But I didn't want to buy this expansion. I liked the game the way it was.... Futhermore, we pay a monthly subscription so this patch isn't free. We must continue to subscribe, whereas other games where I can buy the disk and choose to purchase expansions I want or don't want.
And it is actually pretty logical. I am paying for play time. Due to CCP failure we are unable to play for a period of time that we paid for. In the real world if I give you money and you don't deliver a satisfactory good or service you refund the money. Please explain to me why that shouldn't apply to CCP?

Ok, it might be .67 Euro's or 50 cents, whatever... Eve is ALWAYS down longer than they say they will be and if you add up all the downtime over the time you're a player (I've been here since '07) that time/money can really add up...

So translucent, vitamin D deficient, basement dwellers such as yourself, can finally go out and de-pastie themselves. I'd imagine you looking something like the librarian vampire in the first blade movie.
As an aside, you people who complain about the extended downtime each and every time there is a patch or update, I thank you. The level of internet weeping that the EVE community has achieved, has not let me down. As I sit here at work, reading all these wonderful, tear filled posts about, refunds and free skill points, I can only think of what a great day today truly is. Thank you all again.
Clever... Not really... Some people who play this game only get to this play this game one or two days a week (because they have a real life besides Eve), and with a 12 hour downtime, depending on where you live, they might have just taken your entire day for this week...
If you really don't play this game all that often because you're supposedly at work, you should be able to appreciate the frustration of missed game time...
But yes, it IS a wonderful day out... Not really, I live in Florida and it's pretty if you're a tourist, but once you're native it's just 100 degrees out with high humidity and there's nothing worth doing since it's what's there for you to do every day... o.O

We get free skill points once and anyway did you ever noticed how many money you are wasting while you are asleep, or at work, or even...... :O or even don't want to play EvE.
And in addition to other MMO'S where nothing happens when you not play in Eve your Skillqeue, industrial jobs, and reasearch jobs still go on. Oh and if anyone will lose his POS cause of the lack of fuel, you could have fueled it before patch deployment
Wasting time/money at work, sleeping and living my life are all things that can not be avoided, however, when I have to work longer than I am supposed to I am paid more money (overtime), when I sleep longer I wake more refreshed and my brain functions properly, I am compensated for doing that activity longer.
When Eve patches take longer (and 12 hours to load code that's already been written and supposedly tested, is kind of a long time when most games can patch in 4-10 without fail 90% of the time)the only thing I am compensated with are trolls on their forum when I'm trying to find out how much longer the patch is and why is it taking longer...

-1 because you actually READ the EULA... Nobody reads those things...
Besides, let me quote another documentation from this same website: "EVE Online: Incarna 1.0 is scheduled for deployment during an extended downtime on Tuesday, June 21. Downtime will begin at 07:00 UTC and is expected to be completed by 17:00 UTC." notice it says "17:00 UTC and NOT 19:00 UTC"...

It will say incompatible version until they are done applying the patch, then when they are finished your log-in screen will download the patch when you attempt to log-in...

True... i did it that way this time and i'm happy about it ;)
Keep the add ons charge free CCP - keep the quality and i am happy. A few hours of waiting more or less... i dont care.
The add-on's aren't free... They're implementing a whole new currency (which for the most part can only be bought with real money) and you will need this currency to buy items only available in that currency's market (until people buy the items and then put them on the standard isk market at un-Godly high prices...) in what way is that FREE...?

Who knows, I'm betting it's not even their fault they probably had technical issues.
LOL, CCP doesn't asnwer those questions on this board, that info. is on another page of this site (which I do not have the URL handy, you'll just have to look for it, but it IS there and in fact someone has quoted and given the reason for the extension w/ new DT ETA of 21:00 UTC).
We're just keeping CCP on their toes by keeping server requests going to the forum so they know we're getting antsy... They'll say to themselves, "Hurry, they're getting impatient... Get Tranquility up before they overwhelm the forums w/ server requests and bring down the whole system..." or something like that, LOL...
Nah, I really love CCP and this game though, I'm looking forward to walking around my Captain's Quarters, I'm looking forward to the bug fixes and new graphics changes, just sucks waiting 4 more hours than I expected...

