Even though I dislike micro-transactions and RMT in general, I understand the financial need for CCP to go through with it. But it seems that CCP has absolutely no clue about what makes MICRO-transactions work, nor how to maximize profits with it. I doubt they ever did proper market research, just eyeballing the price.
CCP seems to think that enough people will pay insane prices if they are just hyped enough, and that this rsults in good profits. How much smarter would it have have been to start off with very cheap vanity items instead? Players should be made comfortable with spending Aurum so they will have less reservations against buying more expensive things later on.
But Devs like Zinfandel not only illustrate the worrying U-turn that marketing has steered CCP in with the content-starved eye-candy GPU-Incarnage but they appear to be grossly incompetent at their jobs as well in their understanding of the EVE-community.
So I suggest a poll. Please keep your answers short, constructive and don't use it to voice your disappointment with Incarna in general. There are plenty of other threads for that.
#1: How much Aurum would you be willing to pay for an small vanity-ornament like space-monocle? ('0' if you'll never buy it) #2: How much money have you spent so far in other games with microtransactions for items or services?
No degree in marketing or economics here, but I figure if enough people to answer this poll, we'll get something to slap the Devs with once they stop under their rock for the forum-inferno. Zinfandel wil undoubtedly try to explain how he considers charging +50 euro for a monocle, catering for a few dozen players at most, a sound business decision.
I'll kick it off:
#1: 2 euro #2: around 25 euro

Most expensive stuff on the market should be 1 plex.
All the rest should be between 100-3400 aurum, with wide ranges and choices. ------------------------------------------------- A friend of death, a brother of luck and a son of a *****

1. 1 dollars if they are indestructable 2. 0 dollars so far, I don't play F2P games. But yeah I actually made a server transfer in AoC so if that counts I think something about 20 dollars.

1. 5-15$ (small accessories in the < 5$ range, usual stuff 5-10$ range, stuff with exceptional design & features in the 10-15$ range)
2. ~70Ç on LoL (over a period of about one year)

Edited by: Mahakali on 22/06/2011 14:45:01 I think I¦d spend $2.50 for the most expensive vanity item with most clothes and accesoires going from $0.10 to $0.50
For $40-60 a month I expect CCP to host my own EVE-Server with 20-100 player slots. Could be quite handy for corp training.
/edit; I think I have spent 30-40 dollars in LotRO

To me it's pretty game-breaking to have an ISK/AUR exchange that makes a tshirt the price of a star ship.
You know what, how about just f**k off the exchange so that people don't have to compare plex/isk prices to AUR and just make it so people can buy a f**king monocle with $$$.
What a load of **** all this MT is turning into. Its a ****ing shame that one of the most anticipated releases for EVE in years and years is a rail road to blatant $$$.

Edited by: MotherMoon on 22/06/2011 14:54:03 Right, It's not about price, It's about transparency and playerfeedback. They knew what they were doing when they acted like they didn't have even an idea what the prices would be.
Pure lies. Look at my thread defending mt in eve, where I asked ccp to rum the autumn store through sisi, and that player feedback is important when dealing which such a touchy subject.
I even got a Dec reply saying nothing is more important than playerfeedback. Guess that. Was pure bs. I wonder if the devs who were on eve tv saying they like the chance to invest in a game with extra money knew the cost secretly.
Oddly with these prices no one would of cared if they sold the battleship for 90 bucks

#1 200 aurum or 2-3 bucks #2 200-250 USD over past few years between wife and I.
I bought PLEX ahead of time for release, but had no idea CCP's pricing scheme would be #*@^ing INSANE. No way am I going to spend as much for one vanity item as I've probably spent over the past year and a half.
Seriously, knock off two zero's from the price of everything. Thats just to begin with. And add more selection, because there really isnt much of a selection.
There will be plenty of folks who will probably dish it out for that stupid monacle, but the markets gonna dry up super quick at those prices.
I might just cancel my sub and use up the PLEX instead.

