Edited by: Tyzzara on 19/06/2011 21:54:51 Just want to say a few things regarding my take on this yearÆs tourney:
Thank you to the staff, volunteers and dedicated people behind the scenes that all invest time and effort into bringing all of the fans what has been the best alliance tourney yet. Too bad the final match was not taken seriously but that is for the other 400 threads on the forums about it.
-Level of professionalism and technical / social production better than any previous year (from the HD feed stability to the stage props, camera and mixing)
-Level of real world performance in the realm of true entertainment was well above the norm for what we have seen. Another two or three years and you will be ready for the major networks!
-I liked the fact you decided to wear decent clothes on the FINAL day. Props. Forget all the kidz comments...
Seriously, thanks to all of you who make this happen and continue to improve on it year after year. Looking forward to the next.
GAME ON!

That won't happen... A tournament is called a tournament for a reason, while meta gameing is perfectly fine in EVE it's not in a tournament.
IMO EVE tournament is for 2 reasons: 1. For alliances to make a name for them self 2. To entertain the viewers
While we can put a check next to 1. I'm pretty sure we can't put it next to 2. Because a riged final it's just sad and upsets a lot of viewers.

I agree, great job CCP!
However, I will not be watching any more Tourneys due to what happened and the joke made of your hard work and the work of others by the "finalist", outbreak and hydra. I feel bad for all the teams who actually worked hard to do well and it was sad to see how fixed even the Eve Tourney is.
Good job to all those teams who were in the tourney (except hydra and outbreak) and win or lose at least you tried your best. Much respect.

Overall a very good show, gets better each year. Even Zastrow had his moments. ;)
Final fight was a huge let down though. Meta gaming being a fun/crucial part of eve does not make it very entertaining to watch in this environment. No idea why they didn't fight it out instead of that silliness.

CCP Soundwave rocks. The CCP guests were all interesting and had interesting stuff to say. The commentary team was the best yet (yes, all of them).

A few things:
* The stream quality was excellent and it didn't drop out at all this year.
* Hosts were highly entertaining. If I had to choose between watching the matches and watching the studio segments, I'd choose the studio segments! Michael Bolton especially <3 (No homo...well maybe just a little bit.)
* The studio looked fantastic.
* Suits!
Also, to anyone complaining about the final match - EVE is what the players make it, and that's what the EVE players made the final. dealwithit.jpg

This was the best tournament yet. I enjoyed the format (even though it meant a few "pointless" matches), the commentary this time around was fantastic, the studio was great, there was even some silly fun that was entertaining. You guys really outdid yourselves this year and I'm already looking forward to the next tournament!

Edited by: J Kunjeh on 19/06/2011 23:10:52 Though I wasn't lucky enough to watch most of the matches live, I really enjoyed what I did get to see (and thank you CCP for getting the YouTube's up so quick...though, it'd be nice if they could all make it up within 24 hours of the match since I missed all but 2 hours of the final 2 days). That said:
- Excellent work on the camera's. So, so, so much better than watching a bunch of red and blue squares running around a black screen. I can't say enough about how well done and engaging the camera work was!
- Superb commentary...it really brought me into the matches.
- Great in-studio commentary from all! I really loved that it was mixed up...a bit of Tourney talk, a bit of talk about other elements of Eve with various CCP guests....wonderfully well done and entertaining
Thanks to all volunteers (CCP staff included) for putting this great bit of Eve-tainment together for us! Can't wait for 10! |

yes, you did an awesome job as moderator most of the time. You guys improve from year to year in an amazing fast speed.
Just next year, dont be so naive anymore. It is not only the alliance tournament, which was ****ed up by metagaming. It happens also on TQ and way more than it should be. If you banned more botters, not only their letterbox companies, but also their famous main characters, we would not see any more some of the famous names, we saw this year again, because they violated the EULA on TQ. Also talk with Goons/PL/Test about Eve 0.0 politics gives you a very onesided point of view, so maybe try to avoid politics and metagaming next time. It would be better.

- Stream was excellent (little stutters now and then on the final day)
- Commentators were very good (with Shadoo and Kil2 being awesome and Raivi with his knowledge extra awesome though missing the amazing eyebrow action of Shadoo)
- Lots of very entertaining fights (esp. last day)
- Awesome trolling by CCP (engine trails)

Meh, I only watched one match, the final which was kinda booooring. I am not too bothered about what happened, though.
It was upto them. CCP will probably put something in place for next year but seeing as I hardly watched, do I care?
Not really. I am at work and bored tbh. Something to do

Best tournament coverage yet! Experts/commentators were really a step above the past and it was obvious that you guys are making improvements. Looking forward to next year...

Best. Tournament. Ever.
Haters gonna hate, but I enjoyed every minute of it this year, straight through the final. Thanks for putting it on CCP, the effort you've put in over the years really showed as this time the technical and commentary side was very solid. I hope to see you again next year at Alliance Tournament 10. My only real suggestion would be to consider making it a slightly more regular thing, ala other e-sports (obviously with lesser prizes/longer lead-up). Maybe a few exhibition matches at other times in the year say, so that AT represents a culmination of a series. Take some well earned rest and drinks though!

The entire evetv crew did a spectacular job this year and this thread really deserves to be on the front page.
Late nights producing videos, hours setting up the studio, excellent makeup and set design, great production values all around, one of the smoothest tournament administrations eve has ever had and all the while having to put up with all of us commentators.
<3 the Tournament team. ---------------------------------------------

Agree with everything above. Eve TV has come a long way, especially the commentators (Even MichaelBoltonIII.) and production values. I hope you will make it back next year along with the others, Raivi. Thanks again, to all of CCP, Shadoo (for calling me a sheep-shy Corkman.) and the Eve TV team for putting on a worthwhile and fun viewing experience.
My corp and alliance are the very best pvpers in the entire history of video games. |

I have followed all of the matches and don't have any regrets on spending my time this way. Very well done tournament, noticeably better than the previous one.
As mentioned before: -great commentators and host: funny, smart, highly competent, and, overall, entertaining -tech backbone worked flawlessly. Honestly, I expected the feed to crash or at least lag on the final day, but none of this happened -I didn't realize how good the camera was until someone pointed it out. It just felt natural enough that I didn't notice it. That's how it should be! -I appreciate that you filled the time between matches with eve discussion and Dev interviews. Although I do confess with tabbing out to EVE or grabbing a snack during those parts -Youtube! I watched every match of the last tournament at least twice (sometimes at the commentating). I expect to watch the newer matches quite a few times, as well
So, great tournament. Thank you to everyone who has made it possible. I believe that you changes are needed to make it better, as the forums already discussed it to death, and the tourney experts can help, as well. I look forward to tuning in on the next one!

Shadoo and Raivi were incredibly good, and it surprised me, because I mainly thought they were picked for being PL. They carried themselves with absolute professionalism, and I hope they will be back to cast in the future.
Kil2 was a slight disappointment in what I have seen. He knows his stuff, but he seemed like outclassed by Raivi as an expert, and unsure of himself in this company. Other times he offered a laid back, semi arrogant style, without putting in much effort. I think he has done better in the past. I bet he will do better next time. No one are at their best all the time, or even when they should/has to.
Zastrow was pretty good as an expert, but too arrogant and bicking for my taste. Taunting can be fun, if done right - he was pretty lacklustre in this way and one-dimensionel. Think the goon from last year was better, or that is how I remember it.
Michael BoltonIII did okay in my book.
Soundwave is still great in his role, and it is okay he isn't so creative, as he isn't supposed to outshine anyone of his guests. He does create a good flow of things, and always makes it interesting conversation still.
Still waiting for viewing the final day though.