That way you are aware of and can plan for every single way a software company will try to limit or screw you for your use of their software on your network.
The people that do not read them are just looking to get screwed over later on when they try to react to something they have already agreed to.

My ISP is going to go nuts this month
I suppose there is going to be huge demand once they restart - with pathetic download speeds as a result
Last point - it was suggested elsewhere that the new Captain's Quarters were only available for Minmatar. Admittedly they have crap-looking ships so this might be fair, but I am hoping all races get the CQ right away?
Will these be customised for each race? Will there be an option to turn off that damned Gregorian Chant in Amarr CQs?
Depth effects refers to the 3-D rendering and it will only apply to users with low-end graphics cards (probably only the video cards that use shared memory)
Not sure about d/l speeds as I thin CCP uses a bit torrent style downloader so in theory the more people currently downloading, the faster you should d/l...
CQ will be enabled for ALL races, though I am unsure about that damned Gregorian chant, LOL...

Well, I doubt very much whether those items will be critical to your ability to play the game or, for that matter, give anybody an advantage (ok, so a funky new hair style may distract your PvP opponent), so I don't see how this makes the patch NOT free. Nobody's forcing you to buy the stuf, which is cosmetic anyway, and it's not as if the whole market is being switched over to the new economy ...
True enough... But by that logic you would be willing to pay for graphics updates, I mean, they're only cosmetic, right...? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

I ran a test recently and the one thing that confused me is that it seemed to have run BETTER on older hardware than it does on new. Ran tests from multiple machines.. The link below is to the lower end pc results. Hardware about 4 years old.
Test on duality, FRAPS footage - Includes docking to time it, and walking from ship platform to the inner quarters.
1920x1080 with all graphics options Max'ed out. AA+HDR enabled. Sound & Music also recorded for testing. Specs: Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 CPU on Vista x64 OS 4GB RAM NVIDIA GTX260 Video card
File Link http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/JCA/dualitytest.wmv
That's a pretty sweet set-up for an older piece of hardware, the GTX260 is a high-end GPU...
Are your newer computers using on-board cards with shared resources? It's the only reason I can think of why the old would out-perform the new... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

DT is NOT extended to 23:30, according to: http://www.eveonline.com/news.asp
"EVE Online: Incarna 1.0 is currently being deployed. The database updates are taking longer than expected, and therefore the downtime has been extended. We expect to open Tranquility to the players at 21:30 UTC. Thank you for your understanding."
As you can see the status has not changed from the last update, it's still 21:30 UTC... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

LOL, I'm pretty sure I'm capable of installing some coding from a command line... I wouldn't say I definitely can (depends on the coding and the command line UI ((I prefer less of a UI and more of just a command line))) but I believe myself to be more than capable of this, yes... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

EVE Online: Incarna 1.0 is currently being deployed. Database updates took longer than expected, and have performed additional updates to a level one mission arc. This has resulted in an extended downtime. We expect to open Tranquility to the players at 23:30 UTC. Thank you for your understanding.