1. maybe 10$ for premium items, possibly a plex or 20$ for a full outfit if it's something exotic such as a 'tron' suit or other show/videogame costumes.
2. I have spent more than 1000$ on DLC, and hundreds of dollars on microtransactions for various games.
note: $=USD

I'd be fine with (USD) $3 for the realy small stuff, $5 for the average apperal, $10 for some cool stuff and $15 for stuff that get you laid...ok maybe 20...haha.
I'll blow $150 a month on games , DLC and so on.. Sounds like alot but I dont go out to eat, or go to movies, I love my job, work out and play video games, ride mountain bikes, snowmobiles and jetskis.
Serious tho, Im ok with blowing 20 more a month on the game aslong as the items I am buying dont cost more then a T3 cruiser..

1) Not more than the cost of an executioner. A piece of clothing shouldn't cost more than even a frigate. 2) $0 I don't play games with MT, and if eve had them when I started, I wouldn't have subscribed.

I think a fair range would be 500AUR at the low end and 3,500AUR at the high end with a lot of variety and choice in-between.
1. Monocle? hmm...maybe 600-700AUR
2. $10 ~Gnosis~ |

1) Clothes need to be cheap so people can buy whole wardrobes instead of sweating off on what single item to buy once per 5 years or something. Somewhere around 0,50 euros to 1,00 euros for normal stuff. If you have "limited availability" sale at some point that can cost bit more.
2) I`ve spend about 10 euros in World of Tanks just to support the developers because it is a pretty fun little game. For EVE not going to spend a dime until prices go down and social interaction is added.

Nothing should cost over 1 plex to buy, and most things should be alot lower.
I myself would not spend a single penny on anything like this, however, that's a RL penny, I could well be tempted to buy a plex someone else bought, with my ingame isk and use it that way, let some other sucker pay for it with RL while I pay with pretend money :)

Zinfandel is the most worthless waste of space the universe has seen in decades. This guy is so wrapped up his get-rich-quick scheme that he is completely oblivious to the fact that he is just a clueless phallus on legs.
Zinfandel, if you're reading this, you're a disgrace and an insult to the entire concept of "hobby". You are literally the cancer that is killing our treasured pastime, and I sincerely hope they fire you posthaste.
love,
Heli

Awesome get rich quick scheme.
Price exclusive vanity items out of reach of the common plebs so they sell quicker and generate more profit. They're laughing all the way to the bank.
rabblerabble CCP is killing eve by introducing MT.
rabblerabble I cant afford to buy the items, theyre killing eve.

CCP def made some critical errors on this cash store launch, effectively shooting themselves in the foot on day one. Classic. The game is either in decline or their target audience is doing a drastic shift.

1. I'm already paying a subscription, so I'm not willing to spend any more real world money on vanity items. But I would say I get pretty good value for my montly subscription.
I would maybe spend 100,000 - 300,000 ISK per vanity item. If my choice is spaceship vs clothes, I'm always going to pick spaceship.
2. As for other games, I've paid about $25 towards a F2P game (of which I've only used about $4 worth so far). But see... that game is F2P. I don't pay a subscription. I like the game and have gotten quite a bit enjoyment out of it so far, so I figured I'd reward them for giving me so much enjoyment. That $25 will probably last me 6 months in that game.
So while I consider myself getting pretty good value for my money in EVE. I think I'm probably getting much better value from the other game.

If all people are quibbling about is price then the Noble Exchange is destined to succeed - it proves the demand exists, all that remains is finding the right level to min/max the overall rate of player spending.

1) 400-500 aurum for a standard clothing item sounds fair to me. Very exclusive items approaching 3500 aurum. Nothing should cost more than 1 plex.
2) At least $50 on Guild Wars for additional character slots, bonus weapon backs. $10 on Aion for the collectors edition digital upgrade. Maybe $10 for vanity items in Vindictus.
Vanity items in Eve MUST BE DESTROYED when the wearer is podded.

Edited by: Mutnin on 22/06/2011 17:26:54 CCP obviously does not have very good judgment on what the player base wants or expects. One could say that they have a severe disconnect with the people actually playing the game.
Had they used even half a brain, they would have broken the micro transactions in with very cheap items that just about anyone could afford. Instead they did just what most of us expected and went straight for the money grab which has obviously blown up in their face. (big surprise)
