Edited by: Michael Eads on 22/06/2011 03:54:23 Im really curious. The overwhelming majority seems to think paying ~45 dollars for a monocle is ridiculous. I happen to agree.
Im not here to debate that though. I just wonder how many of you will actually buy some of these items. I get the feeling almost none of these will be bought and CCP will have to either lower the price or remove them.

I'm simply not interested in clothing . . . I thought I was playing a space game, but apparently rather than spending time on the broken aspects of space combat CCP would rather spend all their time and nearly an entire patch on glamor and overpriced items.

Wasn't going to buy any of that shit at SiSi prices, only bought it there as part of testing (PLEX = 100 ISK on test servers).
DEFINITELY not at the asinine prices on TQ. ----- There's nothing Noble about this Exchange! Money for pixels and pink ships for free. |

I'll buy the most expensive item if we get our ship-spin hanger back. ... If you like choice please support this topic in the Assembly Hall. Thanks.

I'll gladly buy something once they release items that are both unique and reasonably priced and noticeable.
Not a tiny monocle or a generic black skirt.

I thought about it. Then I saw the prices. The NEX items are quite nicely done, but for $20 I can pick up three or four good books which will keep me entertained for a few weeks or more. The pretty shirt will quickly lose its glamor, especially if CCP adds more pretty graphics which cause my computer grief when in CQ, even if it can run the in-space segment of the game just fine.

Cool story, bro. Stuff?
I don't understand why anyone would spend that much on useless items. If it were really cheap I could see people buying it, but at these prices? I will rightfully laugh at anyone purchasing said items.

It seems like more people are upset and canceling their accounts over this than there are people buying items with Aurum. Doesnt seem like a very smart business decision on CCPs part. Why not just charge like 5 bucks (which honestly is still pretty high for a complete vanity item)? I think most people could accept that. I had no plans to buy Aurum items either way, but I dont feel this bodes well for the future of the game.
Im in Sinq Laison, the region Dodixie is in. As of right now, theres only 2 Aurum items on the market total.

confirming i will buy f*ckall items with aurum, f*ckall items with isk and f*ckall items with any other currency.
also confirming that my attempt to bypass the profanity filter will surely be recognized by a CCP employee, who should work on making the game better instead of making it worse.

I might, once Incarna is released and if they release a micro-transaction store that has that "meh, it's only ε money" kind of draw that makes it so good for the seller. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Most folk aren't complaining or canceling their accounts over the overpriced vanity clothing. They're complaining about the various bugs in the patch that should have been fixed prior to release; the massive performance hit the vast majority of the player base experiences when using CQ; the inability to multibox while CQ is on on any reasonable machine; and the huge disconnect this represents between the player base and CCP.

I've no interest in it whatsoever.
I play EVE cos I enjoy it's core values. Ships, occasional PVP, science and industry...etc
Besides which. I'm overweight and fast approaching middle age. Why on earth would I want an avatar with a tight ass and chiselled chin. Now if I could give my avatar a beer belly, receding hairline and a T-shirt with last nights dinner on it I might have some interest.

For the cost of an in-game article of clothing, I can go out and buy real clothes.

I likely will buy wearable items at some point.. I'm just not in much of a hurry to do so until there is a wider selection to choose from.
Though seeing as I could buy another Vindicator for the same amount as a few articles of clothing, I may also hold off on purchases long enough to see if they will reduce the price.

And only one suit available yet. WTH can you please prepare more before release it thank you

Comparison - World of Warcraft and Aion
As you may or may not know, both of these games offer vanity pets or clothes (other games do too, microtransactions are becoming a widespread business model). Most items range between $10 to $40 USD, dependent upon their 'cool' effect. For example, a mount in WoW is more expensive than a pet given that mounts are larger and more visually impressive. Sets of clothing are more expensive for the same reason. Pets scale in price based on their look, but also what they do or their rarity - a pet that only rolls over will sell less than one that does back-flips, rolls over, and begs. This is all standard knowledge.
So why does CCP's store epicly fail? The prices aren't incredibly unreasonably (they are high though) - except that EVE is not an RPG of persons, but ships. Your Hyperion doesn't wear a monocle. For a game that has you spend 99% of your time in a ship, these items are fairly useless. Add on to the fact that, because public space doesn't exist yet, they serve no purpose for 'showing off' since we currently can't view a full body of someone else.
The Question - Even with the advent of public space in stations, will these items still be worthwhile purchases? I don't think so at these prices. CCP will need to reduce them to half OF NORMAL GAME MARKETS because the items are only relevant in a small portion of the game. People will not spend long hours in stations because the majority of EVE is in space (and will remain so I hope). Now if a vanity item for your ship is available (Paint Jobs, a Clown Drone that sprays water, w/e) then the prices can be higher as the item is usable in more parts of the game.
Character Items that will only be viewable in stations need to be substantially cheaper because they are relevant to a small portion of the game. Vanity items that are usable outside a station (such as paintjobs, 'ship pets', or a disco ball everytime you're podded) could have normal prices because they are accessible in more portions of the game.
