As for you men with female toons, you disgust me
Proud to be male in RL, and confident enough in my heterosexuality, but I still prefer female characters over males and I certainly prefer looking at a females behind, even when it is made only of pixels. Yes, I am that shallow and possibly sexist.
I can barely bring myself to reply to you. You repulse me.
Prior to this, I thought men playing women toons were disgustingly effeminate and showed some sort of subconscious desire to be a woman.
Now I find there is a sub strata of pervert. Filthy men who choose a woman avatar as they get erotic thrills from watching some little dolly rotating around, they desperately spin the camera to try to get a peek of their own cleavage.
You realise some rotund bearded man at CCP was picking his nose and slapping his beer belly whilst coding that shiny ass effect you are becoming aroused by?
Heaven help us if you are locked in Toys R Us overnight.
Repulsive, I am considering leaving eve rather then risk one of you freaks following my avatar around touching yourself.
I live in one of the most gay-friendly towns in north america, and im so glad i dont live in a city full of bigots like you
I am putting my pinky in my butt as we speak because you arouse me so
P.S. female avatars dont mean you are gay, maybe if you think that way though u might be slightly ******ed and beleive Obama is a muslim

And about the whole men playing female avatars... I know a couple of Females who play male avatars!!
Sometimes it not a sexual thing at all, some people use gaming to escape from real life, so they will want to make things as different as possible, and one way to do that is to be the opposite sex in game, like some fantasy games you can be a different race, like elf or dwarf, I bet you the number of non-human race types are higher... does that mean they like sex with animals/aliens? according to your logic, they do! .
The justification for playing a woman toon was "but I still prefer female characters over males and I certainly prefer looking at a females behind, even when it is made only of pixels."
These deviants do not choose a female because "they want to make things as different as possible" from their real life. They self confessedly chose a female because they want to look at THEIR OWN SHINY ASS IN A RUBBER SUIT.
What is more many of these people will be PAYING REAL MONEY to buy said shiny rubber suits, and more besides. Lacy, silky, satiny things. Zips and buttons and clasps. Draping these things over their impossibly tight toned bodies in the privacy of their captains quarters where noone can find them.
Let me also point out the size and shapes available for the female toons are unrepresentative of the natural body shapes of the majority of women. Obviously coded by a man, they further push unnatural body goals onto women, creating self hatred and risk fostering the seeds of eating disorders.

What about the body shapes of the men in EVE, do you think the girls in EVE suddenly want real men to look like that too?

The majority of Women where? I like to think plenty of the billions of women in Asia have mostly lean body types. They do things like physical labor, walking and do not eat fast food 5 times a week. Funny thing is you are probably American, British or Australian (the fattest populations on earth) and as such all have (over)eating disorders. Maybe you missed the part where this is a game set in the distant future so that the genome has had opportunity to perfect itself. Who needs the endorphin rush of a big mac when you can destroy worlds?

That and I don't think someone who's not eve created a character is in much of a position to say what the character creator can and cannot do xD Oh and the range of body shapes is pretty good, just that the human condition means we tend to make attractive characters in it. That and programming to far from the neutral model involves alot more work ^^

0/10 from the poster with barely disguised racist undertones. Ill live with that.
I care not where someone comes from (and there are plenty of non white people with body dysmorphia - look at the trend for skin lightening amongst non white populations).
Your "future genome" line is totaly thrown out by the fact in this "future utopia" we cannot fir a missile over 250km. Something entirely possible in 2011.
Do not let "its the future durrr" be used as a cover for hatred of people with different body sizes.

Edited by: Captain Travaras on 21/06/2011 14:17:25 The OP has spent more time writing his complaint here then it would take him to create a very simple avatar. And as someone suggested, if you are very very against doing it just use the random option. You could create the simplest avatar ever, and adjust the lighting so he is more or less completely shadowed.
I think the new avatar creation system is very impressive, have not seen one with that much detail that i can recall in any recent games ive played. There is now much more variety in the countless characters i come across in eve with all the different portraits, some are very realistic as well.
If im waiting around, i often find myself looking through peoples avatars/bios and is better to see a avatar instead of another blank portrait.
On another note, i wish Eve offered a avatar sex change service, as after 5/6 years i am bored of my male avatar and would much prefer to design a female one to constantly see instead! :)

Whilst you raise a good point that their is a rising issues with men and body image, it is still primarily an issue that effects women, and in particular young women. The sort of age that might be playing an MMO for example. One argument need not be to the detriment of the other.
The range of body sizes is clearly documented elsewhere, and it ranges from super lean -> a slight paunch. It is not representative of real body shape.

I bet you spent many hours aranging your beefcake avatar just so. May I say what a jaunty angle you have arranged your head. And what deliscious pecs you have. Your green tee shirt suits the background perfectly darling.
I however, play eve to fight. I have no interest in dress up. They told me it was a cold dark universe, not a fricking Gap store.

Because OP lacks a portrait (for now) we must take our cues from the name. Let's see... Johnson Scythe... Johnson would be "member", I suppose, and Scythe would be "cutting implement". Subconsciously OP wants to... OK, ick. So either OP is a self-loathing man, or a man-hating woman?
*Shakes head* Some people take this way too seriously.

I'm getting the OP's slant.
1. He is a shadow (old eve had avatars too, or is he that new?) 2. He wants people to look like who they really are (mother did not let him play with legos, thus effected his imagination). 3. He wants men to be men. (Uh... not touching that one but I'm a Lumberjack and I'm OK.) 4. He is probably using his real name for his avatar (hahahahahah)

Hence my comment on "programming to far from the norm" anything more than a "slight paunch" needs significant remodelling of the clothing meshes to make the look natural, not to mention re texturing to fit these new meshes. CCP's character creator is leaps and bounds ahead of other character tools available when it comes to creating realistic characters. ^^
It's a *reward* vs *effort* thing and the balance they have is all good. That and if you don't like it there's always the option of not playing :)
