RL time constraints make 0.0 and lowsec roams nearly impossible. basically I need to get on, do something, then log. Sometime I need to walk off or log with little notice. I don't care about loosing ships, but don't want to leave people hanging.
which would be better for me?
RvB - heard it's small blobs, smack talk, skiddish solo-ers FW - is it even happening? Any fun? LP gain significant?
Can solo's or 2v1 be found in either? Am I safe when not in the "arenas" or will I get ranked if I go shopping to local faction hub?
Thank you in advance

If you don't have "time for lowsec roams" and FW is primarily in lowsec, does that answer your question?
...Then when you stopped to think about it. All you really said was Lalala. |

I've not flown FW, so I can not comment on that, in fact, I am thinking of giving it a go myself.
However, I have been in and out of RvB for a over a year or so.
RvB is instant PvP in comparison to other options, that said, there are times where it can take a little while to get going.
I often find that if there are few on then you tend to get some decent solo battles, if there are a lot on then it tends to be gang fights, however its the inbetween that can get a little sticky - not enough for gangs and to many for solo (get ganked).
HOwever, I have been there for a while because it is fun and, like you, I do not have much time on my hands. When i log in I want to know that I kill or lose a ship within 10 mintes or so...... and that is what RvB gives you.
If you are new to PvP then it can be a good start as there are some rules that prevent podding and other anti-combat things (ECM), thus you can keep those learning implants in too.
However, if your goal is to learn... you will need to move on at some point. If its just to get combat, then you can stay as long as you like... hence the reason that there some pilots that have been there for 5 years+
FOr me, its not a learning thing, its an instant combat thing, and for many others too........

In regards to FW, you don't need to "roam" to lowsec. You live there.
And FW PvP is probably about as instant as RvB although it all depends of course on the activity of the opposite faction.

If you're time constraints are really as tight as you make it seem, then EVE pvp isn't for you. Honestly, just stick to a FPS for your instant pewpew.

R-V-B is there channel.
You just join ethier Corp, they accept anyone.
The HQ is Halle(Red) and Jurlesel (Blue) both in the X-Sense Station, remember to get your ships sorted before you join or have Haulers to bring them.
A same account Hauler is good for that and takes a day to train.

Do this ^
Personly, depending on funds, I would work out 'roughly' what two ships you might want to try and then form a shopping list for them and haul the stuff in prior to joining.
You WILL be tempted to apply before doing this and you will almost certainly lose your hauler!
Of course there are the, very proffessional, (Red?) Frog services that will haul your stuff in for you. Either way, you gotta go buy it to start with.
IF you are new to PvP, it might be wise to look at some ship setups before joining, again, to ensure you have an idea of what you want to try.
That said....... you'll end up trying tons of stuff before settling on what you like.
They also have a ship replacement program too....though, I am not sure how long you have to have been there to take advantage of that.
I would recomend around 10 ships ready for combat..... though, if you are a 'gang' guy then you wont need so many to start with, however, if you like solo fights, then you WILL need more - there are some very good pilots in RvB.
Post more questions if you have any.
Quote: RvB - heard it's small blobs, smack talk, skiddish solo-ers
Spot on!!!! but A) don't join the smack B) It's not far from low/0.0 PvP and C) they are only skiddish (me) because its hard to engage one pilot when there are 15 around him!

Do RvB. FW as a newbie won't work because you won't be able to join fleets without a PVP record. Due to spies from enemy fleets, FW fleets don't accept people who are new to the militia. FW is also a lousy blue-ball fest where you spend hours hunting down enemy fleet, just to have them do nothing until they have 2x your numbers and larger ships (at which point you leave because its a suicide fight).
Basically, FW has died a long time ago. Now it's only good for solo PVP. |

Edited by: Simbellah on 20/06/2011 16:09:39 Edited by: Simbellah on 20/06/2011 16:08:37 COUPLE MORE Q's please
- The rewards - FW give good rewards? RvB I imagine gives little to nothing in rewards, but cost little to nothing if you do it right. If I can run missions in FW while I wait for encounters, would that be a better plan than RvB? Because I'd at least be doing something while I wait.
- In RvB can are there safe zones (like outside the war constellation) or is it constant be on your guard, regardless of system? Can "I turn it off" if I need to run to the market HUB?
I have lots of 0.0 PvP experience, but not much in Lowsec or soloing for that matter. I love EVE and want to bring it into balance with RL so I can continue to play. This is my kind of game, not an FPS (although those are good for instant action and instance stopping).

I ahve the same interests as you and have tried both FW and RVB. I think either could be the best you will find in eve for fast pvp action.
But that said you will still be looking at about 1 decent fight per 2 hours of roaming in fw. Going in plexes can sometimes lead to decent fights and you can go solo without worrying about getting blobbed.
RvB was a bit better as far as finding action fast. But there was a bit less diversity in ships as well. Mostly t1 frigates cruisers and destroyers. At least when i did it about a year ago.
On the whole the CCP needs to work on the game for people like us. They could make fw much better.

