Edited by: Katrina Oniseki on 22/06/2011 11:14:28 Edited by: Katrina Oniseki on 22/06/2011 11:14:04 Hey CCP, if you're reading this!
I noticed that the thrusters on the Maller shown in the login screen look remarkably different, and GOOD! I also notice that the thruster effects on the Maller within the game are the same as any other ship though.
It's mentioned in the patch notes, and seen ingame, that there is new engine cone glow on the Scorpion and new Maller models. This glow is also visible with the login screen's Maller, though much more noticable thanks to the different graphical effect. Both of these ships presumably use the brand new texturing system mentioned in this devblog a while back: http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=732
My assumption is that you will be implementing an overhaul of the engine effects for each ship as you upgrade the models and textures (as you have for the Scorpion and Maller). Since only two ship models carry the new texture system, only those two support engine cone glow. So my guess is that you'll add glow and new graphical thruster effects after you've finished overhauling the ships?
Is any of this accurate? Do you have any more information you can give us?

I would think that with all the work done so far in Carbon, that engine effects should not be as difficult to change as it would have been in the past?
Theoretically speaking, it is not very different from a turret now. A turret has proper textures and quite nice use of shaders. Maybe making a thruster module out of a turret could work?
Who knows though, i struggle with HTML :S

Do you mean slapping on some sort of modular engine block over the old ones? I hope not.
Considering that CCP has already expressed an interest in redoing the texture system, and they've redone two ships already (as well as seem to have a new style of design for new and recent ships), I think they'll just redo them all..
That way, there's no need to add engine modules or whatnot. Everything looks polished and -good-, not like it was literally jury-rigged in Blender.

You can equip your ship now with awesome engine trails (tm) for the small fee of 47.500 AUR.
This feature is pure vanity and absolutely non gameplay related.
So, buy now and save up to 15% on your next NEX purchase! |

Hello Katrina Oniseki,
Sorry for the late reply but yes, this is essentially correct. All ships need to be upgraded to new shaders, and they'll get the new engine effects at that time (as far as I know, at least).

Like the new effects, although I'd love to see new textures on older minmatar designs first, especially all 3 battleship hulls. :)

I can see the future now. NEX Exchange: Only 3550AUR to upgrade every ship you see to the newer thruster effects!

How ironic.
I didn't want to keep bumping my thread because I figured I would get trolled for it. So instead, a troll finds my thread and bumps it for me with a jab at CCP, which ends up getting CCP's attention and giving me my answer!
Thanks, trolly trolls! I <3 U.

At current pace (one ship per expansion) more like 2094 and that's assuming no NEW ships in that time frame... sadly, a rather safe assumption lately.

I seem to recall seeing something mentioning the Create a Starship contest winner (the Tornado) being released sometime later this year. And from similar threads I also saw that Thrustmaster's team should be making good progress enough to finish at least reskinning of ships sometime next year. ---- "Sounds like a bad case of pikal envy, if you ask me."
