Seriously, all this tournament was meta gaming and deals. There was no fighting.

You kidding? The first weekend we had REALLY close fights and a hero Rupture in one fight, this weekend we've had some of the most hilarious commentating and some really funny matches. Eve is a game and games are made to have fun, the fact that this tournament has been the most fun and the most funniest proves that Eve is IMPROVING, not dieing.

I think they should just DQ all the teams who obviously throw the match and let aliances who actually want to fight proceed to the next phase of tournament (I'm looking at you group H). Why am I not surprised to see Lee Chanka involved again!

Due to last week's results, there were a few matches today where the results didn't matter. This wasn't the case in any of the previous matches and it will not be the case with any of them tomorrow.

Edited by: Aineko Macx on 18/06/2011 21:20:14 Yep, in terms of actual fighting and close matches this year is much better than the last two ATs, where most fights went very uneven as soon as a team lost its logi. Also, the last ATs did also have shenanigans. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

Think people are judging the entire day by the few fights at the end, there were some great fights today. Okay there were some team knowing they were going out saving isk too, but some of those still put up a good show.
But even the meta gaming is fun, I love the fact the EVE is so immersive and gritty and real, right down do the point of coruption and shady backroom deals.
Brilliant, roll on tomorrow!

This annoyed me as well. I know that the results of the match didn't matter - these two teams had no chance of advancing - but they could have still put on a fun fight in the spirit of the competition.

While some of the more recent fights of the day did turn out to be boring, I think my alliance has provided some very interesting matches. Also I think the meta gaming deals that were made do ruin the spirit of the tournament, but in all likeliness the fight for the championship tomorrow is going to be quite epic.

I enjoyed a lot of the matches first half today, some good brawls even if the result didn't matter. Second half was a little bit more predictable, but the 0.0 dev info easily made up for the boring matches I felt.
What it all builds up for though is absolutely fabulous finals tomorrow, when every match is a do or die and everyone has a chance to know the opponent out.
Gonna be epic.

I've never watched a whole tournament before this one. I must say I've been extremely entertained by every single match, even the one with the congo line today (Raivi and M. Bolton III had some really interesting commentary, at least from the perspective of a new pilot).
I'm looking forward to Sunday. The tournament has officially hooked me on EVE.

In it's maturing the alliance tournament has become a little more streamlined and predictable than it used to be. Less Impoc explosions, less wildly, insanely expensive gear getting blown up and more of an e-sports feel to it instead. At the same time the commentating has matured away from dinosaur puppets sticking out of pants and adolescent humor to actual commentating on the matches.
I'm just not so sure all of this is a good thing... cause the other stuff was just so damn fun to watch.

That is what was said of the entire weekend prior to match start .. how did that work out?
After the first day there has been nothing new, just variations on missile kiting and Matar rush really. It has been like watching a perpetual rerun of <insert god-awful sitcom name here> with a broken remote.
PS: Nerf the prizes hard going forward. Giving close to a trillion ISK to an alliance based on their ability to abuse whatever FoTM is 'active' better than the competition makes for no competition at all, or give them the choice of no-prize in exchange for statue (ie. putting a price on the e-peen)!

This tournament is VERY enjoyable. I couldn't see all the matches like the last one, but those i saw were great ! Some of them even full of awesome.
I wish there was a way to see them with in game tools, so that I could get more info and more importantly look wherever I want ! (even if some views of battleships crossing the screen with turrets firing are already epic) ---------------

you did notice that CO2 brought only 50 points did you? this was not done after razor and outbreak metagamed their way into sunday but they were already in system and could not change fittings/ships
the only way for both razor and outbreak to advance was for razor to win with a 10 point handicap killing 100 points otherwise the 187.5 points CO2 would have scored in the last match would have gotten them the spot.... so yeah razor and outbreak clearly are the dishonerable guys while CO2 and wild boars are the epitomes of e-honor and clearly were not planning to metagame there

This tournament IS epic! A lot of a nice very close fights, meta gaming lulz all around, and hilarious commentators. I enjoy every single minute of it. Wouldn't it be EVEn more epic and bigger lulz if we got a conga on Olympics sprint finals or football World Cup? I never finish anyt... |

Confirming the awesome this year.
Razor and Outbreak's preemptive meta strike is my favorite standout moment so far. Great move guys.
It would've been red-fed moving on, but they fell just a little short. Good show :) ___________________________________

It's funny that you mention RAZOR, since the group that they and outbreak were in had CO2 and Wild Boars who were meta gaming together anyway, as evident in the qualifying round. Razor then went on to beat We Form Voltron, one of the most favored teams to win the tournament, so it's not like they were gifted the win. They had a rocky start but deserved 4th place and the 20 billion prize. ---
