Every time i see devs fail because of greediness, its always a good thing TBH. I was glad when warhammer failed, im glad to see rift fail, and im not glad yet but ill probably be down the line if eve fails because they let beancounters take over the roadmap for the game. Its a wake up call. You cant have your cake and eat it. Either you get smart gamers slowly into eve, or you go for mass appeal and you get... this. The more companies fail trying to emulate WoW/blizzard because they are greedy, the more chances one indie company (you know like early eve) standing above the fray with quality gameplay.

PLEX aren't new. The new currency is called Aurum. Basically, in addition to using PLEX to extend game time, you can now convert PLEX to Aurum, which is then used to buy these vanity items. People are butthurt because the vanity items are expensive right now, but CCP has stated that they are trying to ease in the new Aurum market in order to make sure that the entire in-game economy doesn't suffer adverse effects. If they charged too little for the vanity items right out of the gate, there would likely be a buying frenzy on PLEX as people try to take advantage of the new Aurum market, which would skyrocket PLEX prices and basically screw over anybody who relies on PLEX to extend their game time. Suddenly realizing you have to pay a couple hundred million ISK more than you're used to in order to play for another month could result in a lot of people leaving the game. They'll probably reduce the prices of the vanity items to something more reasonable once the market settles and they're sure they haven't utterly destroyed the in-game economy. Granted, the NEX and Aurum are pretty useless at this point... The prices are silly, and the items are genuinely pointless. But that doesn't mean it's the end of EVE. Either useful items will show up on NEX for reasonable prices, or people just won't use it. Either way, the game continues.

I have been assuming this is CCP's plan for the prices of Aurum stuff. However, when the prices start to drop, I am looking forward to the rage from people who spent so much to get a monocle now :)

The only goal of this patch was an additional revenue stream for CCP. Incarna is a massive kick in the balls to the players.

You aren't offended in the least by someone charging you that amount of monies for something trivial? What if you went to your local, i don't know, Burger King or whatever and found out a ketchup packet costs you $68? The point isn't that people don't have the money- sure, I could buy one with ISK right now. Hell, I could go and buy one with aurum (but honestly, I'd rather eat steak and caviar, if you catch my drift)- but these prices are insultingly high. And the excuse that its high as to not crash the plex market? What the ** do you think will happen if it ever comes down to a reasonable level?

This is as asinine as CCP wanting to charge 99$ for a "license" for all third party developers (wait for commercial licenses only you say? Re-read their definition of commercial- notice it covers EVERYTHING from accepting donations to having ads- its like charging not-for-profit organizations.). The thing is, demand is a curve, if CCP lowers the price slowly over time, yes, more and more people will be willing to spend the money ($ or ISK) on vanity stuff, but if done over time, the market volume for PLEX will naturally adjust itself so the price doesn't spike. Price only spikes when the demand goes way up, but market volume (supply) stays the same, basic market principle, traders know this. This is by and large, the most logical explanation for the ridiculous prices, and if it IS the reason CCP did what they did, I'll actually applaud them for thinking outside the obvious and NOT going for the instant cash grab. --------------------------------- It's all in your head. No..it's the fact that they ignore sooo many player requests and just fix stuff "to bring in new players" while we have to deal with the broken game. What good are new turrets for hybrids when they can't hit anything? So yes it makes me lol.