You're trolling right? So you're saying that the majority of the FW corps have nothing but vets and will not take on any noobs whatsoever? Please.
Sim- There is no "off" button in RvB. You can solo in FW but it is limited. I tried to solo in my first few days of FW and had a few kills but generally speaking, it was too time consuming, given the limited gametime I can afford.
If you do not run FW missions in a bomber but in a frig/cruiser, then yes, you will find more encounters.

I have been in RVB for the better part of 18 months...before that I was in FW since the first day that was invented. (of course under another toon which shall remain **cough C69 cough** anonymous). I have FC'd over 100 FW fleets but only 8 RVB fleets so far (been in hundreds as a pilot).
I can say that each has its own merits and drawbacks....but for QUICK, SIMPLE, FAST PVP action....RVB is definately the best way to play the game WITHOUT ANY DOUBT.
If its fleet fighting you want, there is almost always a fleet active on both sides with great FC's and leaders. If you are an FC...there are always pilots ready to take up arms and fight with you. They take great pride in making sure that the more "casual aka (arranged) fights" are as fair as possible.
If its solo you want..there are also many dedicated solo pilots that roam around looking for action...and while the traps/bait/ganks are inevitable (welcome to EVE) if you truly want a 1 vs 1...all you need to do is ask and several pilots will respond. RVB HONORS ALL 1 vs 1 fights. no one will jump in to gank you in a requested 1 vs 1.
RVB mainly sticks to frigate/cruiser to help facilitate quick/CHEAP/fast PVP and this ensures that our newer or POORER pilots can fight as often as they wish, but how you fit them is up to you. You are also free to solo in whatever ship you like if frigates/cruisers aint your thang...but expect your shiney to be ganked ASAP (we are also KM *****s)
Give it a try, there is no obligation, if you dont like it...thanks for stopping by, seeya again soon

I was in Faction Warfare for a year, and I've been in RvB for about a week.
From my experiences so far, I can tell you this. In FW you will wait two days for someone to decide to form a fleet, then wait two hours for it to form, then either get delayed for two hours or roam for three. In that period of time in which you roam, you will either find a blob larger than yours or nothing at all, with the occasional idiot accidentally flying into your own blob every once in a blue moon. Your fleet, and very well the entire militia, will be riddled with spies that will pretty much preclude any possibility of having any element of surprise, ever.
In RvB, you get far less organized fleets with greatly decreased numbers flying generally T1/easily replaceable ships, from frigates to BCs to the highly rare BS. People are much more willing to 1v1 you or have small fleet engagements without having overpowering force. But it's not as fair as people try to portray - pilots will certainly gank the crap out of you given any opportunity - and the fighting is generally centered around two systems, with either one HQ being stared down by enemies or the other.
So far I've found RvB to be more enjoyable with respect to my current style... solo or small, casual gangs with minimal time investment to find a fight.
Sounds like RvB would be good for you.

After being in and out of RvB since it's first interation, I have come to conclude that it is a very, very poor choice for someone new to the game, or to PVP.
I detailed why here
I've had a lot more fun over the years in FW than I have in RvB. If your fleets are taking hours to form and are skittish at engaging, then I can only suggest you're in a bad FW corp... and I ABSOLUTELY recommend a FW corp over the general militia.
Here is what a good FW killboard looks like
It's not as 'pick up and play' as RvB, but it is more varied, more genuine and you don't have a slew of rules stacked against the new players. ------ Open Letter to RvB - you are not noob friendly |

I'm interested in getting started in FW as well soon. I'm currently grinding my Gallente faction up to the needed level, should be done in a day or two. This is something I decided to devote nearly all of my game time to and will be my main focus. The problem is trying to find a good (and active) FW corp has been more difficult then I expected. I spent hours picking through the forums, I chased down several leads to corps I thought would be a good fit only to find they are not inactive, (in some cases for years). I still have not found that corp but I'm sure they must be out there.
In my searches I came across a fantastic post complete with links to the major corps involved with FW. The only problem is that its so out of date its currently useless.
If someone who knows the main player corps, and maybe a general of descriptions of what they do, could recreate an updated thread I think it would be very useful to new fleet war pilots that are interested in it and seeking like minded people in well a organised corps to join with.

Hey folks, in an attempt to offer something "extra" in addition to our daily pew...we are proud to announce the RVB Summer 2011 championships. This will be a T1 Frigate class; 1 vs 1 OPEN tournament with absolutely no cost to you. RVB is looking to recruit pilots interested in PEWPEW and offer this event to show our merit.

When all entries have been received I will RANDOMLY put pilots into "groups" of 3 based on the timeblock which you have selected. During the WEEK of June 28 to Downtime (11:00) July 5 you will be responsible for finding your 2 opponents within your "group" and engaging in 1 vs 1 combat. Send me the killmail as proof of the outcomes. If any problems should arise, such as not being able to find your opponent, or draw situations, just send me an evemail with details and we will make a decision/figure something out. WINNERS of each "group" will be admitted to the single elimination knock-out rounds until the SUMMER champion is crowned, these fights will be held the following week july 5 to whenever completed and in conjunction with our 3 vs 3 events. Other more specific details will be posted and mailed as needed
