Devs would take a fraction of the time. I wonder is money and man power a factor?
If I wanted to directly influence gameplay changes could I not just Buy CCP?
You would be wise to send the money directly to my personal account. I know this company in and out so I would be good at distributing the money for you. Special favor for you, my friend.
In EvE even the Devs are scammers.

Why do you think they aren't investing money into Eve? You think the loads of devs working on Eve and the expansions and patches they keep pumping out are free?

My comment was in reference to a hypothetical scenario where a person might want to make a rather gigantic donation to ccp, and I was just speculating there. Having an option to choose which project your subscription fee goes into would probably be impractical.
There may be a misconception though that CCP is leaving Eve out to dry or something in favor of other projects, but that's far from the truth. There's been a massive amount of effort put into it these last few years, and that's going to continue for the forseeable future.

That would be like asking the store you buy bread from to only use the profits from that to buy more bread - it would be rediculous and no business should run like that.

Edited by: John''eh on 17/06/2011 09:45:16 Strange that this be posted today, I was just wondering about this.
I plan on being a billionaire, and I was pondering today what I would do with my money to diversify my portfolio... and The idea came to me that I would simply fly to Iceland with a large briefcase full of cash and buy CCP.
But than the biz guy who lives in my head started wondering about the due diligence on such an investment, so I ran some numbers; They told me that CCP really doesn't use its full resources.
My main issue with "buying in" to ccp was that I feel, as an investor, a player, etc, that CCP has severe brain trust issues. I also worry that the lack of effort to hire and retain top technical Dev and QA people - aka people who can code, not just black box testers - speaks volumes about the lack of passion and dedication its employees have and I see this lack as short sightedness that a "real" software company would never make the mistake of. And I worry, as an investor, that management either doesn't have enough "skin in the game" to truly want to be successful or they simply suck at hiring the right people, and are great at not hiring the people they should.
All this translates into short sightedness that has killed many other large, successful companies. Given my personal experience I sort of expected the troubles Eve now has, but I think its a big failure on the part of the CEO and his team to be so non-effective in their positions that the issues they face now are even an issue when they could have been mitigated with proper planning long ago.
So yes, despite the fact that the publicly available data shows that if a player is active for 3 months they stay subbed - and that equates to a pretty solid/stable income stream - that does hurt the viability of CCP and Eve Online as an investment as it adds to the risk.

Realistically? CCP is a private company, so you don't have the option of any of them except "donating". But since it is a for profit company an not a charity, you will get no tax benefit from doing so; And if you did anyway CCP doesnt have to listen to you or do as yu ask with the money.
Due to this my conclusion was that your best investment in this situation is to use the funds to seed your own company that competes directly with CCP, thereby making them start to worry about things like keeping customers happy. It would be the best way to troll them, improve eve, and also would give you the possibility of creating a title that you could make a return on your investment.

Nope, but there are plenty of eager developers looking for the funding with ideas and plans and management skills that they could deliver an Eve buster in less time that it takes CCP to fix their super capital ****up.