So when your boss tells you that he "expects" you to finish a project by a certain deadline and you don't what usually happens? When a construction project is expected to finish by a certain date and doesn't what happens? When you are expected to show up in court for not paying your child support and you don't show up what happens? (I know you have issues with this). There are consequences when you fail to meet expectations. Please tell me what is the result of failed expectations with this game?
I'm sorry to inform you that these situations are not identical. Allow me to elaborate.
Firstly when a person becomes employed by a place of business often times they are the ones to have to sign the terms, not the employer. This is diametrically opposite of the client/service, since the receiver of the money has to do the signing. The employer has not signed a form that allows the provider of the work to change the deadline as they need. If the employee fails at meeting deadline it is within the employer's right to terminate employment, as you are free to stop paying CCP for their service.
When a construction company takes on a job they sign a contract setting a legally reinforced completion date. If it is not completed the company is dropped from the contract without being paid. Again here the receiver of the money is the primary signer of the agreement, with the hiring body signing merely to say the company will be paid upon completion.
As for your third example, since it both is a feeble attempt at a personal attack and not a cash for service situation, I do not feel obligated to explain it to you.
What we have with an EVE Online account has a very distinct difference with the above situations: You are both the one to sign the agreement and the one supplying money. If you do not like the results you are free to move on to a different game, as the boss would hire a new employee or the hiring body would hire a new construction company. What you have not seemed to grasp is that you do not have control of CCP at all. You are the one that agreed to their terms, not the other way around. As such, you can be as angry as you feel justified, but it will not make a single difference because you are bound to that agreement whether to read it or not. You scrolled to the bottom and clicked accept. Therefore, you can either accept the delay or move on to another game.
+1 because this a well thought out argument, and every word of it is true... -1 because this is part f what is wrong with the free market economy, corporations are no longer held accountable for shoddy craftsmanship, failed deadlines and poor customer service because now we have no choice, it's either their way or you can get your skittles somewhere else...
CCP can help change the world for the better if they hold themselves accountable over giving us the finger and telling us to shove off... Which they have have done neither in this case, it's just sucks that they're having a hard time and everyone is frustrated. But you still get the -1 for not wanting some kind of compensation and just accepting that because it's in your EULA that "That's just the way it is..."
Companies should respect their customer and be willing to provide some compensation for a full day of downtime, no matter how small it is just so that we know that they have a respect for us and want us to continue to playing Eve and not move to Vendetta, because in the end, WE'RE paying THEIR paychecks and they AREN'T paying MY or YOUR paychecks, right...? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

I'm not saying I'd turn down some form of compensation for the time. We all would appreciate it if CCP were to hand out some game time or skill points or whatever. The point I try to make is that demanding or threatening to leave is a fruitless endeavor.
LOL, I never demanded anything... I'm a realist, CCP is a corporation, corporations exist to make money. To maximize their profits they need to accommodate as many people as possible in order to prevent losing clients and potential clients to emerging mmo's in the same genre...
I threaten nor demand nothing, I'm not doing anything to anyone, CCP is hurting themselves with a flawed business strategy by letting a large percentage of their client base get frustrated and build them up and make them wait for hours on end with EVERY update with little to no compensation in return...
On the other hand so many people will jump in-game and forget any of this thread ever happened and will care less how long they waited no matter how much they "threatened" or "demanded" compensation...
In the end, I'm merely pointing out poor business practice, especially poor business practice that runs rampant and unchecked in the corporate world and is slowly destroying the free market economy...
Just sayin'... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |

not too be a stickler on your point, but, 100,000 people multiplied by $15 a month, is $1.5 million, not 15k
20 people in forum multiplied by 50 people per person in forum is 1,000 people. 1,000 people times $15 per month is $15,000.
What you are forgetting is that there are only actually 1000 people that play EVE, all the rest of the characters are simply alts.

Originally by: La Port Royale I started to play this game a while back now. And the first thing that totally got me hooked was the playerbase. Dedicated, smart and very creative and patient. (some times ahev to due to 23day skills to train)
But all that seems to disapear the moment devs keep us posted on the progress of business. CCP put alot of effort in alot of cool(and less cool) stuff this week. The finals of the tournament, all around the world fan/business days. Fought off several attacks via the net. refitting eve components, forums and redid evegate.
Compared to the screaming little children i left behind in WOW and others. Nothing seems different reading most of the comments this week. Yes is has been a ****ty week for all of us, CCP and players alike. But people nagging, or even trying to rally others to quit eve. Just because they have to wait for improvements ? Kinda strikes me odd knowing Eve like I do.
Oh come now, most of it's in good fun, we're just griping while we wait hour after endless hour (past scheduled DT) to play the game we love so much...
And I'm hoping to run enough incursions this week to buy me my Golem in 2 days when I'm done training for it... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I've been here since '07 and I LIKE flying my Drake, so F*CK YOU!!! |
