That should be enough to move a single sim in a 12M3 room on a 13,3inches screen, apparently not without full fan cpu and gpu speed and huge temperatures...[/quote
Well, my laptop is less than that and I disabled CQ on it since I knew it couldn't hack it. I don't want to think about when CCP makes optional... not so optional as my lappy won't make the grade.
What settings are you running for CQ? I guess... laptops are confined little things. Heat for them is always a larger issue than for a desktop (assuming proper airflow/cooling). Still, I'm rather surprised your rig is having issues since it's far and above what my lappy is.

The problem all ATI users have is that the hair/clothing physics is performed on the cpu. On a (fairly modern) NVidia card the hair/clothing physics is done on the gfx card. I can see the difference quite clearly when comparing two machines here. I disabled the hair/clothing physics option on the ATI-based machine and its a lot happier with life now. Edit - the ATI machine is a laptop much like yours except has dual HD5870 cards.
Of course I disabled CQ anyway so makes no odds to me one way or another (until I get forced to load CQ).....

Now imagine walking into a puclic space populated with a hundred or more sims, all wanting to be fully rendered......
Have they even thought about testing this?

ok since mine is water cooled dust an't a problem .. but like i keep saying .. why has the power draw gone up so much ??
check your 12v rail and tell me it don't drop ? mines dropping .3v which is quiet a lot really ..means theres a huge draw on power from such a little enviroment it's only a room ....really should not do this ..
