Thiswas my first eve character (not counting my trial character from 2003). Had no clue what the hell I was doing other than I wanted to fly big ships then I got interested in manufactuiring for about a week or two and gave up. then it was mining for a good while. then PVP, then wormholes. He looks much better after a few years of focused training but you should have seen him in 2009. It was ugly...really ugly. |

There's no such thing as a badly trained pilot.
For example, if you only trained shield stuff and fly an armor ship - obviously you're not badly trained, you went to the wrong spaceship dealer that talked you into flying an armor ship?

One of my first characters was horribly trained. Always aimed to get it into 0.0 (it did get there for awhile) so had the idea that I should train all the skill books I could get my hands on as I thought it would not be so easy to get them in 0.0. Result of course was I had loads of skills I never used. |

The spaceship dealer is usually your Corp CEO. I have deleted and cleared my signature 7 times and it still won't go away. |

The thing is, your very first toon will always be cross trained and have stuff thats unfocused. I am a great example. I believe its impossible to have a 100% focused character when you first step into this game. Unless of course your RL friends play so you kinda might have some knowledge of the game.
When you first download the client and login no one thinks hmm yeah I'll be a 100% focused loki pilot. Simply because you wont have a clue about what ships do what and their real uses.
You'll try a bit of everything, missions, mining, you may try exploration etc so right there youve already lost that focused look.
My other character is a perfect tengu pilot who is uber focused compared to me. |

I do believe the thread title sums me up rather well.
I'm a Caldari that loved all things missile related, then railguns, then I saw an Abaddon in action and knew I needed one.
So I had a Rokh and now I have an Abaddon. Now once again I have the urge to to use missiles, and might get a CNR for mission running.
I'm terrible at focussing on one character, I've always been like that with games. In the end though I should hopefully be able to to play all the ships I love.
Now if only the Rokh and Raven could swap rolls. I hate the look of the Raven. |

My skill sheet most probably looks like crap. Thats what you get for trying a game with no contact inside for teaching some basics. |

I have to agree, when I started the tutorial was rubbish, and I knew no one. I played alone for a while wasting a lot of skill points it seems.
I took a break in between for a while, started again with friends and found some direction before taking around 3 years of a break.
Now I know a lot more, I just wish I knew more about it all when I started. Some direction early on helps a lot. |

That's how it usually goes anyway, you start doing something, you get bored, you do something else, it's good that EVE has a lot of different activities you can train for. |

Everyone starts with the same amount of SP (around 55k if I remember correctly) and therefore your question wouldn't be "better"... |

I WIN THIS!
I started Eve in 2007. I was a very very casual player. I would log on, maybe twice a week. This was back before we had a thing called a "Skill Que". If you were not online when you skill finished, you lost training time until you could log on and set a new skill. If your skill was only 8 hours to train to level 2, you needed to be online 8 hours later to set it to level 3...
Ofc, being a very casual player, this was my downfall. I had no focus in my training, outside some industrial skills. I missed more training time that I used. I un-subbed and then re-subbed a few different times.
Finally, in 2010, with only 5 mill skillpoints to show for it, I decided to turn to PvP and become more serious about my internet spaceships. I have missed little training time since then. (with the help of the newly implemented que)
From 2007-2010 I trained 5 mill SP. From 2010-now, I have trained almost an additional 30 mill SP.

My reference was max skill training rate possible (remaps) and the 450 mil sp clone.
